There are differing views on this, as you can see from the above. My view is that the term 'tithe' (tenth part, whether "one of ten" or "every tenth as you count off") belongs to the OT law, and that any contribution to a congregation these days is properly called an offering, not a tithe. Further, I believe (from Scripture) that Christians are not at all required or even encouraged to "tithe" (that is, give ten percent of their income). I don't like using the word 'tithe' today because it confuses the idea of offering with the idea of 10%.

What I do believe is that we as Christians are to support the work of the Church, regularly and according to our income, and without compulsion. If you are unable to pay your bills and contribute to your church, pay your bills first. God knows your needs, and "tithing" isn't one of them.
I don't like using the word 'tithe' today because it confuses the idea of offering with the idea of 10% I don't know how/when we've come to the point in church history where a "tithe" can mean whatever % of your income you want it to be.

Give 5¢ on $50 and call it a tithe(which means tenth).
Give $45 on $50 and call it a tithe(which means tenth).

Huh?!

First, too many churches are teaching 1 tithe(when there are at least 3 types mentioned in the O.T.). Then, people make a tithe whatever % they want, when it actually means 10%.

You've been lied to by hirelings that refuse God's truths, see all my threads. See sites below. Will the 'church' ever wake up? In a word....nope.
when a sleeper tells a person who is already awake to wake up they find out their dreaming.
Your threads are not God's truth and they are made with bitterness hurt anger and un forgiveness and it's because of this that no one listens

And here men that die receive tithes; but there He receives them, of whom it is witnessed that He lives. Hebrews 7:8 NKJV

Hebrews 7 states that Lord Jesus Christ is our High Priest who lives forever. He receives your tithes in heaven. Tithe means 10% gross.

The word of God always say bring the tithe. It never says give because you can't give what does not belong to you. Give means offering. According to the bible there is only two things you can do with a tithe - You can bring it to Gods house or you can steal it.

While the tithe is mandatory, the offering is voluntary. We determine the amount of the offering, and it is from the heart. But an offering is never an offering until we have given the full tithe.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 NIV
Dear brother, please recognize that the part in bold is part of the Old Testament, not the New. We as believers in Christ are not under the OT law; rather, we are made complete and acceptable to God in Christ... and only in Christ. Paul's letter to the Galatians makes clear that adding the actions of following the OT law to faith in Christ actually takes us out of God's grace.

As to your quote from Hebrews 7, the point of that passage is the supremacy of Christ. It makes no assertion about continuing to tithe income; rather it mentions a one-time tithe of war spoils in the context of Genesis 14.

I tried throwing tithes up into the air toward heaven one time and it all came falling back to earth. So how do YOU get them up there. Thanks.
When a Believer faith is maintained exclusively in Christ and His Finished Work, i.e., The Cross, i.e., The Blood of Jesus...you will see Matthew 6:33 overflowing in your life.

I always like 10% because it makes it so that I am paying God back not only in money but in thanks that I even have a job!

Tithing was a part of the Law of Moses. The giving of 10% tithing was for the Jewish people only.

We are not under the Law today. You can tithe what you can tithe. The amount or percentage is up to you. You can tithe 10% or 1% or any amount you can afford. Its NOT the amount we tithe that counts, its the fact we tithe what we we can afford.

If all you can afford is one dollar a week, then tithe that amount. Its not the amount God looks at, its the fact of our tithing that God see's, not the total amount.
Tithing was a part of the Law of Moses. The giving of 10% tithing was for the Jewish people only. Except they were responsible for 3 types of tithes. Levitical, Poor, and Festival tithes, so it added up to far more than 10%.

You can tithe 10% or 1% or any amount you can afford. No, you can't. A tithe is 10% and 10% only. 1% is not a tithe. A person can give or offer 1%, but that's not a tithe(a tenth, 10%).

Tithe = 10%.

A tithe is not whatever % we give, but only 10%.

And also, what became of the rest of the spoils? And did Abraham have them exchanged somewhere for cash value?

And also, I guess we shall go to war so we can get spoils to give to the church?

In these passages (Luke 16:9-13), Jesus is saying that irrespective of how loudly and how often we profess our Godliness, if it does not show up in our practical, every day living, and especially in the matters of money, and our responsibility toward others, our profession is vain. This statement is plain and clear, if we are unfaithful in these things. "Who will commit to our trust the true riches?"

Levels of faith: (many other examples in the bible)

Great faith - Matthew 8:5-10
Unfeigned faith - II Timothy 1:5
Wavering faith - James 1:5-7
Perfect faith - James 2:22
Rich faith - James 2:5
Full of faith - Acts 6:1-5
Little Faith - Matthew 6:25-34, Matthew 14:25-31
No faith - Mark 4:35-40

If love is not our motivation, whatever we give equals zero and amounts to nothing (1 Corinthians 13:3 NKJV). When we perform and try to meet the demands of the Law, we fall under the curse of trying to get God to “do” something (Galatians 3:10-14). The concept of giving and tithing is not based on money itself, it is about trust. When we give, it is no longer just giving money—it is authenticating our love and trust in God. Luke 16: 9-13 NKJV

Now. What have i ever said that was not God's truth? Just give us all one example. That's all. Just one. Just casting stones does not support your attack.

That passage speaks about faithful administration, not adherence to the Old Covenant. Tithing because the OT says to tithe has nothing whatsoever to do with good administration (though it is often perceived as such), and not tithing because we aren't under the OT law has nothing to do with poor administration. New Covenant, period. :)

We r not to give a dime one way or the other without being 'led of the Spirit.' You can get into a lot of trouble by simply obeying man and his lust.

Proverbs 3:9-10 Amplified Bible (AMP)

9 Honor the Lord with your wealth
And with the first fruits of all your crops (income);
10 Then your barns will be abundantly filled
And your vats will overflow with new wine.

Oh stop being so thick. If a group of Christians has come together to accomplish the goal of expanding the Kingdom, and they have determined they need certain basic resources to accomplish this.... then it is the right and responsible thing to do to share the expenses incurred. That is all a sharing of costs they refer to as "tithing" is about at the vast majority of churches. Despite your desperate desire to make it sound like some preacher demands the members pay a certain amount, not a single person here says they attend such an assembly. But you keep trying, hollering and ranting about poor widows being robbed blind.

You and this new member, MOTC, may have been foolish enough to seek out a church where that happened, but none of us seem to attend churches like that.

I think you misspelled thick...

The Westboro Baptists don't say a word that isn't found right there in the scriptures, either.......... The thing is, your heart attitude when you do the quoting.
