Many people have a practice of telling people what they want to hear, thus making themselves very popular and rising to the top of church and government organizations. Does the Lord approve of this?

Often times what we don't want to hear is what we need to hear and I am guilty of lacking in this area but I also don't approve of ear ticklers. Jesus didn't tell people what they wanted to hear and because he didn't he changed the world

Why not combine this thread with your "Church" thread? They are basically one in the same are they not?

Just wondering............

The "Church" thread was about gearing ourselves to serve our churches. This thread is about social climbing.

doing what is right comes at a cost, when people don't want to hear what contradicts their way of life and thinking they cut the message at the root

Same difference........right? This one is just about folks who take the wrong approach to congregational worship.......what's in it for them approach.......as opposed to what they can do for the congregation...........same difference, just different perspective/direction........right?

Anyway...........as I said on the other thread.............The Church MUST serve the members, and the members MUST serve the Church..........but both must do so in accordance with the Gospel of Christ.........and not the desires of self.

I take it you don't listen to any of the sermons I post from our little church.

2 Timothy 4:3-4
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears"

"And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables"

Not really.........because in your other thread you spoke of folks who go to a church to see what the church can do for them. Social Climbers would certainly fit into this category, Albeit, in a negative way, but they are still choosing a church they believe will benefit them personally. So, they really are two parts of the same thing.......... :)

QUOTE: When you are looking for a church, should you wonder in what capacity you can best serve the church, or in what capacity the church can best serve you? END QUOTE....

Now, about social climbers, while my Home Church does not have such a problem, it truly does exist, and I know this for a fact, because I know some of the social climbers, and the churches they attend.

In my experience, social climbers (here) attend one of two churches............the First Baptist Church of (fill in name of City), or the Church of Christ (usually the largest and most wealthy one in the City).

Social climbers go to these Churches because that is where the Power Players go. Politicians, Police Administrators, Businessmen, Bankers, etc., and the wealthy Citizens in the community. The go there to interface and to try and increase their identity within the City/Community and for the purpose of self enrichment. These Churches usually have the largest congregations as well.........some in the thousands........and you would not believe their Complexes! Hundreds of acres, dozens of buildings, Schools, Colleges, Day Care, Libraries........and Sanctuaries that would rival Notre Dame!

Truly the wrong reason to go to church, but is IS a fact, there is no denying that. I thank God my Home Church has no such problems/people............'course, our congregation is just under 50 folks, and I suspect anyone making more than $10.00 an hour would be the wealthiest member........... :)

Short end of the stick....NO......

Paul speaks to this......Heaping to themselves teachers having itching ears..........and too be frank.....the churches are filled with preachers who will not preach what needs to be preached because they are afraid of losing their cushy jobs, high pay checks, nice parsonages, insurance etc......

I personally know several men who pastor well known churches in Arkansas....their salaries and benefits come to well over 6 figures a year...My friends and I have heard them say they will never preach anything controversial because they do not want to lose the $119,000 a year salary or their UPPER side parsonage........tragic.............!

I'm sure there are some good psychoanalysts right here in Northern Nevada, should I ever feel I need to see one.

I just don't seem to have the patience to read long posts or watch long videos.
Good. Because the sermons I post from our church are strictly audio, and you can listen to them anytime, in the background.

WILLY.....Odd thing....I dreamed about you last night.....

There was a long field and at the end of the field was a quadruple high stacked set of Train cars about 10 in length....NEXT to the field were about 10 homes lined up......about half way thru the dream about 10 A-10 Warthogs came flying by one at a time and were practicing on the stack of cars....and then they came by one by one dropping supplies to use with purple parachutes.......as I was dragging about three of these back to my house I ran into you dragging a couple and you were asking everybody if anyone had some cans of chili in their supplies...I had just passed one that had can goods in it and said to go check the one laying there because it had can goods in it.......

Weird hey......I woke up thinking....why in the heck would I dream about Willy on CC.....you having Chili today? HAH
