People can walk out of a church just as easily as walking away from a street preacher.

The church is a body of believers in one location working to shine God's light to the world together.

Everyone should belong to a church, even if no one is the pastor in it.

Anyway see you around Jaime.

Wednesday we were learning about "covenant disciple groups" that Wesley founded that had alternating leadership each week.

I know one of the Sunday school classes alternates leadwrship.

I have heard of home churches too, but not had first hand experiences in that.

There was two young ladies who talked about a "church" that didn't have a building but meet to street evangelize.

True, but so could and elder or deacon if the person is being aggressive and disruptive..,or a librabrian of they are being loud.

That is earthly authority, not spiritual.

However, a council of elders could kick someone out of a church, so that would be spiritual authority.

Methodist pastors don't have the power to deny someone membership to the church.

However allow folks to lead bible study, teach, care for kids, etc...those decisions are made jointly by elders also. But would be examples of spiritual authority.

Will listen to it shortly. (listened to half, mind if I start a new thread?)
.I have found that if threads stay on the boards too long, they eventually get nasty.

Like flies around a 3 day old fish.

I believe I have confirmation to take the steps I have now, but will hold off on the major decision of seminary and if God really wants me in the position of pastor.

I may take some Hebrew and Greek classes, but for the most part keep independently studying and praying, attending church and bible study, etc.

The next two years I have committed to serving as a Stephen's minister of the committee accepts my application. One on one prayer and biblical counseling of people who need someone to walk beside them in times of heartache like from lose of a spouse or child.

We will see how that goes.

Sometimes God calls me to step out of my comfort zone, but I am going to put my faith in Him. Take baby steps and if He really wants me to walk out onto the water, I pray He gives me Faith to not sink in the tide of criticism and condemnation some of the Christians denominations heap on women for daring to become pastors.

Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts and time.

God bless and keep you. May His light always shine upon you and give you peace and joy in the innermost parts.

Just be careful when counseling a man... something emotional (from his side, most probably) can originate from it. I have no idea how Stephen's ministry work, though, so this is just a possible problem I can think of.

Oh come now! Probably the exact same number that were "influenced" by men! Unless, of course, you can find any sect that accepts only one gender.

Women have been influencing men since Eve. And men have been influencing women since Adam. Suddenly one gender or the other isn't supposed to? Try telling that to your wife or mother. She'll enjoy the laugh. lol
Your right! I knew something was wrong when I wrote it. I had a few in mind, but of course this is not sufficent for my statement.( I better dont tell my wife and my mother )

No women counsel only women. We have men counsel men.

It's how we have it setup and why I am not worried. We,have leaders who, meet the people before to,make sure they don't need real psychiatric help.

It's really for prayer and listening and developing a deeper relationship with God during times of heartache and loss.

Thanks for the warning. It sounds like something my blood brothers would tell me.

Wait Jaime at the end of the video (much of which raised a bunch of questions such as why do they believe the role of a modern day prophet or Apostle is)

She couldn't give scriptures about women ministering.

I believe we have shown scriptures of women deaconess, prophetess, evangelist, etc.

The only part I don't see is a woman having spiritual authority over a man (does that refer only to their husbands or all men in the world?) and if pastors have spiritual authority over their congregation?

The rest of the video I will answer in my new thread about women's role in marriage, because it's a different topic than this one. Though related.

There is more scripture where a woman is to follow the leading of her husband and not force him to follow her wishes.

The two verses people cite refer to married couples but folks don't want to admit it because it goes against man made traditions they have been taught.

Priscilla Aquila wife, is a NT example of a woman in leadership.

I believe the only "authority" should be Christ Jesus.

Who is a man....
Ariel, where is the scripture poof for that assumtion, that Priscilla has taught man in the church and was a churchleader?

Churches back then aren't like churches today.

Deacons and deaconess were in leadership over the church.

I can see where people would assume that Priscilla was either an evangelist and/or a deaconess. Most people are okay with women in those roles.

The question would be in those roles did she ever hold spiritual authority over men?

How do male pastors hold spiritual authority over their congregation?
