genesis 1:26-27 "Then GOD SAID, “Let us make mankind in OUR IMAGE, in OUR LIKENESS, SO THAT THEY MAY RULE over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. So God created mankind in HIS OWN IMAGE, in the IMAGE OF GOD HE created them; MALE and FEMALE he created them."

romans 8:29 "For those God foreknew, He also PREDESTINED to be CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF HIS SON , so that He would be the FIRSTBORN among many brothers."

ephesians 1:5 "He PREDESTINED US FOR ADOPTION AS HIS SONS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST, according to the good pleasure of His will"

2 corinthians3:18 "And we, who with unveiled faces all REFLECT the glory of the Lord, are being TRANSFORMED INTO HIS IMAGE with increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."

romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but BE TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind. Then YOU WILL BE ABLE to test and approve what God's will is--HIS good, pleasing and perfect WILL."

Romans 13:12 "Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make NO PROVISION for the desires of the flesh."

colossians 1:15-18 "The SON IS THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD, the FIRSTBORN over all creation. For IN HIM all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; ALL THINGS have been created THROUGH HIM AND FOR HIM . He is before ALL THINGS, and IN HIM ALL THINGS hold together. And HE IS the head of the body, the CHURCH; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that IN EVERYTHING HE might HAVE THE SUPREMACY."

john 14:9 "Jesus replied, "Philip, I have been with you all this time, and still you do not know Me? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?"

hebrews 1:3 "THE SON is the RADIANCE OF God's glory and the EXACT REPRESENTATION OF HIS BEING, sustaining all things by HIS POWERFUL WORD. After HE had provided purification for sins, HE sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

these are only a few scriptures on this subject, the point of bringing them up is to show that the goal of the gospel is to make the disciples, into the image of Jesus, who is the image of God. Adam was made in Goids image, then became a sinner, and His descendants were no longer made in Gods likeness. Jesus restores this through Faith. Adam had a personal relationship with God, as so many christians speak of christianity bieng. Thats why we have so many references of " reconciliation" remember to reconcile, a relationship had to be broken. references Like " redeemed" remember redeeming slaves is to purchase them from slavery. Just as Adams transgression made us slaves to sin, Jesus Sets us free, because He is able to die for every sinner, which is the penalty for sin under the first covenant. When the sentance of death is imposed, the Laws authority has ended.

We are saved by the Gospel that transforms us into the image of Gods Children By Faith in Jesus Christ His Only begotten Son, the One who is transforming sinners, into the image of God through repentance and Faith that Trusts Jesus and His Gospel of salvation for Man, the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. Learn about Jesus Christ and Understand that He is Life, everything He did, and taught, who He was, How much He suffered on your personal behalf as well as anyone who will believe. Jesus Is Worthy of full commitment, His offer of eternal Life will never fail us. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are where you will find Jesus, as He presented Himself to the world. God Bless you as you learn about your Savior Jesus who is Christ, and The Son of God.

The Old Testament says Adam was made in the image of God.
The New Testament says Adam was made in the image of Christ.
The image of God,is the image of Christ,an innocent nature in flesh.

God made Adam in the image that he would show up in the future, the Word,God manifest in the flesh, which God calls things that have not happened yet,as though they already happened, like the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world.

Since Adam was made in the image of Christ, then the man Christ Jesus has to be part of the,let us make man in our image, which the man Christ Jesus can already be considered as being in the beginning, for if it is a plan of God to happen in the future,it is the same as if it happened in the beginning.

After Adam and Eve sinned, nobody was in the image of God until Jesus restored that image, and all who have the Spirit, for then it is an innocent nature in flesh,to soon be an innocent nature in a glorified body.

We conform to the image of the Son,by allowing the Spirit to lead us,the power source of why the Son could do the will of God properly.

Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. John 9:32

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; Genesis 3:7

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: Gen 3:8

Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. John 9:3

This is the written account of Adam’s family line. When God created mankind, HE MAD THEM IN THE LIKENESS OF GOD. 2He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind”[SUP]a[/SUP] when they were created.

Thats why you have scriptures referring to the sons of God, and the daughters of men. Its infact the reason Jesus Came to restore what Adam Gave away. The image of God, is Holiness, or what the gog folks refer to as imputed righteousness. Through the Gospel, we are created in the image of Jesus. Who is the image of God. it really doesnt need much =explaination if people accept the scripture.

