That's what you'd think, but it's not because of that. The actual reason is they believe they are superior.

Like I said I know it sounds outrageous, especially for us in the West, but it's a mad mad world.

I actually find it surprising that there are people who cant believe that some women do chose to dress that way, and believe themselves it is right. I mean, here in the US, we have women who dress lewdly, and then we have women who think those women are wrong, and promote dressing modestly.

Its the same thing, just to a more extreme.

And I dont believe women should be forced to cover their entire body, but I definitely believe in dressing modestly, and not putting your body on display. Free rights yada yada yada, I still think its wrong.

Im not all the way through this thread yet, but I kinda noticed something. Ill probly get some people who wont like this, but I still took notice of it and wanna share it.

We talk alot about the homosexual movement. And we mostly all agree on Gods word, its not the right way. There are very few people who get upset by pointing out its wrong, or claim that we are merely blaming others for our own problems. Someone brings up the way some women dress, and then we get some people who become angry and get somewhat hostile at the OP. I dont remember him saying that every woman should be shamed, I read that he wished those women would dress more modestly. I would agree with that.

I can understand if someone took it as in "we should do what the muslims are doing", I dont agree with that at all : p But I do agree that in countries like the US, there is this problem in our culture, both with women you see on the streets, but especially with women you see in pop culture.

Anyone who plays video games will see male characters covered head to toe in armor, with a female character whos wearing just enough to to cover most her chest and crotch. Not to mention the number one songs right now are songs with lyrics like "look at her butt", with music videos of girls shaking their butts.

And yeah, it exists on the male side, too. There are bands with male singers who take every opportunity to take off their shirt and wear the skinniest jeans they can find. Theres no reason to pass blame back and forth or get angry about it. Its a real thing happening in our lives.

And if you don't believe me, how about a word from Jesus?

"But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matt 5:28[/QUOTE]

First I would like to thank Jesus before hand for seeing me thought this thread... :)

Angela, I was almost happy when I started reading your post I thought "finally a person who get's it" - this was in response to the prayer 5 x a day thing. I have previously posted that Jesus would love such devotion (if it's real and true to heart) which as some have pointed out on here - for muslims may NOT be the case. They are literally forced to pray or be punished or even killed. So our state of faith in the west is what it is... it won't change.

On the subject of modest dress lemme again address my concerns....

O wait first ...

1. If you are literally blind to the world... you have made it! Please move along... enjoy your walk in faith and leave me alone...

1.1 If you never sin and are never tempted by anything worldly - go away - you are in a much better place than I. I certainly have NO time to argue with perfect people.

For those who care...

2. I NEVER and WOULD NEVER lump all women into this. MANY CHRISTIAN women DO dress in a modest manner as do MANY other women for what ever reason. So NO this thread was not and is not directed at women on this site, their families, friends, distant relatives, acquaintances, co-workers, neighbors, or any one else they may have, or will in the future, interact with in anyway. - I find it insane (and concerning really) some have taken it so personally -

Also - For the exceptionally versed women on men and men's personal issues you already know the following so please move along. Your insightful replies and to willingness to understand have been well received - thank you! And may God always bless you for your open hearts.

For the others...

3. O O - Shock report - Men are visual creatures - and guess what - some of us get tempted by the flesh. Strong as we may be. It's pure chaos ppl!!

Sooo....

4. When we idk... go the grocery store, the PARK with our kids, the beach or any* pool, turn on the TV to ANY* channel, just open the internet, look at the news, watch ANY* movie, and see ass cheeks hanging out of daisy dukes, women with accentuated large boobs eating a ... oh idk... a burger... or yoga pants so tight not only can you see the entire ass crack but also frontal camel toe, women with large breasts who wear low cut halter tops, micro bikinis, etc... SOMETIMES we look AND get TEMPTED... crazy I know.!!...how weak we are:) We are men of GOD for God's sake! How dare we... such sinners!!

Unfortunately (and you better believe it's unfortunate) we tend to have greater sex drives - something to do with sexuality/reproduction/survival of man kind...I think... or maybe it's just pure sin from satan! O no!!!!!!!!

Anyway, my original question was - if those who tempt are sinning... and the answer is yes. Case closed.

So as with most in life... it is what it is... I know I am not alone on this issue...

And a sincere thank you to those who have defended me on this.

Shall we consider the matter closed then?

Ok, I'm gonna open a can of worms on the garb issue: women of the Bible (you know Mary, Martha, Jesus' mother, etc.) dressed a LOT like Muslim women do. BOOM just made a million women mad as hornets with one fact.

But back to the guessing.

