The word "repentance" - metanoia as been shown by others simply in the original greek means " to change the mind. to change our thinking - ".

To us it means to change our mind to stop relying on ourselves and our thinking and turn to God. Stop living our own life with our own thinking and come to Christ and let His life live through and in you. Receive all that Jesus did for us in His finished work.

We should be repenting ( changing how we think towards something ) constantly as we see the Lord's true nature, love and grace revealed to and in us.

And yes - this applies to all forms of sinning from unbelief in Christ's work to the slandering of others in the body of Christ

There will always be "fruits" of having a changed mind ( having already repented ) to God but the "fruit" is not the repentance within itself.

True repentance is the "root" before the "fruit" comes.

The fruit will manifest itself in the form of having an exchanged heart because we are a new creation in Christ.

This will also show in behavior as the life of Christ transforms our outward life to reflect what has already happened in our inner man - that new creation in Christ
.

Sometimes our religious traditions can "hi-jack" the meanings of words and can present false assumptions.

Here is a video for those that like to watch them that talks about how the English word "repent" got hi-jacked by religion
.

Good, now perhaps you can see for yourself that the ministry of Christ MUST continue for the believer. And it does continue because he lives forever to keep doing his ministry. But it is incumbent on us to continue in our faith in order to keep the ministry that never ceases applicable to us.

Christ's ministry is like a coat that never wears out and which will eternally keep you warm. But you have to keep wearing it to have it continually and without end keeping you warm. It doesn't stop being a source of eternal warmth when you stop wearing it. It just stops being that for you.

Let's look at it through what scripture has to say about repentance ( changing our mind - the way we think ) concerning preaching the gospel.

I know we have been taught differently through our religious upbringing and beliefs handed down to us. Let's let God's word speak life to us.

Peter preached the gospel of the grace of Christ. to Cornelius
..no word used for repentence was said

Acts 10:43-44 (NASB)
[SUP]43 [/SUP] "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins."

[SUP]44 [/SUP] While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message.

They were not told to "repent" here.

I love how the Holy Spirit "falls upon " them as soon as they hear about the forgiveness of sins proclaimed to them because of Christ! All of heaven responds to the work of Christ!

Peter got in trouble with the Jewish Christians when he went back because he went into a gentile's house and preached the gospel to them...he says in Acts 11:17,18

Acts 11:17-18 (NASB)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] "Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?"

[SUP]18 [/SUP] When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, "Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life."

What was their repentance even tho the word "repent" was not used?...they changed their mind toward God and had faith in Jesus and in His complete forgiveness of sins. This is the gospel message.

Notice that
it was God that granted them repentance.

New Covenant repentance is not something we conjure up on our own nor is it a work we produce.

2 Tim 2:24-25 says that God may grant them repentance so that they may know the truth. God grants the repentance.. - it is not a work we do on our own.

Paul preached the gospel of grace here in the only recorded time in scripture.

Acts 13:38-39 (NASB)
[SUP]38 [/SUP] "Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,

[SUP]39 [/SUP] and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.

Again ..no telling them to "repent" was voiced here either by Paul...but Paul did tell them .."
urged them to continue in the grace of God"

Both of the examples we have of New Covenant preaching about the gospel of grace had NO words of telling people to repent were spoken to them.

These clearly show that "repentance " was not told to them and yet - they did repent and believe in the gospel just like Jesus said to do in Mark 1:16.

So, repentance does not mean "turn from sin" in the traditional usage of some church teachings ( unless one looks at unbelief as sinning which I do believe )

..it means change your mind ( change your way of thinking and rely on God only for things dealing with your life) and turn to God and believe in Jesus and what He has already done.

There is a change after we come to Christ and His life in us transforms us. This is where we see the "fruit" of repentance. Fruit is not the "root" of repentance.

Fruit of an exchanged life comes after we have "repented " - changed our thinking to rely on Christ's work only for salvation and living.

We all need to repent every day as we hear the beauty of our Lord proclaimed!

Brethern ...I urge you to believe in the awesome greatness and splendor of our Lord's magnificent finished work on our behalf!

