ISIS want polarisation, using psychopaths to cause a back lash that will generate more of a reaction until all is chaos and death.

We have to fight smart.

1. Put Islam on trial, its philosophy and history
2. Put the human condition on trial and how democracy, love, support works
3. Bring people together on basic human empathetic realities and the basics of life.

ISIS can only work on the basis they are the righteous and everyone else is evil. To fulfill this dream they want to promote the end of the world, using suicide attacks. But this shows they have no real strength other than this polarised view.

If you become their wish, they win, rather than expose them as mass murderers with an agenda to turn others into psychopaths, so they can point and say, we are the victims rather than the generators of the problem.

Terrorists never win because they have military power, but because they stop the normal functioning of society. The counter is elimination of the terrorist cells, and accepting the loss as part of the risk of having a healthy society.
We win by believing and living with love, no matter how others behave. We also have to bring to justice murderers and the insane, but not become that ourselves.

I wonder what Israel would have looked like like if they actually followed Gods instructions to "wipe everyone out"?

Tinder box. Is obama putting our troops in the Russian crosshairs on purpose? Seems to me this is a recipe for a head to head between Russia and him. Notice I didn't say us...I don't agree with anything obama is doing or has done.

My hunch is that there is a deal in the works to peaceably replace Assad and they are positioning troops just in case there is pushback from other factions.

US special forces are already in Syria.

Not likely. The US wants to partition Syria using the Kurds as an excuse.

Thanks for the update, Crossnote. I haven't read the Middle East news since the terrorist attacks in Paris, our country is focusing on our security for the moment and not on fighting back against IS, however they promise to do so in the near future.

It seems to me that currently, Russia is the only country in the world who is actually willing to put an end to the Islamic State's rule and existence. Russia flattening Raqqa makes me think about the prophecy of Damascus being turned into a heap of ruins. What if the Islamic State's capital would be in Damascus? Would they make Damascus look like a heap of ruins? Only the future will tell, I guess.

One thing we know for sure: the world is finally waking up to this threat and many countries are getting themselves ready to go to war against IS in Syria. This, of course, will mark the beginning of a lot of changes in the 5 year old 'civil' war in Syria and is interesting to keep our mind focused on.

The last verse of Isaiah 17 indicates that Israel will be involved when Damascus is taken away from being a city but has become a heap of ruins. I believe that when many countries will face each other in Syria, things will escalate into neighboring countries such as Israel. Or maybe IS will first be able to take over Damascus and when Israel will feel the heat coming they will nuke Damascus? Conjecture/reality... who will tell?

Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

My hunch is that that destruction happens simultaneously with the destruction of Gog's army invasion in Ezekiel.

That's very much possible, since Ezekiel tells us Gog comes 'and many nations with thee', so Syria could be involved. These events will happen one after the other in a very short time period (7 years).

Raqqa is the capital of their self proclaimed caliphate. Bombing it to bits wont finish them but it may be a big psychological
blow.

Yeah, my pet theory is that there has not been anyone or anything really important in Raqqa for weeks. They probably just funnel people there as punishment for being seen in an Easter cantata.

Is there ANY actual evidence, such as before and after pictures of RAQQA to prove it has ACTUALLY been "flattened?" I haven't seen any, so I'm asking.
