We usually begin by making a thread about a Biblical topic and then we post back and forth about it. After a while we might exhaust our thoughts about it and digress off into foolishness, but if you have a thought about the topic (old earth vs. young earth in this thread) please jump right in and we will come back to it.
My thought is that only NOW exists so who cares young or old earth?

These three remain ..FAITH we have NOW in the memories of a past long gone
...HOPE we have NOW for a future that has not yet arrived. and
.. LOVE/LIFE we have NOW to create all our future NOWS and make them better NOWS.

I agree that the NOW needs to be dealt with first. The penitent thief on the cross comes to mind.

One reason to study Genesis 1 is to realize that Jesus is not only our meek and humble Saviour, but also the Almighty Creator of the universe. Also is important to study the end of Revelation to see that Jesus will unleash His fierce wrath and Judge the world. Really puts things into their proper context.

We need to have ready answers for people who want to know what the Bible says/means.

And the answers have to be the truth.

The truth that all people, believers and unbelievers will understand.

Thats a good question was Adam created as a one day old child or a fully grown one day old man.

to me, the story implies that Adam was created at least 13 years "old"

so, the universe was created billions of years "old"

Its a possibility.

But it would be quite meaningless to create scars on Adam´s body that never happened. Or traces of broken arm in childhood that never happened.

Earth is full of such "scars" from its past... like the impacts of meteorites, for example.

Hi trofimus,

I disagree that it's meaningless
ECCLESIASTES 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

I dont think this verse is about creating a "false" history that never happened :)

But as I said, its a possibility... and its practically impossible to prove if it is true or not...

Its similar with a theory we are living in a simulation, you cant prove or disprove it, its only what you believe about it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I believe the Moon is all the more beautiful for all its 'scars'. Having said this, it is not really important what our little pea-brains think is meaningful, meaningless, beautiful, or ugly. All that matters is what the Bible says.

To defend an old earth is to defend evolution and then you can basically join atheism.
ah yes, the age of rocks vs. the Rock of ages. Carbon dating is their key "science" although no consideration taken regarding the enormity of the atmospheric change after the flood which can easily skew carbon results...

What the bible says. A book translated from a foreign language written in a far distant land at a far distant time, No way to know the context, whether meant metaphorically or historically. And then the pea brains who think they know what it means and take it literally and how many actually KILL their fellow man because they believe that bible is instructing them to do so?

hundreds of so called christian denominations telling each other they are going to hell for not following the denomination of their choice. What was it Jesus said. Many will come in my name and I will say to them on that day. Depart from me for I knew you not.

God does not judge us for He had given Christ that authority, and Christ does not judge us for the Son of God came into the world to save the world not to condemn it. But we will be judge by every Word tat Jesus Spoke. We will hear those words and judge OURSELVES when we are no longer able to hide from the truth or justify our evil doing.
Jesus has no wrath to unleash on the world, though evil men project that, Jesus loves us and like His Father in heaven desires only our salvation.

The answers are so simple a child can understand, like obey the golden rule. Love what is true right and love others. And do it now because now is the only time we have. Simple. It is only when men want to do something that they know is not right that they ask questions like "What is Truth" and "Who is my neighbor" ... Jesus said "Love your enemy" so what is the relevance of asking who your neighbor is? Just to justify doing evil?

I wonder how many who believe that everything was created in six literal days also agree with Peter that a thousand years is as a day and use this verse to work out how long we all have left before the second coming. because to be consistent one would come to the conclusion that it took God 6,000 years to create everything and it has now been around 13000 years since he first started if you include the Sabbath day when he rested. Just musing.

Those of us who believe that everything was created in 6 literal days also do not believe that it has been 6000 years... if each day of Creation is literal.

A day is as 1000 years, and 1000 years is as a day simply means that God stands outside of time and has no bearing on equivocation in terms of literal history. In terms of how it can be applied after the fact is something entirely different.

There is no wrath coming to the world? That contradicts clear and defined scripture.
God desires that every man be saved, but not all will choose to accept Him and His sacrifice for us.

how about a bit more musing - do you also accept that forty flood days were forty thousand years - some flood but only local according to some - wincam

Why not... I just dont see how layers upon layers of ancient life that has never existed is a beauty, for example :)

There's so much misinformation in this post of yours, I don't know where to start.
