That's funny... any regular family gathering we have joins a crowd of approximately 20-25 people... and we are so used to doing it that we just buy groceries in advance, and cook in the day of the party... all you gotta do is get everyone to help... and all goes smooth...

Everybody eats and usually everybody takes some home... :) It's family!! You gotta do your part!!

Team work is the key!! :D
That's awesome, Carol!!!

Well the year I made T-Day Dinner, I wanted to give my Grandmas both a rest so I did everything myself. It was my first turkey ever and I remember marinating it in a huge plastic tub inside my freezer. I was also horrified at pulling out the packet of giblets!

I wanted everything to be perfect so I made a big turkey, gravy and stuffing (from a box--I cheated), but most everything else was from scratch, including both white mashed potatoes and candied sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce... and a few other things I've forgotten.

I think I bought like 3 pre-made desserts and my boyfriend at the time's mother brought a pie... but otherwise, I wanted to try to take on everything myself so the other ladies could take a break.

Usually I'm by myself for the holidays so I'm just fine with a Lean Cuisine!

Oh man, I made a Thanksgiving Dinner ONE year, and only for like 8 people, and I told myself NEVER AGAIN. It was SO much work, I made a chart and 3-day schedule of how and when to cook everything, and it was gone in less than half an hour.

I'm only using rum extract because I didn't want to buy a whole bottle of rum (wouldn't have anything to do with the rest of it.) I kept reading about how you can take super ripe bananas, mash them up, freeze them, and voila... ice cream substitute. I was skeptical because I hate ripe bananas (I only like them when their yellow with a tinge of green), but I actually tried this and it was fantastic. I added vanilla and almond extract last time, so this time I'm also going to add in these "faux rum" raisins.
Wow, sounds excellent! I usually just make banana bread when the bananas get overripe, but i gotta try this. Thx. I have a bottle of 50yr old dark rum from the islands (its a long story), and the only thing i use it for is sticky buns (shh, i told ya, its a secret) so it may continue to last a looong time. I think you can get 'the captain's' spiced rum by the pint, so there won't be too much, and i believe there's a way to cook it down into a syrup-type topping, but I don't know the other ingredients/ratio. You could probly find a recipe on the internets. ;) . Sorry about the turkey troubles, but don't feel bad, it's not for everybody. You have to Really Love to cook to get thru it all and still have some semblance of grace and sanity left at the end of the day, and most honest cooks will tell you they've had at least 1 thanksgiving kitchen disaster. I'm looking fwd to it, and there's nothing better than fried stuffing with a little melted swiss for leftovers. Always have to make LOTS of stuffing, tho, in order to have any leftovers. And those creamed onions...Yum. Now I'm hungry and I gotta wait 4 weeks. Your invited for pizza AND turkey. (Hmm, stuffing pizza...interesting)

That's awesome!! We usually do that to give our gramma a little rest as well..

The family's gatherings are usually at her place, but everybody chips in...

I have 5 aunts/uncles just on my mom's side of the family... plus my sisters, cousins, and everyone's significant others... if I count my dad's side of the family... that goes over the roof... Parties on that side are crazy... we can gather about 40 people easily... if we decide to gather friends as well it turns into complete madness... which is cool... we all love a little madness... hehehehe

New Year party with my dad's side of the family is always awesome!! :)

I'm kind of excited right now. I've been looking for jobs and I applied to one on Sunday at a health food store, but now I might be able to work with a really good friend of mine! She's the one that went on the trip with me. She's become one of my best friends because her and I just relate so easily with each other. She got a job in my area and she told me the place is still hiring. Best part? It's a coffee shop. :D

I love all these big name books that are really popular but I haven't come across one book where they didn't have sex until after marriage. Sex is something you work your way up to.
You can always read Twilight. They waited.

Yeah, that. For holiday dinners everybody cook something and brings it. Fortunately we all live pretty close to each other so we can get to Grandma's while everything is still either hot or cold. Almost everybody in my family is a pretty good cook, so family holiday dinners are something not to be missed. And you definitely don't want to fill up your stomach at a fast food restaurant before you go over to Grandma's. In fact you might skip the meal prior to whatever meal we are eating so you will have more room when you get there.

We used to all help clean up, but these days we just use plastic cups and paper plates. We got lazy.

That's the spirit!!! :D

Eating before a feast like that is sinful!! You just don't do it!!

You save up all of your tummy space for the wonderful food that's gonna be there waiting for ya!! :D

Oh... the wonders!! I love family parties!! We always have them at least once a month... sometimes twice!! On rare ocasions we have more than that, but that's only when people are really inspired!! huehuehuehue

Ugh. My kitty got in a catfight earlier and ended up with a scratched eye. No blood thank god but it looks like its to the vet tomm, they told me to just keep an eye on him the next 24 hours and see if it improves before I bring him in. Always something to deal with. One week of peace with no major issues would be great.

On my knees praying for my son...so many prayer warriors here would be grateful to bathe him in prayers tonight. 17..such a precarious time.
