I think josh 7 is during the conquest of canaan... so, conquest, which is different, imo...

anything about the time in sinai? maybe there is... they would be on a defensive footing, there...
In Ex 17 Joshua was told to make a selection from among the men to go out against the Amalekites. The entire army of Israel was not dispatched to the battle, only a select number. It really does not matter whether the whole army of Israel went out or not as they seem to have done at Jericho. The number of Israelite troops were irrelevant because the Lord is the one who achieved the victory, not the number of troops.

I think it's Moses that tells Josh to 'choose men'... maybe Moses isn't a very good military guy... so yes, if the israelites are getting bad advice, then even a large force could be squandered fighting some small wilderness groups... then the stories would make sense, yes...

But God saw the number of troops as relevant because He punished Israel for not sending their whole army. He saw it as arrogance on their part.

Each letter of the Hebrew alphabet has both a phonetic value and a numeric value. (Right to left)

א=1, ב=2, ג=3, ד=4, ה=5, ו=6, ז=7, ח=8, ט=9, י=10

כ=20, ל=30, מ=40, נ=50, ס=60, ע=70, פ=80, צ=90

ק=100, ר=200, ש=300, ת=400

Numbers between or larger numbers are formed by combining
True but this use of letter for numbers did not occur until late on in Biblical history. It was not in use in the time of Moses.

Actually, most of the plagues weren't exactly miraculous, except for the timing of God.
Wow! What do you base this on?

1. What about the flood in Genesis? Timing or Miraculous?

2. Birth of Isaac? Timing or Miraculous?

3. Here's one closer to the plagues: And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.

Was that timing or miraculous?

4. Was the parting of the Red Sea timing or miraculous?

5. The water from the rock, timing or miraculous?

6. Water to wine, timing or miraculous? (Timing! It was residual red water from the Nile in the days of Egypt. The Israelites saved jars and jars of it for chemical warfare. Eventually storing it in cool caverns. through years various mixings of air, dust, wind, and who knows what else . . . atom, molecules. There the red water became drinkable, and Jesus used some of it for the wine. He himself drank some and about 3 years later after He was crucified and buried in the tomb, that red water brought Him back to life.)

You are in deNIAL of the power of God and His plague upon the NILE.

it might be helpful to find out why they don't realize the miraculous nature and extraordinary events that took place......

it's (the work of GOD) is very much like a mile wide tornado completely destroying every house and building in a small town or city,
and
one or two houses remaining UNTOUCHED right in the midst of the destruction.

or 10,000 people falling of the plague within a few miles of your own house, and no one in your own house
falling sick at all. (this happens, btw, and IT IS A PROMISE OF GOD IN HIS WORD)....

to not realize the miracle of it is beyond our comprehension at this point.

Atwhatcost,

And since you are in blatant deNIAL of the power of God upon the NILE, I will henceforth read your posts with a tremendous amount, a superabundance of caution and reservation.

And here's a 7th

haven't you even read genesis and exodus yet? you've both missed GOD'S WORD entirely.

okay, yes, just reading won't do any good, any more than it did for the scribes and pharisees (pastors and priests today) who didn't love and honor yahweh and HIS WORD,

but if yahweh permits, he will grant from heaven the understanding of HIS WORD in genesis and exodus.

Jeff,

Recall I did open my post to atcost with "What do you base this on."

Fact is, the Bible constantly refers to the plagues as being miraculous.

Recall, atcost opened her post with "Actually they are not miracles or miraculous." Or similar to that.

The Bible says God caused the plagues. Calls them miracles.

atcost says No.

Bible in many, many passages refers to them as miracles.

atcost comes along and says "Actually they are not."

Allow me to continue the comparison.

Find an 80 year old weatherman, let him use Doppler radar, allow him to study all the tornados and hurricanes and earthquakes of years past, and to designate a safety zone, then put him on the bank of Mississippi River with a red laser pen. When he casts a beam and the water becomes red or overflows to a great flood and it affects all peoples except those in the safety zone, and you do this 9 times with the results of the red water or the flood, then you will have a comparison (allowing for the difference in technology).

I may be wrong but I think that what Atcost meant was that they had a natural basis to them, which is of course true. The miraculous element lay in the severity of them and the way they sometimes affected some and not others. .

In Exodus 17 they defeat the Amalekites in a decisive victory. "And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword." verse 13

If you do research on the 10 miracles YHWH did you will see that every time a plague hit Egypt one of their gods were demolished... until God destroyed their human god Pharaoh himself. His son was a deity.

The Egyptian culture believed that a god was a god until defeated in battle, so every time something happened to them one of their gods were destroyed. In my view that is a miracle and God's perfect timing and hand on a situation :)

Consider the circumstances of this event. There are most probably in the neighborhood of 3,000,000 people and the sea is at this point about 1000' in depth. What application of physics could possibly explain the parting of the Red Sea as it is described in Exodus 14?