Jeopardy style: What is they are so devoted to Allah and Muhammad and their teachings, that they're willing to sacrifice everything for it? whereas Christians often compromise and ignore some of God's truth?

lol - Your prize from me = A TON of respect!! What some fail to understand on THIS thread in particular, is that they too were ONCE young and foolish. Maturity brings a lot of clarity... but guess what............

YOU HAVE TO GET THERE FIRST... :)

In response to muslim devotion... a LOT of it is because not only is it the LAW in their countries, there are severe - like thousands of lashes from a whip / years in their jails or being stoned to death - punishments for saying the slightest thing against their prophet mohammed or their religion. You can not disagree... your own family will gladly turn you in for such disobedience... so many many are simply scared to death to say or do anything against it and follow the teachings to a T...anywhere on earth...their own kind keep very watchful eyes on everyone...

Because Jesus gave us free choice - people are not required to follow Him or do anything really - what would be the point? He only wants people who truly love Him - their prize - eternal life with Him...:)

When I read the OP, my first thought was that Muslims pray 5 times a day. Now I know they face Mecca, rattle off some Arabic liturgy about Mohammed and Allah, which of course is wrong!

But imagine if every Christian stopped 5 times a day what they were doing, and issued s heart felt prayer to Jesus, the real Saviour, Lord and God! Why we would get amazing answers, revival with people getting saved, and Christians being transformed by the power of God.

Instead I find this self centred drivel that women should wear burkas to stop men from being tempted! Here's a word from the woman someone talked about on the earlier pages of this thread!

"Suck it up guys! Spend time in the Word and prayer, so that God will direct your thoughts heavenward, instead of to lust. Rather than making women the object of your desire, make Christ the centre of your life, instead of blaming women."

And if you don't believe me, how about a word from Jesus?

"But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Matt 5:28
arrow.jpg Amen! \:D/

And I reiterate:

"Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh." 2 Corinthians 5:16

"We live by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7

Angela, I'm afraid some people are just not ready to receive the truth in this area. As long as they remain in the flesh it's impossible for them to see the truth. I'm leaving this thread now & trusting God to open their eyes. He's faithful to complete what He started in each of us. :)

I'm sorry if you thought I was speaking to you. I was actually talking about the whole thread. In a way, it did get abducted to be about women and lewd dress and what it does to men.

I don't think I even addressed that in my post. Because I do agree totally with the people who say that too many women in North America dress in ways that are totally unacceptable.

I was a professional musician, played in bars, pubs and concerts before I was saved. I was always covered from head to toe. I wore dressed that covered everything, pants, skirts, but they all had to be modest. I guess that is because I knew in my heart that making people drunk was bad enough, but exposing myself to the lewd stares of drunk men was a step I was not willing to take. I suppose I would never have made it in show biz, because I was not willing to go the skimpy clothes route, which sadly, men never have to worry about. That is real sexism - that women have to dress immodestly to be popular in the music industry but men can wear whatever they feel comfortable in.

Anyway, my point was not about burkas or women, but again, that we do need as a people to pray, to seek God and to serve him with all our hearts. The Muslims are fanatics and their religion is dangerous. I think we can all agree. But their dedication to their wrongful cause is something we need to look at.

Are we sold out to Jesus totally? Are we deny ourselves daily, picking up our cross and walking with him? Surely, we who serve the living God can do so much more than the pagans!

" And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?" ........:)

My deepest apologies to you Angela!!!! In turn, my response wasn't personal in nature either... I think what really got to me is the whole "get over it you weak man" type of attitude...

Again, we are here to praise God and discuss his Word as well as address real life issues that are constantly pulling baby-Christians (and even mature Christians) the opposite way... :)

I like how you brought some real life accounting of this into your post! Thank you.

God bless you lady!

Talk about addressing an issue and running a country mile with it!!
Makes perfect sense....
In the West some woman dress too provocatively ergo it would be best if they covered head to toe in a black tent so that every inch of them is covered except the eyes.
I mean come on, some woman have very pretty eyes and men seen so incapable of resisting the sexual urges that woman subject them to everyday I say the blatant exposure of the eyes is just too much. Surely woman can go the extra length and cover them up too. It shouldn't be an issue in Saudi Arabia where Wahhabism/Salafism is law, woman there can't drive or leave their house without a male escort so the men can effectively be our eyes for us.

I must say, this thread has given me quite the laugh.

