We had an amazing time at our little meet-up! We played group games, took turns cooking, did lots of talking and visiting, went to see a production of Les Misérables, visited the Galleria, went through a vintage/antique shop, made homemade ice cream and ate wookie cookies, laughed a lot, went out for karaoke, and got salsa dancing lessons with Catherder. The one thing we didn't do much of was SLEEP. It was worth it though. Great times!
A few people who couldn't make it (Gypsy and Jilly) sent gifts for us to enjoy, too. We love you guys! Hope we can do this again soon, and include even more CCers!

Another fun thing to do at a CC Meetup is to have an unspoken Fashion Competition.
You might notice when viewing Grace's album that Shour and I both have a thing for cartoon/funny t-shirts. His themes were ponies and planets, whereas mine was Mickey Mouse, Spiderman, and my beloved purple "girlie" Decepticon t-shirt that I personally think swept the competition! Not that I'm biased or anything .
If there is some way to gather us all together, it would be totally awesome to have a Nationwide CC Meetup in the future. Years ago the site had actually tried to plan one--one user in particular did an amazing job of putting something together--but everyone backed out at the last minute and it all fell through. I know everyone is busy and it's hard for anyone to fully commit to things like this. NO ONE wants to be the one who pays deposits on places to stay or things to do and then gets stuck with most of the bill because everyone backs out.
Our group wasn't even sure if we'd all come together (several people, whom we missed very much, couldn't make it either) but these are the ones who were able to make it.
If people were able to commit (meaning deposits would have to be paid by set deadlines), I would have no problem forming a committee to try to set up another Meetup next year, if my schedule allows. I would LOVE to visit India or Australia (I'm looking at you, Roh and TinTin!) but as other users have pointed out, it's a matter of time and money, unfortunately.
P.S. Another side effect is that it's taken me 3 days to recover from the abundance of good food and total lack of sleep (when Grace and I saw the sun rising through the curtains, we decided it might be time for a little shut-eye...)

A CC Meetup is definitely like falling down the rabbit hole or visiting the Land of Oz for a few days... and hopefully we can plan an even more epic adventure in a town near you (or maybe you can come to us ) SOON!

...while I can appreciate all the sentiment of, "Well, why don't you do a meetup where I'm at?!" I should point out to you that of all the attendees to the meetup, only ONE was a resident of the DFW area. DFW was selected specifically because 1) it's central location from an east-to-west standpoint and 2) because it is a major airline hub, meaning that it would be possible for those flying to fly direct from their local hubs with no or few connections. CatHerder flew in from CA, Seoul flew in from AZ, and originally there was to be another person flying from CA, another from the Pacific Northwest, another from Colorado, and another from Ohio. I drove for 9 hours, and Gracie drove for 3 hours. The ONLY one who was local was Misty77, and again, we did not select DFW as a convenience to her; it was central. Yes, Colorado and Tennessee are semi-central, but Colorado is less central to someone in Florida versus someone in Washington, and Tennessee is less central to someone in Oregon versus someone in Pennsylvania. While DFW does sway south, there's really no other major cities with "things to do" AND also a major airline hub right along that central point. (Come on, you're telling me you're all dying to visit downtown Tulsa? )
Believe me when I say that I would have been overjoyed to have a meetup in the Las Cruces/El Paso area, but the reality was we needed to meet someplace EQUALLY inconvenient for everyone. ^_^ Misty77 just lucked out.
If there are any feelings of exclusion, please also understand that this meetup discussion started in and was carried out in the chatroom, not on the forums. It wasn't done that way to exclude anyone, it's just that we always ended up discussing it as such.

one more thing. no one needs ALL of us to plan a meet up, or to even plan and promote such a thing on the public pages of this site. in fact, i personally would discourage such a thing (for safety reasons). specifics should be handled off-line, in my opinion. but i digress...
in fact, anyone should feel free to organize something in their "greater area". there are a handful of regions that have a number of cc'ers, and that includes those who have upcoming plans to travel--they could organize meetups in their "destination" locales. you could start a thread with general inquiry, and take the conversation off-line, or create a group for private discussion.
there is no designated leader or "owner" of meetups. anyone can take the onus to plan a meet up in their area, and i hope folks consider such a thing. : )
meet ups only occur and happen when one (or a few folks) decides to take some ownership and make it happen.

For all the fun and games that were had, it should also be said that a meetup is also a LOT of hard work and expense that one must be able to commit to in order to participate. It took a good 8 months of planning or more, and many times we didn't think it would come together at all because of people having to bow out due to busy schedules.
The trips there and back were also neither glamorous nor pretty. In order to try to make the most of the full time there (I'll try to condense all the gory details), on the way there, I arrived at the airport at 8:30 PM but my flight didn't leave until 1:30 AM. On the way home, I arrived at the airport at 9 PM (by my own request) because my flight was supposed to go out at 11:15 PM, but instead, we didn't even board the plane until almost 3 AM (this is already after averaging 3-4 hours of sleep every night at the meetup.) At those hours, everything was closed up and it was a miracle to find vending machines that worked and would produce a bottle of water. Praise God for the stash of Wookie Cookies that Catherder convinced me to take home or I would have not gotten a chance to eat in about 12 hours, by the time I finally made it home.
Being by myself, I also stayed awake the entire time to make sure no one tampered with or tried to take my luggage. To say that there were endlessly long, lonely hours at the airport and that I was exhausted would be the understatement of the year. For some reason I can't sleep on planes, and I wouldn't have been able to anyway seeing as I had a crying child behind me and a very angry cat meowing nonstop in the row ahead of me (the owner said they'd just come from Germany and that this cat had been on planes with her for 20 hours. No wonder it was so mad!!!)
I pretty much fell into an on-and-off coma and could not function for the next 3 days after I got home.
So, just to clear up any of the fantasies, it was a lot of time, expense, and long, grisly hours at the airport. (And as Shour said, it all started with small discussions within group chat with people who happened to be meeting there regularly... It certainly wasn't planned as any kind of exclusive thing.)
Was it worth it? Very much so. But the travel and journey to get to that point definitely wasn't pleasant or enjoyable.
