It would be like putting a stick in your fan?
What the...???
lol.
Actually, I agree with you, but I just found your analogy to be humorous, yet true.
Hey your home! Good to see you (online) lol
Yeah, I sort of borrowed that from my sister, she would always say that.
Personally, I don't have a problem with consulting commentaries and the like AS A SECONDARY SOURCE. I mean, none of us are ever going to get the full revelation of God and/or His Word all by ourselves on this side of eternity, so we can certainly "glean" from each other, but every "joint and band" in the body of Christ is supposed to be receiving something DIRECTLY FROM THE HEAD OF THE BODY, JESUS CHRIST, HIMSELF:
"And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God." (Colossians 2:19)
Again, every "joint and band" in the body of Christ ought to be receiving something directly "FROM THE HEAD" or from Christ in that He is where our "nourishment" originally or ultimately comes from. Of course, we're all to share said "nourishment" with each other that the entire body might be "knit together and increase with THE INCREASE OF GOD", but, again, it's "the increase OF GOD".
Anyhow, I'd personally advise anyone/everyone to shy away from commentaries, study Bibles and the like AS A PRIMARY SOURCE or else you're going to be in danger of becoming a disciple of the writer of the commentary, study Bible, etc. and his/her beliefs as opposed to becoming a disciple of Christ...and I've watched in horror as I've seen exactly what I just described happen time and time and time again over the years. Quite frankly, I think that anybody who takes it upon themselves to write or to record such things in which everything in the Bible is explained has a serious problem with PRIDE. Again, none of us has the full revelation of either God or His Word.
Yeah, but you know as children you can be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine and cant discern your right from your left for a time, and thats just the nature of being children (which we are to be no more) but when I first started out being really hungry I had a period of time where I would tune into everything, eat, drink and everything else (of God) or so I thought. But somewheres in there (most especially in the beginning) turning to too many men (all putting their own spins on the word) began to make my own head spin.
So I felt the need to shut out their voices and find His (I began to lose His) and their voices were not speaking the same.
Then, I had a book burning party (and all was good again).
In the last few years I have been opened to commentaries, there are places I get stuck and I have need of the body (I agree) I look for another part of the body that is stronger then me in something, and get my benefit through Christ.
So commentaries yeah because we will all get stuck here or there and I appreciate a multitude of counselors in things I dont get but can weigh out their wisdom between them (but only when I am stuck, not to lean on them)
I just dont understand the importance of these plans because I dont really read anything outside the scriptures (except cookbooks for the most part).
I did purchase one book another poster I enjoyed reading had reccomended a couple of years ago, but I havent even cracked it open yet. I just wont read it (I dont even feel led to).
I did have a short period of time of reading books over 20 years ago but I havent since that time.
I know you are okay with it but I just never was with exception of that time, thats just me though, I cant see how its hindered me though.
I read you on the forums as you know, I try to keep it at whoever the Lord brings into my life at any given time.
God bless you