Thank you,

Sometimes people think it means remorse for ones sins and then stopping a sinful lifestyle, however that does not take the work of the cross into account, it only looks at oneself and feeling bad and changing one's lifestyle.

history had not reveled certain things before the bible went to print,

if you cut off. makes no difference ,

by a new covenant. then you need jesus. and did the hebrew writer ,did he see 70 ad, because the big thing about 70 ad is no temple.

For God So Loved the World
16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.1

the world was not fully descovered , in the bible.

6 he says:
"It is too light a thing that you should be my servant
to raise up the tribes of Jacob
and to bring back the preserved of Israel;
I will make you as a light for the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth."

Here is a post about Ephesians 2:8-9 that has spoken to me of the completed work of Christ for us.

Quote:

Eph 2:8~~
New American Standard Bible

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

The Believer's Study Bible writes that...

The full sense of the expression “you have been saved” is difficult to capture in English.

The Greek perfect tense emphasizes action initiated in the past, the effects of which continue into the present and beyond. Therefore, salvation has a moment of initiation in the past, but the results of that primary experience continue (Ed: See
Three Tenses of Salvation).

This is another evidence of the permanence of our salvation, a doctrine which is called the “eternal security of the believer.”
(Criswell, W A. Believer's Study Bible: New King James Version. 1991. Thomas Nelson)

Commenting on the significance of the tense of the two verbs "been" (present tense) and "saved" (perfect tense) Kenneth Wuest writes...

Not content with the details offered by the perfect tense, Paul uses a periphrastic construction (Ed note: a periphrasis is the use of a longer phrasing in place of a possible shorter form of expression = a roundabout way of expressing something.

In Greek it specifically means the use of a verb in any tense but aorist in combination with the verb eimi = to be as the auxiliary verb) consisting of the participle in the perfect tense and the verb of being in the present tense.

The perfect tense speaks of the existence of finished results in present time, whereas Paul wanted to express persistence of finished results through present time. So he borrows the durative aspect of the present tense verb to give persistence to the existing results.

The Expanded Translation reads:
By the grace have you been saved completely with the result that you are in a state of salvation which persists through present time.

Present time in this instance is always the time at which the reader reads his statement. The security of the believer could not have been expressed in stronger terms.

What is repentance ?
what is repentance? here ya go simply put, to turn aeay from the things you are aware of that are sin. not only to pretend but to stop doing that. Heres one example

A man is having an affair on His wife has been for a year, He comes to Christ Hearing the Gospel, and in His heart now that He believes in God, He sees that adultery is sin. if He repents it means He will break off the affair, and go confess to His wife, and rid Himself of the Guilt and then ask God for forgiveness and to cleanse Him from unrighteousness. thats a good example of repentance.

i think i know where you are going " changong of the mind" but heres the thing if he continues the affair yet says hes repented in His mind its just a lie another sin and another and another as He continues. when we come to Jesus we now are in a relationship its you, Jesus the mediator, and God the Father. Jesus is seated at Gods right Hand as our advocate, the very one who died for our sins is there pleading and interceeding between God and us. Because Jesus died to pay for our sins, if He forgives us, God will always accept us as clean. Jesus though commands repentance meaning as you come into that relationship and recieve the spirit.

now one of the spirits roles is to convict us of sin, not condemn us for sin, but convict us of our guilt and not for our past sins, but for the things were continuing in. the holy spirit will bring those things to us and Godly sorrow will cause the prompting to reoent. its amazing How you can be consumned with guilt over an ongoing sin, and when you truly stop doing it that guilt is like it was never there.

Jesus death doesnt mean now we can sin guilt free, it means now we can repent and be forgiven of everything weve ever done. as we do this the spirit will then bring another thing to heart , and then another and pretty soon a person can examine thier lives and its hard to find an obvious sin to repent of and you will notice those things that used to be to strong and we really could try and never really rid our lives of, lose thier grip on us after just a short while you ee that same thing as an evil that thing that used to not bother you to do, now its something that has no appeal no pull you actually learn to hate those things you used to partake of without Guilt and even enjoy.

