It takes 2 or 3 weeks to start a habit.

So you really only need to structure your workouts and be 'disciplined' for a couple weeks.

After that you will want to workout and feel weird when you don't.
Well, I guess I'll just have to make myself stick with it for that long.

So should I eat something before I start the routine everyday, or should that come after?

It depends on your workout and how you feel about it.

If you are going to be doing a lot of cardio and you just feel really depleted if you don't eat prior then you probably should eat before.

If you are doing intense weight lifting and eating before upsets your stomach then you should eat after.

I don't really think it matters too much one way or the other. Do whats best for you.


I don't like to eat before a workout. I get heartburn and upset stomach. But right after a workout I'm chowing down...

Got in some pretty good work this morning. I've been slacking a little bit. Been dealing with a hand injury for a couple of months now. It hasn't seemed to heal much, so idk what's going on with that. I can fight thru most things, but push-ups are a literal pain lol. I've put on about 9 pounds this summer, but a good 9 pounds.

@Grandpa Good luck with your training for the powerlifting meet! Let us know how it goes.

Since this is the fitness thread. I suppose theres no better place to post this. I had an appointment with my nutritionist last friday. We figured up that ive lost at lest 62 lbs this last year, WOOHOO!
Congrats jb! Well done.

Pffft, that's nuthin... i can put on 9 pounds in a week! Booyaah!!

You probably need to take a bunch of tums to make it through the night after that meal.

I read that Ryan Lochte's Olympic training diet consists of 7000 calories a day. Lots of pasta.
Where does all of that go?!

I don't know who that is, but Micheal Phelps said he consumed 10,000 calories a day when he was training for the olympics back when he won all those medals. He was training 8 hours a day. Its not really that much considering how many calories he burns per hour of training plus what his body burns at rest with that fast metabolism.

So I guess I just need to train 5 hours a day to lose weight... :confused:

Pot pipes help too...hehehe...it also makes you hungrier when you use it...hmmm......

So I'm back on early morning workouts, hurrah.

I was so sore today I had to really brace myself to get up from chairs.

I did front squats last week for the first time in about a year and could barely walk for 4 days...

I wouldn't have thought that they were that much different than back squats, which I have been doing for about a year and a half.

Well, I was wrong...

Grandpa, that soreness is no joke. 4 days! What's your method for relief?

I've just been stretching a lot today at work and I'm still kind of stiff. I'm going to use my foam roller when I get home, and hit the gym pool for an hour if it doesn't storm. I don't want to start skipping morning workouts because it's too easy to make that a pattern.

The only method that works for me is to stay moving.

Whenever I would sit for any length of time the soreness would get worse.

For soreness relief naturally; no harmful over the counter stuff or prescription meds:

Systemic enzymes on a empty stomach (fast acting)
montana arnica
fish oil
essential oils (fast acting)
DMG amino acid (takes a while to work though)
papain
resveratrol (takes a while to work)
bentonite clay (takes a while to work)

And stay away from processed foods and animal foods for a day or two.

Giving up meat for days is just not going to happen, Joseph. I'm not about that life.

I am feeling a lot more normal now though! 15 minutes using a stretch training machine, foam rolling, and a power nap works miracles. Now i am feeling the good kind of sore and less of the stiff almost painful soreness.

You have time. Your only 30. It won't affect you until your late 30's or early 40's.
Maybe even mid to late 40's if you have good genes.
I didn't give it up until I was 34.
Saved my life; praise God for showing me the way.

I picked up two bags of cement and put them in a chest-high trash bin. My back was sore for like 30 minutes. Not the good kind of sore either..

Now I'm using that as a reason not to workout tonight... yupp, that's the reason. :rolleyes:

Did arms/shoulders this morning. Some of the stuff I do that made me work a month ago is becoming quite easy, so I need to up the weight. I also had one of the best runs I've had in a while. Being able to pick up the pace and still have my breathing and heart rate under control was good.