The hijab is the commonly and historically used headwear worn by majority of Muslim woman throughout history. They often use colourful and luxurious fabric and I think the woman look beautiful. They are given a choice to wear it, with most opting to usually out of tradition.
To speak of the Burka so flippantly is a sign of ignorance. I couldn't care less personally to the OP and subsequent remarks, with the rather immature banter of how all the woman will get their knickers in a twist but I am rather dumbfounded by the ignorance and stupidity of making such a statement regarding the Burka.
If you understood the history of the Burka who is implementing it and why, you may change your tune, although I'm quite certain rational argument is not on the forefront here.
It is a requirement of The Taliban, The Muslim Brotherhood, Isis and Salafism. Salafism is the branch of Islam practiced in Saudi Arabia and is the branch of Islam that is followed by the extremist, terrorist branches of Islam. Woman in Africa, Asia, The Middle East and Europe who have by and large historically worn the hijab are being forced by these extremists to wear the burka. These woman are trapped within a misogynist society that forces them into submission. Under this branch of Islam their is no choice, Muslim woman who defend it are no different to any victim that assimilates with their oppresser.
The terrorist, religious fanatics are the ones following and pushing the burka. It is not the norm within Islam, or hasn't historically been. As Salafism is being pushed and funded by Saudi Arabia into poorer Muslim countries and into the west the prevelence of the burka is increasing.
The same crazy SOB's that wouldn't think twice of bombing your town, lopping your head off your shoulders are the exact same guys that would also cover your, wife, mother and sister in a burka.

This is a subject that has real credibility.
The society in which we live that thinks nothing of sexually exploiting anyone and everyone at any given time. It's a real issue and not one that falls directly on the shoulders of woman. Men get around with just as little respect for themselves as woman.
But let's talk about it rationally without making such ridiculous, hyperbole statements that does not offend me as a woman in a personal sense but it offends me because you are albeit rather ignorantly making light of an issue that involves a very dangerous, fanatical, oppressive and violent form of Islam.
You want the Burka?
Careful what you wish for!

whoa, girl! no one's asking for a burka. Don't get tights tied up over a few observations. Especially since this thread wasn't really about what women should and should not wear. that was side banter.

Ya think?
Would you like to go back through the thread to be sure about that?
Let me help.....
The title of the thread is "Where Muslims may have it right" to which there was speculation what the OP meant burka or prayer practises which was clarified by ramx when he stated "No you got it.... The black tents woman wear"
speculation over, the original question was referring to the burka.
Just to make it clear that the others posters were on the same wavelength two posters left subsequent remarks;
"It's not condoning the entire religion but one point (the burka)
"but this isn't a porn thread.... We are just talking about how the burka is actually a good thing that they practice because it works"

Secondly your assertion that this thread wasn't about what women wear is so totally off base I'm questioning if we are in fact referring to the same thread!!
Ramx remarks about having contempt for woman who wear revealing clothing which he so eloquently described with ass crack, camel toe, ass hanging out, big busty boobs or some equally ridiculous remark shows very clearly what this thread is about. Which was also eloquently cemented when a poster remarked about western women being slutty.
It was not side banter but rather the entire crux of the thread.

If you would like to make a more relevant remark regarding my post that would be awesome but I'm an Aussie and I call a spade a spade, I'm not much into BS and I like direct, intelligent discussion.

Right now I'm telling myself if that's the case I think I chose the wrong thread to post on.

LOL a million times!!!!!!!

It's the thread that refuses to die...

As the OPr all I would like to say is that the original intent of this post has LONG LONG LONG been lost. But it's fine.

You ARE CORRECT - I demand ALL western (you know what just make it all women) women, Christian or otherwise to don black (no other colors you temptresses!!) tents ! AND eye masks... that was a great point I left out of my op....thanks.

Not only is it appropriate but ....

actually with they way we are voting it's coming to a state near you!

YAY!! A Milllllllllioonnn times YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally peace on earth AND I won't ever get aroused by another woman! Thank you!!

Eh, maybe its the bias of growing up in our culture, but I don't find it that surprising. Just as you rightly say if anything the lewd style is in vogue in the West. So it makes sense that the more modest eastern styles being so polar opposite to the West kinda scares them. I think for those people its not so much the garb itself as it is kind of a xenophobia.

It's like the dress thing isn't even so totally exclusive to Islam. Like the headscarfs for instance is not totally tied to islam. There's a flavorful history of hats and headwear all over time and space for both men and women. Islam is evil and part of it shows in the clothing controversies around it. One can see how islam corrupts what could be otherwise pretty beautiful garments, skilled craft by skilled women, a nation's beautiful unique culture, and turns it into chains of bondage and uses it as basically an excuse to beat women and other bad stuff.
