Christians are always trying to pick and choose what parts of the Bible they like. You can't pick and choose. The Bible is God's Word and those who don't obey it are willfully sinning. I've been paying tithes since I was a teenager and God has always provided for me and made sure I was able to get money. I struggled for 2 years and then God answered my prayer and my finances are restored. If you take care of God's house he take care of yours. Besides 10% is not that much especially if God has blessed you with enough money. James1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. God wants to bless his children, but we must obey him in everything we do. There are many promises in the Word of God, but we have to meet the conditions to get those blessings. James 1:4-8 talks about asking God for wisdom. Hosea4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. 2Chronicles7:14 If my people who are called by name will humble themselves and pray, and turn from their wicked ways. Then will I hear from heaven forgive their sins and heal their land. America was once a Godly nation, but now we live in society that rejects God and doesn't want anything to do with God. We're living in wicked times. The Body of Christ can not be silent. We must stand up to evil, and defend the truth (the Gospel). I believe that in the last days God will raise up a remnant of believers who will preach the true Gospel and will not bow down to Satan and this wicked world system (Babylon). Its time for Christians to stop being afraid. Walk in the power and authority that God has given us in the name of Jesus over Satan and his demonic forces. 2Cor 10:3-4 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. Also read and study Ephesians6:10-18 which talks about putting on the whole armour of God to defeat Satan and his demonic forces. To God be the glory. Preacha24-7

seems if you need to ask maybe theres a larger issue that needs addressed, the Almighty doesn't need our money, He wants US, our greatest asset is our time, give Him more of that , he will guide and lead you according to His word ... Trust in Him not man.

It's funny, though, in how more and more young adults are living at home due to not being able to find a job in their field immediately after graduating college. That, and the fact student loans suck the life out of us, and they're often about the same price as monthly rent.
...and what degree are they graduating with...that can be quite interesting....

In my church there is no tithing - each member prays for God's guidance in determining the amount of support, then puts the money in an envelope (with no senders name) and drops it in a collection box. After the service the collection box is opened in the presence of at least four members and the total amount is logged in a book.

Members who are going through financial problems are advised not to contribute at all.
What type(or denomination) is the church?

Galatians 3:3, 5 ... Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

2 Corinthians 1:20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Him [Christ] they are yes....

Your post contains many disjointed Bible verses, but there is no clear logical argument supporting tithing. If you want to tithe, that's between you and God. If you want to support it biblically, you're going to need some basis more solid than the verses you've quoted. You want to claim that we need to obey everything God says? Okay then, the last time you "tithed", did you give your tithe to a Levite? No? Then you're disobeying God, by your own logic. The sharp sword of the Word cuts both ways. :)

Ok, this is a very touchy subject for a lot of Christians. I have been praying about tithing, for years I did this. I made the mistake of talking to some people that are emphatic tithers and gave me their emotional advice, and quoted that scripture "how are you robbing me" etc...., I searched the internet and received both sides, finally I started reading my bible from the beginning and praying, when I got to Leviticus, Deut, the Lord made my answer very clear to me through reading His word and praying. Most people will use if you don't pay tithes that God will not bless you financially.. In Matthew 6: Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. Please search this out with God and His Word....He will bring clarity to your question and guess what God is the interpreter of His own Word. He will never lead you astray. God bless you in your journey with the Lord Jesus.

And also, what became of the rest of the spoils? And did Abraham have them exchanged somewhere for cash value?

And also, I guess we shall go to war so we can get spoils to give to the church?
Actually, most of the spoils were returned to the king of Sodom, as recorded in Gen. 14:21-24.
Didn't word my response real well.

Yes, that's what happened with Abram's share of the spoils. He gave his share back to the king. Hence, he kept nothing.

If we're going to teach tithing and use Gen 14, shouldn't we be demanding all instead of a tenth?

Also out of sync with tithing preaching when referencing Gen 14:

-Abram gave on war spoils, not on earning from an occupation/job/profession.

-Abram gave spoils, not cash.

Isn't this a more honest approach when we don't cherry-pick the chapter?

If people will read Leviticus and Deuteronomy where tenth/tithe/tithing is discussed, they'll learn some interesting things about tithing O.T. style.

As it is, it seems Mal 3:10, Gen 14, and Gen 28 are the ones people are most familiar with. :-/

I chuckle when people try to use Gen 28 in support of tithing. Basically, Jacob made a deal with God on his own terms, and promised God a tenth at the end. It's another example of making doctrine from narrative... usually a questionable practice at best. :)

Shall we put God in a box and say he only works this way and that way, I know a lot of people who tithe and have tithed including myself. I believe the Lord honors it and it teaches us to give with a right heart. It's not a salvation issue but a personal one. To some it's a faithful step in trust as it's not out of abundance but gladness.

Is it right for us to pay taxes to the emperor or not?

While this was a trick question, I think what we can learn from Jesus' response is that we are to follow our obligations here on earth (as long as they don't directly conflict with God's word), and then give to God what we can, (This doesn't have to be money.... most churches are in need of people to help with those "invisible" tasks, like bringing fresh flowers for the altar, cleaning, doing the dishes after coffee gatherings etc)

You judge me falsely. Will you ever quit? Sounds like u r bitter.

Now. What have i ever said that was not God's truth? Just give us all one example. That's all. Just one. Just casting stones does not support your attack.
Sorry yet I was pretty busy lately so could not respond to you. I do not judge you as it was never my place to judge I do however show you where you are in the wrong and try to help you understand why my only hope for you is that you realize the heavy chains you have put yourself in. Many have already given up on you and some even mock you and are rude to you but I have not given up on you though sometimes I truly wish I had the heart to do so but God for some reason keeps giving me the urge to try to help you see it actually is quite a burden but love is long suffering.

I have never once thought myself better than you or anyone else and if you see my correction and my advice as casting stones or judging so be it so long as I finally break through that hardened heart of yours.

You always ask for an example of your not speaking God's truth and it has been given many times you just refuse to accept and see it

Every time I see the topic of tithes it reminds me of an old Kingsmen song.

Excuses
