"Oh, I found a verse!!!!! Here it is!!!!" lolzzzzzzzzzz...

You're simply ripping another verse out of context because your teaching is also false.

So, that verse is there, given by God to support Osteen and the prosperity gospel, correct? And I see at least one false teacher on this forum loves how you take God's word and wrest it out of proportion and context. It is no wonder, he too preaches error.

oh...lolzzzzzzzzz. If they smile, and are positive, it's all good. Goodness sake. Got a verse for that?

The above is the epitome of the problem, absolutely no Biblical standard whatsoever.
Another "milker" that cannot deal with the hard, negative truths found in the scriptures.....

Ok. I was criticised for using the word "I" or talking about myself in context with
the Lord. Some feel self is evil, or any reference to it.

The prosperity gospel is all about self, so is ironic often the same critics who want
to look to Jesus are so concerned about prosperity and blessing for themselves.
Ironic, isn't it? While they're sharing a "me" gospel, they're nitpicking with the I's in your post.

Actually, not to put your mom down, but she was quoting Thumper's mother in Bambi. Bambi first came out in 1945, so I doubt Disney got it from your mom. I know I certainly got it from Bambi! (Or rather, Thumper's mom!)

It is a good saying, if you are dealing about people in your neighbourhood, friends or family. But when you are dealing with false prophets, heretics who preach to 30,000 people in their church, (apparently the largest church in the US!) and yet they cannot articulate the simple gospel? And yet people go to this person's church, buy their books, watch their videos?? And worse, give him millions of dollars in the hopes that they will receive millions of dollars. Or maybe they just enjoy his "positivity?" Still, this New Age cult of thinking yourself happy, wealthy and wise, in the name of Jesus, is the biggest and worst cult the world has ever seen in many years!

The church is being deceived by these liars! And those people on here, who claim that you can't follow both what the Bible says, and the Holy Spirit. Who sadly have had to make the difficult decision to follow the Holy Spirit, rather than acknowledge what God says in the Word of God, which is obey God's laws, while you walk with the Holy Spirit. Except people, following the Bible and the Holy Spirit is not an either/or proposition! They go hand in hand!

But hey, I would hate to force anyone into such legalism as reading and following the Bible, when they can follow a false prophet like Joel Osteen, or on the other side of the world, Joseph Prince! If someone wants to put themselves out there, in public, on the media, both religious and secular, and call themselves a Christian without acknowledging Jesus is Lord (I read someplace that is not right??) then they have proved themselves a deceiver!

"If you declare with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

If Osteen can't do this on the Larry King Show, then he is no preacher of the Lord!

"32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword." Matt 10:32-34
Hey Angela!

You do what your led to do. Yeah, I know that's not an original quote from my mom, but I doubt she ever saw Bambi. I believe the principal remains however. Usually, speaking ill of someone else says more about us, than the person being spoken about.

There are thousands of false truths and gospels out there. Everything from Islam to a Christian that gives a mixed gospel message.
I don't think our job is to run around and try and stamp out every person, by name, that engages in a false gospel. Paul almost always spoke in the general when pointing out heresies, and then he would follow with love in giving the TRUE Gospel

Shouldn't that be what we do? After all, isn't it going to be the Holy Spirit that reaches people who hear the true Gospel? We just need to present the the Truth and pray. The LORD will deal with the heretic. He doesn't need us to do His light work.

Peace, Love and Grace to you!

I agree...speak the truth as we believe it to be in Christ and His light will dispel the darkness away. Leave the rest in the Lord's hands.

Leave the personal discipline and reproof for those in spiritual authority in the given assemblies as outlined by Paul. Let those who actually have this qualification do the correcting - "You who are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness". Gal. 6:1

These personal attacks against those that view things differently can easily escalate into becoming a Westboro Baptist mindset. People are not rejecting God - they are rejecting the "god" that we are projecting to them by our behavior.

It's time for all of us to grow up as none of us know things as we ought to know them.

To keep the slander and malice down to a minimum. I do not believe in the so-called prosperity gospel as some preach it nor do I agree with everything any preacher or denomination preaches.

1 Peter 2:1-2 (NASB)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander,

[SUP]2 [/SUP] like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,

One person criticised you for using I and he doesn't support prosperity teachers either.

So your accusations are groundless unless you group people as a "they" who are against what you preach...anyway. Thanks for the clarification.

.sorry again for the derailment,

Hypocrites..... they seem to be a dime a dozen on here.

Don't attack the heretic! In the mean time they will attack you, & it's okay.

There are some that are laughably entertaining that act like they're interviewing you or picking your brain when all the while they're hunting for chinks in your armor to expose to all their friends.

I could almost agree not to bother all those rich televangelists out there, really. I mean, if somebody wanted to do a real witch hunt, they have plenty of them riding their brooms right here on CC. Why go out in the fields to hunt when there's a fenced-in preserve right here?
Indeed it's your favorite sport isn't it?

See how many people you can get to join you and light the torches. Or crucify them with you?

Is it like hunting deer for you? Or are you more into lions, elephants and rhino?

God gives us the light work. He does the heavy lifting.

I believe God wants us to deal with heretics and hypocrites as they cross our path. We don't need to go out and hunt them. They tend to hunt us. That is why they are called wolves in sheep clothing.

Not a hidden jab, because though I don't like Stephen, I believe I read one post about 3 months ago that might have had the gospel message in it.

Since I don't stalk him, I would hope he does more than attack people, though rhats about all I have seen.

Might just be a sheep with scrapie...gonna let God take care of that one.