Adam consumned the knowledge of Good and evil, we all Know God is not in the image of good and evil, God is Good alone. as was adam before He sinned. "and God sae all he had created and it was very good. if a person considers that adam fell through the knowledge of evil, and notices He was then removed from the Garden of eden immediately, obviously something changed. and obviously the gospel is about reconciling man to God. about NEW birth. thats whyu we are taught to die through the gospel, and be raised through the same. its why Jesus said " you must be born again. notice in genesis adam loses the right to eat from the tree of Life...and then in the end of revelation you have

revelation 22:14 "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city"

do a study in the new testament regarding believers being made into the image of Jesus Christ. paul teaches much about it and it is found elsewhere as well. its about sinners, being made righteous. all were sinners through adam, all will be made righteous through Christ.

My understanding is that progeny of Adam were begotten in Adam's image:

Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image;

same way I see it. adam had children after He became a sinner. His children were born in that image. just to look at cain His first child kind of proves cain wasnt Gods image, He was the first mudrerer.....after adam and eve sinned They were no longer the image of a holy and perfect God. That is a purpose of the Gospel. we are born again through Christ, and created through Him from the inside out. He is our example, Our teacher, the one we learn from and seek after. Gods goal through Faith in Christ is to transforn the person who believes. the process is simple. If we really believe Jesus said something and then said "do this" we will do it if faith is sincere Knowing who Jesus is. that process of Faith circumsizes the heart removes the knowledge of evil we inherited through adam. that is the "flesh" we read so much about. that part of our heart that desires pleasures and self satisfaction. that corruption in mans heart that Jesus taught us to rid our selves of that part of our heart that makes us unclean

matthew 15:19-20 "For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.”

this is what the gospel is about making the inside clean and then the actions naturally follow. actions like fruit are only a product of the tree. Adam corrupted mans mind with the knowledge of good and evil, that made all born of adam, sinners with corrupt minds and hearts. simply look at How quickly we go from the garden to the flood....from the time adam ate the fruit. it is 3 chapters until God says this of mankind

genesis 6:5-7 "The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”

anyone should easily be able to understand what happened as a result of adams choice to follow the serpent rather than God. less actually than 3 chaopters we go from adams presence with God in the Garden....to the human race is now so evil, only evil all the time, and God was greived that He even made us.....We became what we are, God did not make mankind sinners, Our destiny has always been to be made into the image of Jesus Christ, His only Son......because our call is the Children of God. thus we conform to the image of Gods Son, who is the image of God. its the goal of the gospel. to " destroy the enemies work" the serpent decieved man and from that we bacame sinners....Jesus came with Grace and truth, Grace to forgive our sin, and the truth to cleanse us from sin.

sinners are born, Children of God have died to that creation, and are born again into the new and eternal

We conform to the image of the Son,by allowing the Spirit to lead us,the power source of why the Son could do the will of God properly.

What scriptures in the new testament say adam was made in the image of Christ? because i see this in the new testament

romans 5:8-11 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While WE WERE still SINNERS, Christ died FOR US.9Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received RECONCILIATION."

I would ask anyone else, How did we become sinners if not through adam who is the father of all flesh and blood? and also why is paul saying " reconciliation"? to reconcile a relationship...it had to once be a relationship, then fall apart, and then be restored. that is what the bible tells us. adam was the first man made good and holy, the image of God was adam.. Adam then disobeyed God, obeyed the enemy. at that point adam is cursed with death, and exiled from the garden. Adam FELL from His original state and all of His descendants were In that fallen oimage...thats the only reason man dies as we do. Thata why the word tells us we were held captive by Death through sin until Christ came, removing sin and death from us, RECONCILING US TO GOD, and transforming those who truly believe, into His image. We are saved through the faith that Hears Jesus, and understands Jesus is speaking the Living Words of God. Just as the Law and prophets testify He will. the first covenant is all based on adam, Jesus came and fulfilled that by dying on our behalf who beloieve. The first covenant was waiting for Jesus first coming. we in the new covenant are waiting For His second coming. when Jesus came, everything Changed Jesus changes US.

We will not be in the image of Christ until the rapture of the church, at the last trump.

