I just wanted to create a discussion that would not only benefit me but also create an opportunity 4 other people to talk about this taboo issue!
Threads on this subject pop up every week or two. It's actually an overkilled subject here.

Well OP man,

Wesley talks about Holy and Unholy affections. Porn definitely falls under the 'unholy' category. It feeds out lust, which feeds our flesh, which draws us further away from God. The flesh cannot be sanctified, but has to be crucified.

Now, the struggle is real, I know, but we have to put to death our fleshly ways, and ask God to help us put on and grow the 'new man' born of Spirit instead of flesh.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't share in that struggle, but it is that...a struggle. Don't let it win. Don't give up. Don't let sin corrupt you, because the only thing sin leads to is destruction and death. We can't always see it at the time, but that's the ultimate truth without exception. The devil comes only to lie, steal, kill, and destroy. Our heart and flesh only deceive us to give in to our corruption.

We need to seek Christ and ask that He restore us to a new heart and new mind by the power of His Holy Spirit, and work on changing our thoughts, choices, feelings, words, actions...to be under the Lordship of Christ...instead of under our own devices.

I pray God helps, heals, convicts, forgives, and changes you and I, and all those like us. We all sin and fall short of God. We all like sheep turn our own way. Thank God that He doesn't give up on us, though, and I pray He'll turn us around. Our God is a loving Father who wants only the best for us. I hope we all can realize that, sooner rather than later, but still in time.

Sometimes life is going to be hard, OP. But you have to realize that in order to love God, you have to stop loving porn. You can't serve two masters. Now I know we each have our areas of difficulty. Mine would be that I can be a bit narcissistic (always thinking about my problems and how I feel about things) and I tend to be really hard on myself to the point where I don't show any love to myself or others. It's ironic how narcissism doesn't always mean a love for one's self. It could be a case of self-centeredness. Which is what I think I do.

Pornography is a huge one too. You really need to get away from it. I don't know what tips to offer you because I think it's harder for men to leave it than for women. But I will be praying for you.

I've noticed that when I really get into the word and start reading it daily or worshiping more often, the Holy Spirit really brings out discernment within me. I tend to feel really bad about putting myself down when I'm in this stage. Now this doesn't last forever because sometimes I put other things in the way like school or friends. But I know that I need to put more effort into giving up more time for God. This way He will give me the discernment I need to avoid those bad things.

Maybe this is what you need to do too. I hope you give it a shot. And if you fail once or twice, don't put yourself down, but pick yourself right up.

Remember that Peter denied Jesus three times and instead of feeling depressed about it he picked himself up and helped the build the Church. There is no use in feeling sorry for ourselves. We are all going to fall, but what matters is how we pick ourselves up.

I was never addicted to porn myself but it's the same as fornication. How I got set free from that while I really loved the guy:
Got a dream that we were both falling into hell.
Listened to John Kilpatrick.
He said: Get out of there now in the Name of Jesus!
You are able to not go to a hooker because that is sin, so don't believe the lie that you can't stop.
You got a new nature, died with Christ. Repent and ask Him to lead you in repentance and be set free from those demons.
Speak oved yourself that you died with Christ and are a new creation.
How did the woman caught in adultery get free? She met Him and repented.

Talk to Jesus. Tell Him the truth about how you really feel about what you're doing. You may be able to lie to us, or your church folks, or even yourself, but you can't bs the Lord.

So, be honest and tell Him how you feel about it.
Then, when you're done, if you sincerely want to change your ways,
ask Him to change your ways.
Tell Him you can't stop on your own, and you sincerely want His help.
Do you really think He's gonna say NO,
and force you to go watch more porn?!

If the Lord Jesus Christ is truly your Savior,
then God is your heavenly Father,
and He'll give you all the help you need.
After all, He already gave His only begotten Son to die for your sins.
He gave you His Best, He gave you His Life, He gave you His Love.

He's God our Savior, so let Him SAVE you.
He loves doing that kind of thing, and He's pretty good at it.

Keep in mind, He's the one who spoke,
and the universe leaped into existence.
And ever since, He's kept the planets from bashing into each other,
and kept this old ball of dirt from flying out of orbit into oblivion,
and He keeps us all in His capable, nail-pierced hands,
so nothing's too hard for Him, including our 'addictions'.

So talk honestly to Jesus...He already paid your way to eternity
in His kingdom and eternal life, He knows how to do what we can't.
He knows us.
He knows us and He loves us anyway!
Tell Him thanks, and ask Him to help you to stop
trading His love, and your life, away,
for some temporary cheap thrills.

We have people here who pray for us and each other,
and we have our God and Savior who loves us.
Praise the Lord and thanks be to God who gives us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

The problem with porn is it creates in the viewer a biological reaction, that is designed to lead to sex and emotional release.
In someways you are a victim of your own reaction and the exploitation of this by those who push the images.

It is not neutral though, and is feeding sexuality above care and relationship. Some have described it as a release but I think it is just a mire, saying these emotions and reactions have meaning and fulfillment outside of a relationship. But the reality is it destroys who we are and the people we meet into gratifying objects rather than people worthy of respect and love. Out of sex we were made and the love within the family is founded on this intimacy, which porn is destroying.

The relationships expressed in porn are people dying infront of your eyes, giving their youth away, trampling on the gift of life for a bit of money, to gratify and destroy the viewers for a sexual high. The people who participate in the industry often die inside, become suicidal, and feel totally demeaned. We are more than slabs of meat on the lust convey of someone else desires. The reality is those who indulge in such unboundaried desire often loose real intimacy and desire in themselves unless they are so addicted, it is just destroying all that they are.

If you begin to see this reality, it no longer is appealing but just the sordid self indulgence and betrayal of life that it really is. To get free is often to see these people as real and not the fantasy we aspire to without realising the intimacy, love and friendship is actually right in front of us, in our families, in our churches, in our friends and with people we can truly fall in love with.

Where did you live in PA? I lived in Washington county for ten years. :)

On another note, I saw the Rays play at Tropicana. Had a great time, but they beat my Royals 3-2.

My flesh loves it but my spirit hates it!
The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

The desires of the flesh can be strong but I have found the more time i spent with God the less my fleshly desires even crossed my mind
