I think that's a good plan. Go in 5 lb increments. You'll be there by the end of the month.
Make sure to get your beauty sleep.
I'll be going after 5 plates for the deadlift this friday or saturday too.

475 came off the floor pretty easy last time. Had to use straps, though. Grip started failing at 5th rep of 405 and completely failed at 425.

Always something to work on. And when you are concentrating on that something else suffers a little for lack of attention...

Deadlift day was yesterday.

Got 5 plates off the floor up to my knees but couldn't lock it out.

I have some excuses.

1.) I wasn't feeling good that day. (I got this one from the movie Strange Brew...) This one is mandatory to be used if you lose to a younger sibling in anything...

2.) I was working the night shift the night before.

3.) I didn't get enough sleep.

4.) I was distracted.

There are lots of excuses to use for being too weak to do something. All of them are funny in their own way.

I feel good about my progress. No excuses. I'm just not there yet. That's why I train. To get there one day.

Now to get those stubborn bench numbers up...

I've lost 50-55 lbs in the last year, not exactly sure which. Still have a long way to go. I have hit the proverbial wall for the last few months. As I told my nutritionist, i'm not surprised or frustrated. I know this is a marathon not a sprint. My ability to workout is hampered greatly by my physical condition. The weight loss has been due primarily to eating changes. So she and I will continue working toward the goal I have set. Glad I came across this thread. Every little bit helps. God bless y'all, have a great day.

To stay in shape I eat two dumbbells a day (they are a good source of iron, but unfortunately bad for the teeth), for chest I go to sleep with five blankets on top of me (it's quite a weight for my chest to hold up while I sleep), and for cardio I run after the ice cream truck as it drives away down my street (its like a marathon sometimes).

I better stop talking, I am giving away too many of my workout secrets!!!

If anyone wants more of my training tips, email me at [email protected]

Just kidding y'all. I wish everyone here all the best regarding their training, and that you all reach your exercise goals!

Stay strong!

I just watched a youtube video about the marine corps physical fitness test. The guy on the video did 22 pull-ups, 100 sit-ups in 1 minute, 40 seconds and ran 3 miles in 21 minutes on a hot humid day. I think I'll just put my head down now and cry... :(

That's how I started back into physical fitness. My son was joining the marines and preparing for his physical fitness test. So I decided I would see if I could get into shape to qualify as well.

The running was the hardest part...

You are on the right track with body weight exercises.

You should have 20-30 extra seconds each day to do your planks...

Pretty soon that's going to be 3-4 minutes...

Just started a new 30 day shred. I felt like The Rock in The Game Plan after he tried a ballet workout for the first time lol.

Does anyone work specifically on grip strength?

What types of exercises do you do?

I just ordered some captains of crush grippers but I was wondering if there were other ways people improve their grip strength.

I don't. The gripper you ordered is the only thing I know of, so I'm not much help lol.

I'm still doing my shred, so I've been trying to keep a good mix of cardio and strength training in each workout. I tend to change my routine a lot, but I've been able to lift heavier over the last month or so while keeping my reps the same. Progress is good. It keeps you going.

Just got back from swimming...I forgot how enjoyable it is!
I'm tempted to go ahead and buy a membership to the pool, but I'll have to mull it over.

Started training for a powerlifting meet today.

The program I'm using is called the Texas Method. I've modified it a little so I only do powerlifting moves and no complicated weightlifting moves like the power clean, which require a whole bunch of technique that I'm not ready for.

I was looking for something that would get me used to and ready for doing squats then bench then deadlift all in the same workout. Which is what happens at a powerlifting meet.

Mondays are volume day, 5x5 at 90% 5rm. Wednesdays are a light day/ recovery day 2x5 @ 72% 5rm. Friday is intensity day with 5rm + 5lbs.

5rm is 5 rep max...

Whoa, this is the topic I need! I am so unfit. I mean, I'm "skinny", but that's not all there is to fitness I know. I have so little will power, though. Any suggestions? I'm mean other than "just get your lazy butt up and do it!" :p

It takes 2 or 3 weeks to start a habit.

So you really only need to structure your workouts and be 'disciplined' for a couple weeks.

After that you will want to workout and feel weird when you don't.