1 Corinthians 15
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

agree with alot of this comment... good stuff. The spirit leading us, is connected to the words of Jesus Christ in His earthly ministry, Our faith is in Jesus, therefore His words, teachings commands ect, become active in our hearts and minds, BY Faith in the One who said these things. we believe sincerely so when we see Jesus saying " to lust in the heart, is sin...will cause the person who believes this to develope a conscience sensitive to the spirit, having the knowledge of Jesus teaching that Lust in the heart, is the root of adultery and Knowing Our Lord has told us clearly to rid ourselves of Lust will convict us through the holy spirit and in this way the word is truly powerful to effect change in a believers Life, Jesus words are indeed perfect. Faith In Jesus, can Lead no where else but to Changed Lives through His Living Word. If we learn and seek after Jesus we ourselves will see His ministry is about repentance, and His Righteousness meaning the righteousness of the Son of God, who laid down His Life to save Ours from eternal damnation. And meaning the righteousness He taught directly to His disciples, and then commanded them to go spread to all the world.

also, to me cain the first and abel the second....really shows the effect of the "good and evil" aspect of the fruit, sort of a glimpse at the immediate effects upon adam and eves descendants. shows that just as we consume food and it goes into our blood when it is broken down by our stomaches....sin became a part of the flesh of adams children, and immediately The Savior is required. man must be born again now, because the first creation has died through sin.

What is the "image" of God that we no longer are made in? Your definition of the "image of God?"

its not my issue that yopu dopnt accept the scriptures lol..."let me try this "

colossians1:15"The Son is THE IMAGE OF the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation."

My "definition" is whatever scripture defines. kind of why the op has all the scriptures saying " Jesus is the image of God, and the gospel is about transforming the believer into the Image of Jesus...who is the image of God" of coarse.....the op is neither here nor there when it comes to a person questioning Just to argue tho. probably in the op you might find the answer to your question. being that is what the op is about. Jesus is the only way to see what God looks like, and at the same exact point, what YOU are meant to Look like. Because God is making us into His image that adam corrupted and passed on to all sinners. Hopefully you can decypher your answer from this, im noit good whith demanding yes and no answers, especially when the original post makes clear " my definition" which really is the Bibles definition and the very reason people all should learn what it teaches and stick to its precepts and principles, its lessons and truths. If we all would just stick to IT...then unity and peace is easy

the image of our Maker - may we all reflect His most un-selfish and gracious Love...

Amen!

1 john 3:16-18 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."

Same principle as Jesus telling us that the judgement will be did you clothe the naked, feed the huingry, visit the lonely help One another as if were family. The words " sin, righteousness, sanctification..ect..." sometimes i think are misunderstood by some along the lones of " the Law of Moses" as of righteousness is gained by rules keeping, and imposing piety upon ourselves. This is why i say that the Law and Gospel are very different. Jesus teaches us to be " the good samaritan" to not retaliate, to give top the poor, to share with each other especially the poorest, everything He teaches is "the spirit of Godly Love" The Law teaches us to not hurt each other....The gospel goes further, it goes into not Harming each other, even when its Just to do so. Jesus teaches us to go beyond what is our business, He teaches spiritual righteousness His ministry is what we need to clothe opurselves with, His teachings, principles, His words. The More we learn of Jesus, the More we will Understand Our heavenly Father, His will for our Lives, Our true purpose and destiny comes into focus....and the more that Happens sin truly does die in Christ. Yet it is of such oimportance not to alter, change, make "better" His words, though at first He seems demanding, He truly is Gentle and Humble able to teach us lead us, support us....and truly when He sets us free of Sin, the battle is won and there truly is a place to dwell in His light as someone new, not Just a better person, but a new individual sustained By Jesus. The spirit found in the words of Jesus Christ

Hmm interesting post, in the likeness is basically meaning similar but not exactly alike., Like a carbon copy or identical.

yep, thats the idea i get I like the wording in colossians and also this from Hebrews 1:3

The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

The radiance of His glory. It makes me recall when moses would speak to God, His face would radiate Gods glory. the Image of Jesus is righteous, Godly Love, self sacrifice, holding others needs above our wants. Jesus is so Great and what sets Him apart to me, is that He already was Gods son before creation, He had eternal Life already, he died for us, to save us...for the One and only reason, God Loves us that much, God WANTS to give us etrnal Life, its His greatest desire for us...evenm when weve all done so much wrong.....Gods desire is to save us from Our sins and make us worthy of eternal Life through the Only One who is truly worthy Of it. God Loves us Just as much as He Loves Jesus. His Only Son, and through Him, we are adopted as His children. I knoe sometimes people dont Get me or take things differently as we probably all do at times....But Im just truly excited because of the things God is teaching me through His word, when we give God our effort and time, He carries us in His strength and gives us the Knowledge we need as we grow and need it..Just AWESOME is the Lord !
