How would you define “freedom”? I think I would define it like this:
Freedom means to be free of recrimination. It requires two things. First, it requires the Lord’s forgiveness. We have that. Second, it requires repentance.
Here is what Jesus taught...
Joh 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
Joh 8:35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
Joh 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
The "free indeed" that Jesus spoke of had to do with one no longer being a "servant of sin." Thus the freedom Jesus taught was a freedom from committing sin.
Paul reiterated this teaching in saying...
Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that
ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Rom 6:18
Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
All very simple and powerful truth.
