Oh no! He is so merciful that it makes you just weep and become undone in a puddle!
My issue is over saying it doesn't matter or have any real consequences that matter, whether he returned to abiding in the fathers house.
As far as his heritage it does not matter but for rewards it matters a lot.

That's the problem we have today. We are stuck on salvation and can't past salvation. the majority believe This life is all about getting salvation or maintaining salvation. And the rewards get lost on us. And the rewards are played down to basically getting a lolly pop or not.

When the rewards are something we have or don't have for ALL eternity. Forever. ALWAYS. And the point of our rewards is that they Glorify Christ.

So to say that rewards are little gewgaws is to say Glorifying Christ is of no or little consequence to us.
I just don't care about any reward except getting to be with Him forever. Especially when no one even knows what these rewards are. I would pledge them all to you, not even knowing what they were, if I can have the reward of getting to be with Him forever.

I don't care if I get to rule anything or anyone. I would gladly just like...clean the toilets or be in charge of whatever the most menial thing to take care of in heaven is. Why would I care about getting to rule anyone? I only care that I get to be with Him forever. There IS no reward but Him and being with Him forever. And there IS no thing more precious than my faith. It is the most precious thing He has given me. It is how He saves me. I want it to grow until I am nothing but walking, talking trust in Him. So I take seriously any area of mistrust or not abiding. It was mistrust and not abiding that created this entire awful mess of the world we live in. One man and woman not abiding, trusting in Him. That's what caused it all.
It is not about the reward we get. It is about Glorifying Christ in time and casting those rewards at His feet.

This is like saying: your trust is in your ability to keep trusting. But trusting in Him is not trusting in my own ability. It is trusting in Him...this makes no sense to me.

Not believing your salvation is eternally secure in Christ is not trusting in Him to save you.

Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Rom 2:6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
Rom 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
Rom 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

The reward of eternal life is only for those whom obey righteousness.

G.K. Beale (The Temple and the Church's Mission, 2004) says that passage (and others) about rewards applies to pastors & shepherds. that it's they who receive a reward if their work (disciples) remains.

I agree.

1 Corinthians 3:9
God's Fellow Workers
…8He who plants and he who waters are one in purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. 9For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. 10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise master builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds.…
if I give a gospel. I plant a seed.. A pastor may water the seed. We are also called to disciple others. (which would include shepherding)

Non of us are called to sit and do nothing.. Those that do,, who just go with the flow.. I believe are those who will run through the fire.

But you're the one bringing rewards in by trying to make those passages about salvation.

He is saying if the son did not return, he would have died alone.. But he was still his fathers son, And any loving father would go get his son and bring him home

The reason he would have died, is because he lost all his fathers things, the things he took to live THIS LIFE with.

I just do not believe the parables are about life on earth. I think the parables are about the Kingdom of God and use earthly things to try to help us understand something that it is very difficult to understand.

That's not a reward. That is a gift.

You will never earn the reward of eternal life, Nor could you, Non of us can, or ever will. It is a gift.

Actually, I'm not the one bringing rewards in. I don't care about any reward but getting to be with Him forever. I can't even imagine any reward but that. I'm not certain there IS any other reward. Others are certain there are but have no idea what they are. (Other than getting to rule over others?) I don't want to rule over others in heaven. I just want to be there with Him and out of this mess of a world and this body.

A new title(reign and rank in the Kingdom), FREE access to the tree of life(Some believers won't have free access), the crown of life, the crown of righteousness, a uniform of glory and many many more.

Christ doesn't want us to be naked and least in His Kingdom. Why wouldn't you want to rule with Him? Why just sit in the bleachers?

He has His Best and His most ready and waiting for every believer. But, he does give us the choice to go for it, or just skate along.

I am living on earth, And I am living in the kingdom of God.

When a person get saved,, They still live on this earth.. They have been transferred from Satan kingdom to Gods. and are given many things as part of that salvation to help them live their life on earth as blessed as they can.

It is not about heaven, No one who gets to heaven will be able to leave once they get there.

I just don't understand how they are not about the Kingdom of heaven when it is repeated over and over: the Kingdom of heaven is like, the kingdom of heaven can be likened to, etc.

so your trying to earn it. (you earn rewards)

why then do you deny your tryign to earn salvation?

ps. Salvation is a gift,, It can never be earned.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

the wage or reward of sin is death,, And every man woman and child has earned it.

The GIFT of God is eternal life, And no one will ever earn it..

Yep, and that is talking about life on earth, correct?

Matthew 11:12
And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

Is this not talking about life here on earth?

It is about reward.

He earned his reward of eternal death..

Everyone deserves that, Even you.. even I. That will be our reward if we are not by Gods mercy SAVED.. (not by works of righteousness which we have done, but by his mercy HE SAVED US)

salvation is not a reward, it is a gift..