repentance isnt what it seems, when you set your mind and heart to live riht and pray always for God to give you repentance to bring those things to your conscience, rather than what it seems from one side as a hard and joyless thing to do to give up that sin you enjoy, but from the other side when you act in faith and stop the action through the Knowledge of Jesus Christ......it brings far more peace and Joy and true real freedom from that thing that used to be chained to you. its not a one time thing as our knowledge increases, so does our repentance sooner or later those obvious sins are gone and little things begin popping up and the more you do this and experience its truth the easier it becomes and you actually begin wanting to find flaws and get rid of them, your heart becomes one after Gods will, His ways when you see Just how true His promises are and that it really is possible to repent and act in righteousness. im not sure anyone will ever be a finished work, but its important to Know its personal between you, Jesus and God the Father. you are only accountable to repent of the things you know are sin. so i cant judge you, you cant judge me but both of us have our relationship with God through Christ Jesus.

its about being able to abide in the word and keep your conscience clear and not have to skip over all the behavioral stuff in the word, a greedy man needs to start giving, a lustful man needs to turn His eyes away from sexual things, a vain person needs to become Humble, a violent man needs to become a peacemaker on and on. and it is absolutely poissible and within our Grasp to change, Jesus has already made it possible by the spirit in us thats Gods Nature living in us and the power to truly repent. changing the mind has to be first and that happens when people stop pretending repentance isnt rewuired and stop pretending Sin isnt a big deal. sorrow comes when you get that Jesus died because of your sin. How can one who Loves Jesus feel comfortable when they are continuing on in what placed the suffering on Him?

I guess only the mean and uncaring should be trusted according to you logic.

What a thing to write.

What he displays is a soft form of communication loaded with psychological abilities to play mind games with me, but more so with the readers.

Since he sounds soft & compassionate, he plays the harpstrings of the readers to believe his story.

After all, such a compassionate writer can't be wrong, can he?

People are easily fooled when they see a compassionate form of godliness. That's how the televangelists prey on their victims.

They are very good at their craft.

They are also witness & evidence that it can be done.

Our hope is certain in Christ because being in the faith is determined as fulfilled.

There are a lot of times in the original Greek the "if" is actually a statement of it is determined as fulfilled.....the word "since" is a better way to describe this usage when it is used with "ge".

Ei is combined with "ge" which means " in fact and indeed"

1479. εἰ ei conj

If, since.

Complete Biblical Library Greek-English Dictionary, The - The Complete Biblical Library Greek-English Dictionary – Delta-Epsilon.

It is called "a condition of the first class"..... Colossians 1:23 is a prime example:

Colossians 1:23 (NASB)
[SUP]23 [/SUP] if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.

If so be that ye continue in the faith (ei ge epimenete tēi pistei).

Condition of the first class (determined as fulfilled),

Word Pictures in the New Testament. A. T. Robertson Greek Scholar

Here is an example....you are going to the bank..and I say to you.... "If" you are going to be at the bank ( determined as already fulfilled )...you will have the $100 bucks you owe me.

I'll take a check too...
The interesting thing is how people use the certainty of the 'if' to then say that means you do not have to fulfill the condition of the 'if'.

Case in point, 1 Corinthians 15:2 "you are saved IF you hold fast the word I preached to you". The 'if' is one of those 'if's' of certainty: The Corinthians are indeed holding fast the word preached to them, therefore they are saved; they are fulfilling the condition for being presently saved. That's why they are presently saved. The 'if' is being fulfilled by them.

The certain fact that they are holding fast the word of the gospel doesn't change the fact that their holding fast the word is the condition for their salvation.

Aren't you forgetting something?

God is "able" to do a lot of things. But just because He's able doesn't guarantee He will.

God is able to heal for instance, but He doesn't do it for everyone automatically, does He?

God is able to set christians free of everything, but He doesn't always do it, does He?
Ephesians 3:20

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,

Yes, God's able to do that. But it doesn't mean He will.

So much for eternal security.

We are saved by the life of the Lord Jesus Christ which is in us in our new creation. We are now learning how to walk by the spirit - which is our spirit in union with Christ by the Holy Spirit ( whom Jesus said would be in us forever - John 14:16 ).

