Probably the same place where He teaches about the ceasing of the gifts.
i was pretty sure Jesus didnt but i was going by memory. so i looked it up. Jesus, the only begotten son of our almighty Father, mentions tongues one time. one time and no more.

[SUP]15 [/SUP]He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. [SUP]16 [/SUP]Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. [SUP]17 [/SUP]And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; [SUP]18 [/SUP]they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

the context of this is a new language being as they were about to go out in new places that didnt speak their language.

yet many believe tongues means a unique heavenly language that is spoken between the speaker and the Lord that no one else can understand. im sure its possible, but what makes no sense at all, in all the teachings of Jesus, the great teacher, he does not mention this tongue language one time.

Maybe that is why Jesus said..

John 16:12-13 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
[SUP]13 [/SUP] "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

Imagine trying to explain to the disciples about being able to speak supernaturally to your Father in a tongue which could be an angelic one or from a tribe from the Amazon jungle...and it gets worse..your mind will not know what you are talking about..you are speaking mysteries and praying for people you have no idea about. It would blow their mind!
Jeus told the disciples 1 times He was going to die..and yet they still didn't get it....human reasoning!

BUT the reality is that the Holy SPirit did come and people spoke in tongues to glorify God ,to be able to speak mysteries in the spirit to the Father, to give thanks and to bless the Lord, to edify the believer in Christ.

When ever we let "human reasoning" dictate what we believe...we might have a chance to be missing out on a beautiful blessing from our Lord..

just sayin'

So because Jesus did not elaborate on speaking in tongues but Paul did, do you believe Paul was in error to do so?

Here we go again. Only three sign gifts ceased not all the gifts. Only by changing the issue can those who follow after tongues continue to err.

Tongues were never given for the Gentile church.

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. [SUP]45 [/SUP]The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. [SUP]46 [/SUP]For they heard them speaking in tongues[SUP][b][/SUP] and praising God
Acts 10:44-46

Was Cornelius a Jew or Gentile?

Who was Paul writing to in Corinth, Jews or Gentiles?

i like paul but he is not Jesus. everything paul taught was directing people back to what Jesus taught. i would not take any writings of paul and place them above what Jesus taught.
Jesus teaches nothing about tongues but He does put great emphases on laws of man and for us not to get caught up in them as they lead you away from the Lord.

Jesus was in line to the cross. His focus was salvation. The Holy Spirit's gifting was for another time, and for those who have found salvation. His job is to equip the saints, and tongues is a part of His equipping.

The Church is made up of Gentiles as well as Jews. Every spiritual gift listed in scripture is available and active today, and will never cease until the Church is completed with the return of Jesus Christ.

Jesus spoke of the Holy Spirit in Detail found in Johns gospel chapter 14, and 16. The Gift of the holy Spirit are spoken in many location in the new testament 1 cor 12, 13, 14 And the Book of Acts. Paul did not add to or take away anything Jesus had said. Also Jesus had not yet suffered the cross when HE made these statements about the " Comforter" Holy the Holy Spirit operated in the Book of Acts is in Line with what Jesus said the Spirit would do. Jesus told them to go and wait until they received power. When the Power came it was manifested as we see in Acts and repeated throughout the Book of Acts many times. 1Cor 12, 13, 14 Jesus did not speak about in Detail because the Church had not yet been born which was on the day of Pentecost and their is no debating that all Orthodox Teaching of Christianity teach that and more importantly the Word of God shows that. Context is very important I think

Jesus said there was much more he wanted to teach the disciples but they could not yet bear such knowledge. When the holy spirit came upon them then they would be guided into all truth. The holy spirit had come on Paul and the other writers of the epistles, and those led of the same spirit will not question what the apostles wrote but accept it all. For unity, being of one heart and mind can only come through the spirit( phil2:2)

I've never spoken in "tongues" as is commonly referenced. I've known some who have. It does come with some qualifiers as to whether its authentic or now, which I think many people ignore. Is it for today? Probably. Is it a gift that should be specifically desired above others? No.

I can always count on you Roger to say something like that, especially when I mentioned earlier that Paul wrote a whole chapter on it to Corinth, a gentile church.

1 Corinthians 14:1-5 (KJV)
There, go back & read that, so you can keep yerself from looking like a donkey.;)
