Thousands of people speak in tongues.

I can speak in tongues.

You (Roger) can also speak in tongues.

But because you don't, you think that for anyone that does, it is not of God?

Would God want thousands/millions even of His people to 'speak in tongues' and think that it's a gift from the spirit if it wasn't?

You think that 1 Corinthians 14:4 says, "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.”

Is talking of a different earthly language?

1 Cor 13:8 doesn't mean of speaking in tongues has ceased.

It means that all things will pass away, (gifts) but love will always endure.

I speak in English all the time but most of your charismatic and Pentecostal friends are not talking of languages of this world.

No it means that supernatural tongues will end. As will extra biblical prophecy and knowledge. Meaning no new revelation from God.

The OP asked, "Can You Speak in Tongues?" A simple "yes" or "no" would have sufficed.

Roger, you have consistently provided sarcasim for proof of your belief that tongues are no longer operative and if that was not insulting enough, you also told us that you believed that it was evil spirits speaking through those who speak in tongues.

You have also ignored or twisted all scripture provided to help you understand that this gift we receive through the Holy Spirit by God's grace to enable us to live for Him, is VERY much alive in those who desire to be filled and not just lightly dipped.

So, you know, if you can't take even so slight a remark as the one I made, then perhaps you might check your own biting comments at the door.

People have been generous and kind in their support of your constant denial and snide comments.

Really, you have nothing to complain about.

Absolutely not. People are continuing to speak in tongues...I myself have experienced the interpretation of my tongues both at home and in church. Further, as a worship leader in church, I have received, in english, a word for the congregation more than once and have had the witness from the Pastor and others that the word is spot on as it is for either a situation not commonly known or for the building up of the body.

I have witnessed quite a bit of use of this gift. The Holy Spirit in me is Holy...not some evil device as ignorant people who are close to blaspheming try to indicate because they suffer from unbelief and may also be too proud to admit they are wrong.

Anyone reading the following from I Cor. 14, can see that my use of the gift has been in accordance with how Paul describes the correct useage of tongues.

I Cor. 14

1Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2For anyone who speaks in a tongue[SUP]a[/SUP]does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,[SUP]b[/SUP] but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues,[SUP]c[/SUP] unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.6Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction? 7Even in the case of lifeless things that make sounds, such as the pipe or harp, how will anyone know what tune is being played unless there is a distinction in the notes? 8Again, if the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for battle? 9So it is with you. Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air. 10Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. 11If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me. 12So it is with you. Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church.13For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say. 14For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 16Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now put in the position of an inquirer,[SUP]d[/SUP] say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying? 17You are giving thanks well enough, but no one else is edified.

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel that satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

So tongues must be real because you do it. Got it and you are unable to be deceived.

To speak to God you must first know God. God heareth not sinners but if any man be a worshipper of God and doeth His will him He heareth, John 9:31 Jesus never told us to speak to God in any language other than our own native tongue. Aparently your understanding of what Paul was saying is different from what Paul was saying. Just saying.

I'm talking about speaking in tongues. Not a language that can be translated with Google translate tool!
God heareth not sinners
So what are you saying then? That we are sinners by claiming to speak in tongues?
2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel that satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Right, so Satan came into a Holy home of God fearing Christians where only earlier that same day we was singing songs, worshiping and praising God following by tongues and interpretation. And deceived us by giving me the gift of tongues?

You can keep your "opinion" Roger. One day we shall find out the truth. Even though it really isn't hard to decipher. I and many others will continue to speak in tongues to God. Because we know in our hearts heart that it is from God and for God.

If it is not, I pray God, please reveal it unto me and the many thousands even millions of people that do and will speak in tongues, that it is not a gift.

Some people have a real genuine walk with God. They know how to listen for His voice. Some of those people also speak in tongues on a daily basis.

Would not God reveal this "trick of Satan" that you seem to think it is, (if that is what it is) to such of His people?

Would God not do that to His people if they were all walking around talking gobbledygook?

How come God has not done that Roger?

For the cause of Roger.

Nah Roger....you don't 'got it' at all

Just more of your sarcastic self indulgence

We are definitely getting your message though.

The way I understand it, with the posts you have generously supplied to each person who has attested to the validity and truth of scripture, is:

1. Roger doesn't care to acknowledge the scriptures that are posted

2. Roger says everyone who does not agree with him is wrong

3. Roger is right all the time when he says everyone or someone or anyone is wrong

4. people who speak in tongues serve the devil

5. the Holy Spirit lies to believers by convincing them they are following God when they have been deceived by an angel of light

6. Roger has no experience in this subject, so he has chosen the belief of cessationists

6. Roger keeps doggedly responding according to what he believes because he believes he is right and that makes those who disagree wrong

7. Start at one and read through until you understand that Roger is never wrong according to Roger

ember,
You forgot his other opinions:

8. Roger has such great understanding, that the apostle Paul's was childish by comparison.

9. Roger 'knows fully', but apparently other believers don't.

Lets not got lost in translation. ;)

God thanks and God bless for Roger, like all of us, he is a believer and is saved and made righteous through his faith too. He deserves our love and compassion just as much as anyone else, in arrogance or doubt, as Christ like Christians.

There are some scriptures in the bible that can have a different meaning for a lot of people but at the end of the day it is God that has the last say.

Everyone is on a different walk with God. And in life there are many mysteries to us which we are not 100% privy to but we believe that He will make it all known to us one day, even as we are known now.

So until we get there, we should always strive to put God first in all things and even though we may disagree we must learn to sometimes agree to disagree, leave it with God and trust in Him and move on.

Lord I pray, please reveal to us the truth and real meaning of your word. Make it known to us that we may learn to live right and perfect lives pleasing in your eyes and free from living incorrectly in case of incorrect beliefs or interpretations. Please reveal to Roger the beauty and simplicity of speaking in tongues in your name, out of our love for you. But only if it be your will our Father.

Can I get an amen!?

And as number 10. Biblical testimonies given here of speaking of tongues nowadays even in earthly languages without the believer having learned the language, where it led hearers to convert and accept Christ, or when they were praises of God, were completely IGNORED by Roger, because that is also "of the devil". Sorry but praise and coming to Christ cannot be of the devil... as Jesus said judge the tree by its fruit.

Yes. Cessationists do seem to suffer from a surfeit of knowledge unlike the rest of us who only know in part
