A few years ago I was working on a rose farm a few km outside the city. I was having a busy day so I worked through lunch. I remembered that my fuel gauge was indicating that it was time for a top up, but I knew that the earliest I'd leave work would be at 6pm. I was in a Shakespeare play that week at our local theatre so I didn't want any delays as this place was on the other end of town. Factor in traffic and there isn't must time for anything else.
One of our workshop guys was going to buy some diesel for the standby generator at a filling station located some 5km from the farm. This place was not on my way as it was further out of town. I needed to be able to make a beeline for the theatre as soon as I locked my office later that day. So I grabbed a jerrycan from the storeroom and asked the guy to get me 20 litres petrol for my car. Half an hour later he returned and asked for my key. He then poured the liquid into my tank and returned my key. At the end of the day i was getting into my car when I saw the guy walking by. I said, "Thanks for getting the petrol." He replied "Diesel. I got you diesel."

Thankfully I hadn't started the car. At the time I was driving an old Pajero and we had to remove the tank, drain out the now contaminated fuel. Send the guy back for some petrol, because NOW my tank was empty!
They cleaned out the tank as best they could, put it back and put petrol in. In the meantime I was getting frantic calls from the theatre. Curtain was going up in a few minutes. They had to get some guy to take my spot in the first scene (an Asian looking guy whose scene was a lot later) I got there in time for my next scene. I only achieved this by
dressing into my costume at the farm (I was unhappy with the theatres laundry so I had it dry cleaned. So a number of motorist did a double take when they saw this "Roman brother" - we were doing
"Julius Caesar"driving a Pajero at breakneck speed. This must have confused the many high school literature students who were part of the audience. But what annoyed me most was that I should have put more fuel ON MY WAY TO WORK.
Today my fuel level never goes below quarter tank.
