Satan has long been after stopping tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance and has succeeded in many churches. When Paul speaks about praying in the Spirit. he is talking about tongues. Paul says that I will pray in the Spirit and I will pray with my understanding. It is called the Baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues

I am not asking about total "printed word of God" we have today - I am talking about 1 Corinthians written to the Corinthian church and to the faithful in Christ. Aren't these epistles we read in our printed copies the same letters hand written by Paul to the Corinthian church? What makes them printed in my bible any more "perfect (complete) than when the Corinthian church were originally given them?

This is a serious question for I am trying to figure out and determine the differences in the meaning of perfect here. I know what I believe it is - I know what you believe it is - I'm just wondering what makes our printed text of 1 Corinthians more "perfect" (complete) than the original letters?

There is no difference as the scriptures they had back then before the bible was put together is the same as we have now. They did not sit back and wait tell every letter they needed was written and then put the bible together, as though writings existed for years before the bible was put together and completed.
There is absolutely nothing in the Word of God to suggest the bible canon we have is what is spoken of as that which is perfect/complete comes. The only time perfectness or completeness comes according to the bible is when the final prophecies are fulfilled of the New Heaven and New Earth comes with the New Jerusalem here. Then and only then will things be perfect without death, sin, hatred, evil, and all prophecies fulfilled...........

Pure fantasy. We suffer and we get sick and we die because of sin. This will be the case until Christ is on the earth and ruling from Jerusalem.

Tongues are widely seen in paganism and in demon possession through exorcism.

Paul was told his physical impairment was for Gods glory and healing was not forthcoming. You apparently have no knowledge of the suffering ministry that many share.

I could go on but I believe you are emotionally tied to the doctrinal error of modern tongues.

Paul physical thorn was a messenger from Satan to keep him from getting a big head.

[SUP]7 [/SUP]And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

it was not an illness, it was most likely his physical appearance.

What then makes your belief special and noteworthy? No one has said that not speaking in tongues makes one bad. Scripture has said tongues will cease. There is no injunctions in scripture to pray in tongues. Jesus never prayed in tongues.

I believe your belief is contradictory of scripture.

The fields are indeed white unto harvest but the laborers are few. Labor while it is yet day.

where does it say it will cease, scripture please.

At first they did have only the OT scriptures when the first original Apostles were sent out to spread the gospel, but those original Apostles wrote the letters/epistles/gospels that we have today as our bible. So they had to of wrote them and personally gave those words before the actual bible was put together.

They lived the NT scriptures, and Paul's epistles were written directly to the believers he mentioned in them. Therefore those epistles existed before the bible was put together. So my stance still holds true that all the scriptures existed before they were put together as the Old and New Testaments that we have today.

They were part of a number of writings the council went over and decided on what to have in the bible and what not to have. We accept them now as they are because Holy Spirit lead men put them together to form the bible we now have.

Very Good and that council was the Catholic Church or the Roman State Church as revelations was not written until about 80 A.D or some where in there and there many documents that were thrown out because they could not be authenticated or the Holy Spirit didn't want them in the bible . But what has this to do with speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.

Because I was responding to the debate where some believe that that which is perfect/complete comes in 1 Corinthians 13:10 is the bible canon we have now. There is absolutely nothing in that scripture, nor anywhere in the bible to suggest this as the whole context of that chapter is love.

Is complete total love in this world now, or is evil, hatred, murder, persecution, and so on still very much apart of this world. That time when perfect love comes into the world and all is fulfilled is when the New Jerusalem comes down on the New Earth after it and the New Heaven is formed.

Who is this directed to because I know Paul was not at Pentecost, because he was still a Pharisee by the name of Saul who was one of many responsible for the death of Stephen as well as persecution and killing of other Christians...

No prob with you Kenneth. But Gods word is perfect. My word shall not return unto Me void. Anyways as to those who say tongues are demonic. Then why is that only God fearing people speak in tongues, Sinners don't speak in tongues.

No problem as I was just asking....

Yes God's word is perfect but it is not what was being referred to by 1 Corinthians 13:10, else those who claim tongues have ceased would be correct by that. But they have not ceased yet, nor are the demonic. They are widely misused in the church today, but true tongues do still exist so does prophecy. No gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased yet as there are still many things to come to pass, and the Holy Spirit promised the gifts to those then and for those of times to come. We are still in those times to come until the Lord comes back to finally fulfill all things.

Jesus is perfect and He come to the earth than teach a perfect teaching to his follower include the apostles.

After the perfect coming and teaching, still the gift of speak in tongue happen.

When we perfect/in heaven than the gift of healing, stop, because we don't need it anymore.

Speak in tongue also mean speak the language that we don't know.

When we perfect in heaven we know every language, then the gift of tongue stop.

It doesn't mean there isn't counterfeit

Money is real and valuables, and because it value, some people fudge it. why fudge worthless thingy.

The gift of the Lord is valuables, that why devil fudge it.

Yes you have for sure and the key to understanding how to translate the word complete is found in Paul's statement about being a child, speaking as a child and then putting away childish things when he became a man.....
Everything about the manifestation of the Spirit was written in 1 Corinthians, what they are for, if they are not done in love, and how to use them in the church - this the Corinthians knew and I don't think anything new was added when put into the bible as a whole - so they knew what we know.

I still haven't put away childish things in my physical life - I still play games, I still ride my bike, and probably will until I am too old [LOL] and physically can't or until I die [end - telos where we get the word perfect from]. :) And I am far from being fully mature in my total understanding of the word of God - still learning every day.

Thanks DC - I just wanted to see the understanding behind how scripture is that which is perfect is come.

Yes! I speak in a given language that I didn't learn.

I am to old, tired, and sick to debate it, please excuse me.
And you're not going to convince the deniers anyway. God bless you.

There is just one thing that I would like to ask . . . Paul's epistles to the Corinthian church were letters . . . not in print by a print setter but they were letters written by Paul's own hand . . . so Paul was telling them that when his letters were written in "type" and set in a book - becoming "perfect" - then they would do away with the manifestation of prophecy, tongues, and knowledge?

Just trying to get a hand on the understanding that "perfect" is scripture when they had the original letters . . .
Paul probably had no idea as he was writing that his letters would one day be compiled into a book.

No? What you mean, no, Christians are still speaking in tongues today, its a gift thats still given. They may not speak in tongues in your church, but that dont mean it doesn't in other churches. So just because you may not heard it spoken, it dont mean its not spoken still.

What are you talking about? Christ did not promise us a perfect world. Christ promised us tribulation in the world for His names sake.

Jesus said from the cross that "it is finished". His work is finished salvation is wrought the Holy Spirit is given to those who believe and receive the word of God.

Joel's prophecy says that at the coming of the Lord we will see a revival of the gifts of tongues and prophecy in Israel.

For the cause of Christ

Ok Rog, go back to the beginning. When Adam fell and took creation with him, God promised to send a redeemer to set things back to the way they were before the fall. In other words, God promised Adam that one day the world would be restored to it's perfect garden state.

God didn't promise us a perfect book, He promised us His perfect garden restored.

Do we live in that garden presently? No. So has His garden been restored to perfection? No. When will that happen? When Christ returns.

You go ahead and cling to the book as the perfect end all be all. I'll stick with clinging to the faith that God, thru Jesus, will redeem this fallen world and once again make it perfect. As He promised.

1 Corinthians 14:2
For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 14:19

Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

1 Corinthians 14:13

Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret.
