immaterial to my point.

"the POTUS can unilaterally determine national threats and detain any person or any broad class of people"

is certainly an argument that justifies concentration camps instituted by the decision and opinion of a single man, and that premise has nothing at all to do with involvement of congress, in fact, the comment i replied to left congress completely out of the loop when he said that the POTUS has the right to make such determinations and take such actions unilaterally.
Of course that is theoretically possible.... which is why it is so important to elect a president that you believe would never DO that.

It is also the main reason behind the 2nd Amendment.... if your government becomes a tyranny, it is the right and responsibility of the citizens to take it out.

is this legitimate?

View attachment 165671

just asking. i stay away from the news these days.

from post # 138

"is this legitimate?"

Why would you post something and ask if it's legitimate?

Why wouldn't you check it first, before posting?

Maybe we post before checking because we DON'T WANT TO KNOW if it's false?

I checked it... it took an entire 5 seconds.

Are we all so afraid of the truth... that we can't give the truth 5 seconds of our time?

FACT CHECK:

1. Trump DID say the above things, in a humorous context, and in different parts of the speech. These sentences were clipped together from different places, and taken out of context.

A. It's not a bad idea to make jokes if half your crowd is probably hostile.
B. I'm not going to account for the quality, or the propriety, of these jokes... but making a joke, in itself, isn't inherently evil.

C. If you don't like the jokes, that's fine. But let's at least take everything in context, and look at things fairly.

2. These quotes were cut from different places, and cobbled together OUT OF CONTEXT... WHILE IGNORING EVERYTHING SERIOUS THAT HE SAID.

This was obviously done with intention, and malice, to make him look like an oaf.

I get it.

Nicely done.

3. Then these HUMOROUS STATEMENTS from Trump were juxtaposed next to A SERIOUS STATEMENT from Obama's speech... carefully avoiding anything STUPID Obama said in his speech.

We didn't pick out any humor, or stupidity, from Obama's speech... we only cherry picked a particular thing that sounded really presidential.

4. I could just as easily make Obama look stupid by CREATING THIS SAME MEME IN REVERSE:
using a serious statement from Trump's speech, and a STUPID statement from Obama's speech...
and then placing them side-by-side to make Obama look like an idiot.

If someone wants to send me the above photos without a text overlay... I'll show everyone how easy, and fast, this would be.

We could easily just cut different text, and do this whole meme in reverse.

Couldn't anyone figure this out just by looking at the meme?
Isn't this just obvious???
Really?

5. The parts LEFT OUT of this meme were significant:
there were about 2 pages of text, where Trump spoke about religious freedom... a very serious and intelligent sounding speech.

6. Here is the beginning of the TWO PAGES OF SERIOUS SPEECH... the part the meme left out.

"I was blessed to be raised in a churched home. My mother and father taught me that to whom much is given, much is expected. I was sworn in on the very Bible from which my mother would teach us as young children, and that faith lives on in my heart every single day.The people in this room come from many, many backgrounds. You represent so many religions and so many views. But we are all united by our faith, in our creator and our firm knowledge that we are all equal in His eyes. We are not just flesh and bone and blood, we are human beings with souls. Our republic was formed on the basis that freedom is not a gift from government, but that freedom is a gift from God."

Conclusion:

A. This meme was just stupid... stupid and misleading.

B. We need to check things BEFORE POSTING THEM... let's GIVE THE TRUTH 5 SECONDS OF OUR TIME.

C. I'm not calling Trump a great Christian, I don't know anything about his personal faith...
but I AM saying this meme was stupid, and we need to fact-check things before posting.

Posthuman,

I think everyone around here generally likes you and appreciates you.
So I'm not personally after YOU for posting something without fact-checking.
I have no problem with you.
EVERYONE else does the same thing.
Everyone, on all sides, does this.
But how about we All try to fact-check things before we post?

I think everyone, on all sides, can do better.

so instead of being prepared and relevant, we have a president who speaks what's on his mind.

and what's on his mind is not the scripture, but about the ratings of a show he still derives income from as an executive producer. so he effectively asked that people pray he becomes richer.

this is how people say Trump is "
bringing Christ back to the white house" ?
Yes it is a sad day when the a man in his position is more concerned with Arnold Schwarzeneggers ratings than the real
problems facing the US and the world at large. I wish he would take up Arnolds offer and switch jobs.

I wonder how much money he had to give to Donald Trump for saying that on camera?

Posthuman's Meme

Posthuman,

I want to apologize for questioning your motives previously.
I don't think you were trying to be deceptive about anything.
Sorry about that.

1. I still think the meme was stupid

(I think the guy who CREATED IT was being intentionally deceptive.)

2. I still think we should try to check things before posting

All of us, on all sides, need to do better at this.

3. And obviously... we still disagree on a lot, lol.

That's just gonna happen.

4. But I don't think you were trying to be deceptive.

In political debates I just run into SO MANY people being INTENTIONALLY DECEPTIVE...
I guess my antennae just stay on high alert.

Unfortunately, politics and media these days are just all about lies, and trickery, and deception.
I guess it's always been that way, but it's just dialed up to such an EXTREME LEVEL NOW.
There's just so much of it I think it kinda poisons us.
The political climate is just utterly toxic.

We even have a few people right here on this forum, that really DO try to be deceptive.
But I don't think that's what you're about.

God Bless,
and I look forward to deconstructing your arguments a bit more politely.
: )

It's really to soon to grade him. He's doing what he said he was going to do, I don't care for Steve Bannon and I think he has a huge influence over Trump and that scares me. Honestly I will not be surprised if at some point they use a nuclear weapon and that scares me too. In fact as of now I'm pretty afraid of what we're in for here.

Yes,for the life of me,I can't understand what they see that's CHRIST like about President Trump and If I ask them what they see about him that's CHRIST like, almost like clockwork they will deflect by changing the subject to the negatives of Clinton or Obama.

I'm a little scared about that too.
Many people I know are afraid of this scenario. I know I'll get called a snowflake for saying this, but I don't care. I'm also worried what he'll do to the environment. I care about our planet and think God gave us a responsibility in protecting the beauty he gave us. I can see climate change where I live. We used to have very cold snowy winters, the last couple of years I and many others have noticed the change. Right now we have snow, but in January we had 55 to 60 degree days. This is a major change. Usually by this time ice fishing is going on. The lake isn't even frozen yet.

We we need to take care of the environment as much as we can. We shouldn't leave a huge mess for future generations to clean up, that's just not right.

That's a reasonable response.By a show of hands, who thinks President Trump demonstrates GODly traits?

Don't deflect the question If you Intend to respond to this post.

:)Maybe that would have been a good polling question.
