Hey y'all! Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I wanted to make a thread where we could post on what we are thankful for.

We could also talk about our favorite Thanksgiving dishes, memories, and what we plan to do this year.

For those of you who will be spending it alone or have lost someone this year, it's also a place to find at least some sense of joy. We are all here for you.

I'm thankful for Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us. I'm also thankful for my mom and brother, they are amazing! Lastly, I'm thankful for all of you. I've made great friends on here this past year, what a blessing!

I may post a dessert recipe later on this month. ;)

I'm thankful for our Heavenly Father, without Him I am nothing. I'm thankful for my children and my friends and family. I love Thanksgiving and I've been hosting Thanksgiving Dinner for my family at our house for 25 years now. My specialty is my homemade cranberry sauce, I make extra every year for friends and family. One of the traditions that my kids look forward to is drawing of each other's name for their Secret Santa. We usually do this during dessert and then of course my youngest is always trying to figure who has who..... LOL.....It was a way of tying in the beginning of Christmas season at our house:eek:

What? It's been an hour since this thread started and nobody has said anything about Thanksgiving being pagan? Y'all are slipping badly.

In related news, I thank God for my sense of humor. A bit off-beat sometimes but it sure makes life more interesting. Be awful boring if I didn't have one. :D

Honestly I have been relieved this year, we didn't have near as many Holiday accusers as we did the last few years

Amen and amen! If I got what I wanted I'd be of all men most miserable. Mostly because there's a vast discrepancy between what we want and what we need.

I am thankful for my salvation and the Grace God extends me daily. I'm so thankful for my son, our relationship, and the man he is becoming.

Over the past 10+ years I have hosted Thanksgiving for my family and it has morphed into a family reunion week very rich with traditions. I am beyond grateful that I have able to play a role in these memories for my family as I had no idea it would become what it is today. most of the family arrive on Mon and stay through the following Sun or Mon after Thanksgiving. I take the week off to cook but start baking weeks before. As my mother is 100% Polish we have incorporated many polish traditions and dishes into our celebration. Since I am feeding my family for a week I make shredded beef chili brisket and chicken fajitas usually 2 weekends ahead and freeze it for quick lunches and meals. Three weekends before I make 5 batches of Kolachkis (traditional polish cookie) as they are time consuming and will take an entire weekend to make. I flash freeze them uncooked so I can just bake the day of. My mother arrives the weekend before to help cook and the memories I have with her over the years are literally a gift! we have had small kitchen fires, 2 am meltdowns as I planned beyond my capabilities or time, and countless apple pie fiascos which have resulted in our original apple pie recipe honed over years of taste tasting and adjusting that I will pass down to whomever takes over the tradition when I no longer can.

This years menu was finalized last weekend with mom:
Dessert table (set up all week) cookies (crumbles, white cherry chunk, choc chip, 7 layer), Kolachkis (traditional polish cookie), Carmel bars, peanut brittle, and rum balls.

Dinner: Typical dinner Turkey (brined and citrus rub), ham, Garlic mash, sweet potato casserole, Brussels, corn, kielbasa sausage stuffing, pierogis, and cranberries. Dessert is Apple and pumpkin pie, ice box cake, and creme brûlée. New addition so will be an experiment this yr.

There is a traditional polish drink Krupnick which is honey spiced Vodka that we make and toast before the meal.

After dinner we sit outside around the fire pit to open the Christmas ornaments my mom bought for everyone which are tied to whatever events you had that year and unique to you.

Sorry for the long post...I hadn't intended on including details but it has become such a special time for my family.

I'm thankful for a great life! Its great because I learned about Jesus Christ when I was four years old, and to this very day, a big part of me is still that four year old little boy rejoicing knowing He loves us.

Save me some creme brulee, chickwithsticks!

My sisters and I have been exchanging recipe and menu ideas over group text for a few weeks, but nothing set in stone yet. My dad usually makes the turkey, my mom will probably make some kind of rice and beans and fried plantains, the rest of us prepare everything else

I've found recipes online for cranberry cheddar breadsticks (maybe will convert to rolls), apple chai pie, sweet potato gratin with streusel topping, bacon/leek/pecan cornbread stuffing, warm heirloom potato salad (pretty colors), charred skillet corn, various greens, and I've had a duck sitting in my freezer for a several months that I might drive home for my dad to prepare.

My favorite part: being with family, making and receiving house calls from extended family and friends

Chick,

You're not going to believe this but my adopted parents were Polish, so I grew up eating Polish food and one of the dish I have to make every Thanksgiving is Kielbasa and sauerkraut, my kids absolutely loves that stuff!!

Happy Thanksgiving is now "Hope you dont get punched in the face if you go to walmart this evening".

I recently made a cop friend where I just moved to. She told me if you ever want to park anywhere you want with no tickets, to just park wherever you please on black friday. They are too busy preventing riots at the stores and they dont even write one parking ticket that day, because its pointless. They let it slide that day
