Excuses.
The commonwealth is no doubt a NT teaching...and is a practice which produces more fruitfulness, and spreads the example of pure religion to more.

James 1:26-27Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

26*If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. 27*Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Visiting is not common wealth.

Luke 20:47 Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

That looks like common wealth there no?

That is ridiculous! In Hebrew, to make any noun first person singular possessive simply change the pointing of the last consonant to a hireq and add a yod.

Civil government, Jon, nothing to do with being a Christian or how a Christian should live.

That refers to using the law to rob widows, as in tying up corban by a vow to use it for something else,
setting the law of vows against the law of corban.

Yes, it was a type of robbery.

Going after the houses of widows, like helping themselves to something not theirs through that deception.

Cant someone do the same type of thing today through similar deceptive means

Like call it "common wealth", but in reality its like robbing others (especially the weaker/ widows) through manipulation

Common wealth is public welfare.

So how could you deny it to the public (rob widows)?

I do not even need air to live...much less food and water. The church rejoices in reward in heaven.
Yeah, I'm with DC on this one.

The inability to discern you need AIR pretty much invalidates your ability to discern anything else.

But we're still glad you're in a Christian shelter and you're alright.
We want you to be ok.

By taking from the widows and fatherless, in that way is what I mean.

Instead of a ministration to widows and fatherless (the weaker) taking from the same to distribute to others, in that way.

You dont feel they can be robbed in that manner?

Elin, do you know I was making a play on words here and am in agreement with you.

I was making a play off the words "common" wealth as in the widows houses (being devoured) by covetous men become sorta like their own property.

Since certain folks have been eyeballing peoples stuff it seems trying to get them to part with it for quite awhile.

Making widows a prey and robbing the fatherless, sorta like this

Isaiah 10:2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

Re: All Things Common Ignored by "your church"? Better keep looking for His then.

You know, I have wondered something myself, and only because I am disabled, was both born with scoliosis in my back but I was also injured in my youth along with other degenerate back/disk/nerve issues (which quite a few here seem to have as well.) I dont have a church to go to myself, if I did when I first moved down here I have wondered if the believers at whichever one I was able to connect with would ever visit me, I cant say though. Like, would these come out (to me) and do it freely without some ulterior motive?
Would they just want my stuff?
And after I gave them all my stuff would they take me into their home?
I highly doubt that for some reason.
Well, you know what I mean, the lame or disabled in Jesus days were fetched and brought near to him by those who actually had faith (carried in and lowered through roofs and all) and His apostles had power.
Nowadays a five minute trip in an air conditioned car might be asking too much, but I dont know.
There will always be those who volunteer to do for others and there will always be those who try to manipulate their stuff from others, like devouring widows houses and preying upon others by always eyeballing peoples possessions.
Which can come off as rather Judas- like but under the pretense of
John 12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
John 12:6
This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.

the number of individuals who will treat you (anyone) right is few.

the number of groups is even less.

All things in common ey? I don't know if this understanding is correct but so far I see that as if you see a brother in need of something and you have it, don't withhold it from them as if you claim it to be your own/yours. But to esteem your brother higher than yourself. In Acts, they gave away excesses, they didn't all sell their homes and all lived together in one big building.
If a brother or anyone is in need your home can be as much as theirs, within reason of course.

Visiting is not common wealth.
So...when visiting the fatherless and widows...do you visit with a blessing or curse? Do you love them enough to share an equal quality of life as them? Maybe you just give them enough for that day or something? Most I think just throw money at an unbiblically practicing organization...and let them get their hands dirty.

Please explain? Within reason I mean in extreme circumstances like if my wife and children were in danger by someone staying my home, they would asked to leave and if they wont, then they would be forced. Does that sound reasonable to you?

Re: All Things Common Ignored by "your church"? Better keep looking for His then.

What would happen if we truly loved our neighbor as ourself? Lets say one person has a million dollars. They equalize with another...who equalizes with another. Now the same neighbor needs to be equalized with again...because the one who had a million is now still holding onto something they both do not need...and which causes them to be in a position of excess...and all the while there are still children dying from lack of clean fresh eater...which is sooooo easy to provide for them.

To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction is to either provide comfort and ease such affliction...or endure with them. If we fast from watrr for even 2 and a half days...we will understand better what torture it is to go without water. Some water is sooo bad that it causes children to be sick...which is even harder to think about and will help us to do more because He first loved us and went through worse torture than that.

A more merciful way is to do what Paul did...and so we do not have to fear such things.

Acts 13:10-12Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

10*and said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? 11*And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. 12*Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
