It doesn't say, "Change your mind?" I think it does.

And, he says to put your mind on the things of Christ.
Not in the way true repentance does.

True repentance has a godly sorrow for having sinned, positive thinking doesn't.

I very honestly have to say I think there are some real cowards here. Cowards who want the privilege of deriding Osteen and his ministry, but do not have the conviction of their insults and accusations to go online and listen to the teaching by John Gray posted there at Lakewood (It's Feb 22).

You can skip directly to 55:00, and you will only have to listen to about 40 minutes of a typical Lakewood preaching.

But many of you will be scared stiff that you won't hear what you want to hear... what you claim they preach.... so you won't do it.

I've already watched JO several times, & everything other have said about him is true.

He's WOF, he teaches the power of positive thinking & wrote a book on it, he doesn't preach true repentance at all, he doesn't talk about conviction, he doesn't preach on sin, etc.

Did you know It was Osteen who gave Joseph Prince his big break in the US? He's preached several times there, actually.

Maybe that's why the Hyper-gracers love him, even though he teaches works & self-righteousness.

It sounds like people are saying repentance is just thinking about Christ in a positive
way. Talk about diluting righteousness and everything down to a sludge of being positive.

May as well take cocaine all day long, because it gives you such a positive ring to everything.

True repentence through fear and condemnation or through thinking about Christ in a positive way. I've tried both and the latter offers better results. Just me...

That's a pretty dangerous way to view repentence

Don't any of you guys know what "repent" means? Good grief. God, Himself, "repented" 28 times in the Bible.

There is a big difference between Osteen & the other WOF preachers.

Osteen is very positive. His book he wrote is Your Best Life Now: The Power of Positive Thinking
Positive thinking is a false doctrine made popular by Norman Vincent Peale. False teachers such as Robert Schuller teach it.

Positive thinking teaches that you have to change your way of thinking to be what you want to be. The individual has to do it all. It's a neatly wrapped up box of self righteous works doctrine.

Wow, I'm blown away at you hypergracers in here loving on the guy when you spout off about being against works & self righteousness all the time..... especially you, G777.
Stephen,

I said some posts back that JO is different from other WOF preachers and I showed how.
So it seems like you agree with me, but the I know that you don't.

If ONLY positive thinking is taught, then it cannot be called Christianity.

However, if positive thinking includes Christ, then it would seem to me that we have victory in Christ.
Our we NOT to change?

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world.
Isn't it telling us good things? Do not smoke, do not do drugs, stay sober in all things - be Christlike. This is not positive thinking, this is us, just trying to be the best we can.

But be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Maybe we thought lowly of ourself. Maybe with this type of preaching we could think more highly of ourselves - just highly enough to make us be encouraged and go out into the world and make something of ourselves. This is different from WOF. I believe Jesus would want us to be the best we could. Others would even admire us and say what a difference Christianity has made in our lives.

That you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good, and acceptable, and perfect.
We like to tell folk who are on welfare that they should find a job, get a nice home, do something or themselves.
Well, it's the same for all of us. We shouldn't be happy with very little. We should just do the best we can, whatever that is.
Not just sit back and do nothing. This may be called works, I don't know.

I do know that there is nothing wrong with doing our best and being encouraged to.

What are we supposed to tell a new believer? Be poor, be sick, be discouraged - and God will love you.
Or, take care of your body, it's the temple of God, don't be discouraged at home or at work and b the best you can.

I believe the latter is preferable.

Right.
Fear and condemnation will one day end.
Love fo God never ends.

Ooops. I like Joseph Prince too. And by some I'm considered a legalist and works person. This is confusing!!
It goes to show that no one should be put into a box.

BTW, works and righteousness are part of being Christian. I sure hope you know what righteous means.
Joseph Prince explains bible passages very well. One could learn a lot from him. He's OSAS and of the hyper grace movement.
I still like him!

Each preacher has his own way of preaching.
Does everybody like vanilla ice-cream??
But it's all ice-cream.

Oh, I believe you, really I do. It seems nothing else concerns you but advertising Joel Osteen as if he's some Messiah!

Sockpuppet much?
Probably much to your dismay, I was promoting the Lakewood Church services that you missed today.
Joel Osteen just happened to give a great sermon, but you won't be able to comment on that because you didn't see it.
Just as well, it was so good you wouldn't be able to promote your own agenda anyway.
And that is your purpose, isn't it?!

And there was absolutely nothing Word of Faith in today's services, from the music to all the speakers.
And you'll never be able to prove me wrong, because you didn't see it.

somebody stated their heart was breaking regarding what they think is false teaching

frankly I feel kind of sick inside reading the hatred expressed as concern

what spirit is that of? where does that come from?

Joel Osteen is a false teacher. Goodness sake...

No wonder the church is in so much turmoil.

Let's see, Joel Osteen doesn't believe Christ to be the only way to heaven.

That's enough right there.

If that is not enough to convince you nothing will be.

For those of you who know the truth, continue to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints, and believe Scripture, it is not the covetous, self-loving, pleasure loving false gospel of Osteen; read 2 Timothy 3:1ff.

Anyhow, here is something worthy of your time:

Oh no.
Larry King again.

Maybe this thread should have been about Larry King???

I have news for you.
Jesus is NOT the only way to God/heaven.

There are other ways.
Can you think of any??

Not in the way true repentance does.

True repentance has a godly sorrow for having sinned, positive thinking doesn't.
And yet the Bible says 28 times that God "Repented." How do you explain that if "Repenting" means having sorrow for having sinned?
