I adopted my dog a few years ago.
At first I though I was never going to really like her. She smelled, and had no idea of what obedience is. She was overweight, and just plain inactive almost to the point of doubling for a door-stop.
At first I gave her dog food, dry. It did not seem to satisfy her, so I started giving her canned, and she did respond somewhat.
Not yet happy with her eating habits, I started cooking some for her. She loves lentils. Now I give her dry food in a bowl for when she want it and I give her what I cook for her plus table scraps, and she is like a puppy though the shelter told me she was over ten years old.
She has a tendency to train me when I try to train her. I wind up doing what she wants most of the time.
Now she tries to obey, but much of the time she just is not certain of what to do, and I have come to love her more and more even because of this fault (perceived as such by an observer.)
I know she really loves me, and I really love her, so even when she makes big blunder, I just love her more and she seems to understand that she does not totally understand.
Her love for me is teching me how to love God even more. She is a gift of love from our FAther, imperfect as she is, and I have come to love spoiling her, faults and all. Praise God, amen. j