No offence....but....As a believer you will never see the following two statements and or stances come from me and I personally witnessed "a" from Joel and "b" from his wife

a. To deny Islam is false and leads to hell was a CHOICE with a smile I might add
b. The say that we do not come to church to worship God was a CHOICE with the same smile from his wife

Both of the above are contrary to JESUS and the truth...one who is for JESUS would NOT exhibit such things...and for the record...

ISLAM is not of GOD, leads to HELL and is a false cult
WE assemble to WORSHIP GOD in spirit and in truth

SEE as a believer I had no problem making the above statements.....how about you?
Hey dccontroversal, no offence taken. I agree with you that Islam is not of God and I hope and pray if I was put on a major TV station I would pronounce salvation the way it should be said.

If we look at 1 Corinthians 5:12-13 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?
[SUP]13 [/SUP] But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES.

I know the chapter refers to immorality, but we can take these two verses and associate them with anything in life. Joel Osteen isn't part of my church and I believe we should allow God to do what He needs to do with him. As far as Islam, well God will judge that faith as well.

I have also seen an interview where Joel did say he believes the only way to heaven is through Jesus. I don't agree or like the way Joel preaches and I would say his theology and some of his statements are way off in left field some where.

I think a lot of people really focus in on Joel because he is wealthy and his name is always out there with him writing books and his church program every Sunday. That interview that was put up is many years old and it is just bringing up old garbage.

As far as the statement from his wife. Yeah I disagree with it as well. But if we are realistic, how many people go to church because they want to feel better? We are humans and many people come to church for selfish reasons. Yes, our main purpose should be the Lord, but that doesn't always happen.

Perhaps, but not in this thread.

No, actually what I replied to at that moment was your form of nastiness, so including in this thread.

Well, I agree with a lot you say, but you're well known for being very nasty with others. I see it in lot's of threads.
That's interesting. I have the same nastiness you have. How do you think I notice your form? It's my form.

Yep, the Osteen-ites are passionate for their guy. I'm for whomever preaches truth, no matter their name.
And calling people who have had positive experiences with Osteen, "Osteen-ites" isn't nasty?

And the standard now is "for whomever preaches truth?" Who does that mean to you, since neither Lawson nor Osteen were preaching at all?

Which do I prefer -- someone who doesn't know the gospel at all or someone who gets his jollies out of being haughty? Third choice: C. None of the above.

Remember edify? To me that means encourage when encouragement is needed, discipline, when discipline is needed, extol, love, correct, and in all things humility.

You and I tend to attack, when that isn't needed. That's not a good thing.

The object is not to hunt heretics but to teach sound doctrine that every believer is equipped to recognize false teachers and heretics because they have a sound knowledge of bible doctrine.

Ro 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

"Selfish" isn't bad when "self" is in obedience to God. God makes us New creations and if the desires of our heart aligns with His desires, then the word "selfish" loses its sting.

What are your thoughts on the prosperity gospel?

It's sooo much easier now to go thru these posts since I put all those yapping, ankle-biting chihuahuas on ignore. They will absolutely wear you out with all the distractions. Now I can get thru 3 pages in a snap, & focus on what really matters. ;):p

Anyone have any recommendations?

this is disappointing Lynn

truly

you are simply bashing someone you don't really know

I think you have gone beyond what you know to try to make a point

you would not want to be judged the way you have just judged

I think I will just leave it at that because it seems you are getting...er...heated up and might be sorry for some things you said later

there are personality clashes going on here far past any sort of reasonable exchange regarding scripture

and the sock puppets agree

that is all that is going on here. yes, sock puppets like my posts and I as a sock puppet do the same

you have no idea whether I look at myself or not

unreasonable and sadly so
I don't know you yet. I take people at their word.

You said you were an independent thinker. So? Did you see what Osteen said, (as compared to what Lawson panned him as saying?) Was Osteen honest? Because the way I heard it he was cloaking God into univeralism. That's either dishonest or deceived. If Osteen is a "life coach," a motivational speaker, or head cheerleader, that's not a problem. As a "Christian pastor?" BIG problem.

This is intentional, you know. The anarchists, (because by now, they aren't liberals either), are truly on a massive scale trying to teach people anything goes by tearing apart the very fabric of what makes civilization civilized -- The Biblical God. (As compared to all the other versions of god they do accept easily.) And Osteen is either a pawn in that game, or a player. He's a pawn, if he is that deceived. A player if he isn't deceived at all. Either way, he is a tool used against God.

There is no third choice. Either we are for God or against him.

So, yes! I am heated. I am very much against toying with who God is. And Osteen is either toying or is one of many toys.

(And, nope. I've got no idea what you were talking about with sock puppets. If you need me to understand that, you'll have to use something else. Might be a regionalism. Might be something commonly said in this century, but I'm still back in the last century, so I'm not up on 21st century. lol)

was it? couldn't tell

all you need to know about me is that I endorse few and far between when it comes to those I allow to teach me or preach to or at me

few and far

and I don't force them on others and tell them they have itching ears if they do not agree with me

having fallen through the thin ice of my own beliefs, I understand we can be as treacherous to ourselves as we think others are

I genuinely like you for yourself and would like to keep it that way

it's fine to disagree, but lets not knife each other
I haven't knifed you. (With my temper, can't promise I never will, but haven't yet, and am trying not to.)

To me, this is about thin ice. Have fallen through a few times myself, so I'm warning people -- THIN ICE OVER THERE! WATCH OUT!

In this case, the name of the thin ice is Joel Osteen. That is very much the reason I'm on this thread.