BTW, this is not about which site is the supposed correct place of the crossing so please do not go there.
that application of physics we can't see yet... the same source that cured many people, allowed Jesus walk in the sea, made Zacharia speachless... and much others divine situations...

"Behold, God {is} great, and we know {him} not, neither can the number of his years be searched out."
Job 36:26

"Or {who} shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, {as if} it had issued out of the womb?
When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,
And brake up for it my decreed {place}, and set bars and doors, {brake...: or, established my decree upon it}
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed? {thy...: Heb. the pride of thy waves}"
Job 38:8-11

"Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. {hast...: Heb. knowest understanding}
Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;"
Job 38:4-6

the reality of 'gods' what does the NT teach us? Both Christ and Paul and those who penned the Word of God thru the paraclete, revealed that 'gods' were 'devils'. indeed... When the Veil in Christ is removed, ye will see what I talk about.

devils abide in flesh/bone and they can abide in 'animals'.. indeed! thus Pharaoh, a god, but in reality a manflesh/bone who was vexed and controlled by a devil, or devil(s) indeed! a satan like man... Pharaoh represents purdy much 'satan' , in his actions and pride and presumptuousness, he also is a good example of the coming man of sin.. he will bear the same resemblance or characteristics, but this time he will be 'masquerading ' as a servant of Christ.. indeed!

he will resemble pharoah in his false signs and wonders, with his magicians, and sorcery.

back then you had Pharaoh, and his inner circle of magicians, sorcerers, astrologers etc..

during Daniels 70th week, the man of sin will be revealed, he will have his 'main sidekick' the false prophet, plus he will have his sorcerers, in the NT sorcery is deemed pharmakus- pharmacy, during daniels 70th week, the man of sin, will move many to medicate many into that image of man , that false christ like image by using behavior control meds. this is how the Whore deceives the gentile nations ' by their sorceries were the nations deceived '. the man of sin, his sorcerers will be the Pharmaceutical Industry, those who will force medication on those who 'dont measure ' up to the standard or image of christ that is portrayed by the Whore of REvelation 17. the Left Arm of the coming man of sin, the Whore of Revelation 17 during Daniels 70th week, will be the Pharmaceutical industry and those players in it.. there is ALOT of Good medicine out there God can use to heal a person, yes.. but behavior medicatoin during that time, will replace the Blood of Christ, that inner working of the Spirit of Truth, to mold and conform those to 'act' approporiately. and they will fall in line , thru the medication, a poisoning of the body, they fall in line because it Idolatry. the work of 'devils'.. and thats what Daniels 70th week is about.. DELUSION and a lie, a time frame of very strong wickedness covered up by false peace and prosperity.. indeed

daniels 70th week, a satan like man, a pharaoh type, masquerading as a disciple of Christ, son of perdition as Judas was.. Man of sin- Pharaoh type man- satan type
False Prophet- magicians- false signs wonders tentacles into the Whore of REvelation 17 - false bride
Pharmaceutical INdusty- Sorcery-witchcraft- pharmakus, deception thru behavior control meds.

its Egypt 'like' in nature, because when the Restrainer is GONE, He that Lets, those who are here will believe the 'lie' or delusion, they can create ( build build build build build build) in the name of the lord...----> the kingdom or Eden of God on this planet without Christ Returning as Foretold!..... everything is purdy much in place today, the main ingredient of the Sandy foundation, is the Pharmaceutical Industy, thats IN PLACE today.. back then there was none of that.. DO YOU REALIZE how close His Return is? today? indeed!

John talks of the 'anti christ ' coming.. NOW there are many antichrists, indeed.. many today.. claiming Christ, will turn to behavior medications to 'control and push' that person into 'behaving correctly in the Name of the LORD, those who are Genuinely led of the Spirit, Filled with the Holy Ghost, will be their first targets, the carnal man woman, not understanding the Things of Spirit , immediately turn towards 'behavior meds' to get them to conform. I have tasted this sorcery and witchcraft back in the 90s. it was diabolical and destuctive, and My Girlfriends youngest Boy tasted the same thing, but thru the educational system , as they tried to destroy that young man's identity thru pharmaceutical behavior drugs. Satan is a thief and he will try to Steal your identity in Christ, and one way he attempts is thru poisening of the Body with 'drugs'. behavior control drugs.. Idolatry, almost making you 'like a robot'.. I know all about Egypt, pharaoh types, their witchcraft, this modern day charismatic religious witchcraft, and I've SEEN God's Divine Judgment on them as they continue in Rebellion.. even after BEING WARNED time and time again! indeed!