Romans 5:10-11 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

[SUP]11 [/SUP] And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

Living by the flesh does not stop making us a new creation in Christ. It makes us deceived by sin and distorts our view of the Lord's love and grace towards God Himself, others and ourselves.

I have found the very same thing happening in my life. The more I see Christ and what He has done - and the more I agree with His work - the more He becomes manifested in my life and the things of the flesh just have fallen off like dead leaves on a branch.

Transformation is really the emerging new man that is in Christ being manifested in our bodies while we are here on this earth.

This transformation of what already is in us in Christ in our new creation ( It is not called a "new evolution" ) can be seen by man as our minds get renewed to the truth of Christ's work for us. Rom. 12:2

We are simply "being" who we already are when we "put on Christ".

The new man in Christ is like the invisible man - when he put clothes on, people could then see him. We put on Christ and people see the new man in Christ manifested and God gets glorified.

This all happens by grace through faith in what Christ has done and we participate in it with Him for it is God who is at work in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure. He will be faithful to us. Phil. 2:13

As we learn to walk by the spirit instead of the flesh - then we experience God's kind of life in our lives.

And while we are learning how to walk in the spirit - God does not throw His beloved children bought with the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ into hell because they don't walk in the spirit all the time.

Right.
He throws them into the fire because of unbelief. At which time of their unbelief they cease to be children of God. Only the person who has the Spirit in them through a continuing faith in Christ has the Spirit of sonship in them. Those who stop believing are no longer a part of Christ that God would still have some kind of obligation to them as a member of His Son's body.

Think about what you are saying Stephen. You would be more comfortable if I were rebuking you and name-calling. You are uncomfortable with someone taking the time to say that you are loved?

I've already told you I'm less interested in being right than having a brother not experience pain. Especially if I'm the one giving it.

So if I disagree with you with vitriol and disgust I'm a bad guy.
If I disagree with you with love and compassion I'm playing mind games with you.
What exactly does someone have to do to break through that diamond- hard exterior of yours to reach the New heart God has given you?

Why can't I honestly LOATHE dissension without having ulterior motives?

And MOST importantly, WHEN are YOU going to exhibit the love of Christ to others?

interesting the play on words, that only bring a human order or chain of thought.

the chain of thought, that came from the spiritual , was a personal relationship, and how that personal relationship could get in contact with god, through faith,

interesting you have intrest in human thought.

yet quote scripture ,to prove human thought. \0/

Thank you,

Sometimes people think it means remorse for ones sins and then stopping a sinful lifestyle, however that does not take the work of the cross into account, it only looks at oneself and feeling bad and changing one's lifestyle.
thats exactly what it is. you guys have the " work of th cross backwards" its not freedom to sin without Guilt, its power to repent of the sin and not just " inwardly " lol but repentance has always meant to stop sinning. know what repentance is by going back and seeing how many toimes God called for israel to stop commiting iniquity and tun and obey Him. they refused and it didnt end well. repoentance is just what its always been. the cross doesnt excuse ongoing sin through the cross and resurrection you are supposed to receive the Holy spirit, and if you have then doing the wrong things will always bring Godly sorrow Heres an example

2 corinthians 7:9-10 "Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."

Notice How plain that is? and you dont need special grace goggles to see whats there. Godly sorrow worketh repentance unto SALVATION. or is that Just another ommission of the special gog gospel? remember this is paul who had the man removed from the chu=rch so He would become sorry and feel guilt for what He had done, Here hes referring to the churches sorrow because he let them have it when He found out they were actually proud of the man doing this heres what this is referring to

1 corinthains 5:1-5 "It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. 2And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.3For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, 4In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

notice paul isnt taking this as if its no biggy or saying dont feel guilty because of the cross blah blah things like this are just what they are. Godly sorrow for our sin produves the reason to repent of them meaning plainly to stop doing what we know is offense to God. those things that are forbidden......thats satans will. it was his will that the man followed to take His fathers wife, and it was satans lie that the church then were proud of the man. people have to just learn from whats there by accepting that its all plain and right before us and all applicable so then we dont have to re define what something like repentance is. its plain throughout the ot what it is thats why we need to study the ot, to understand the term used in the new .

the ot explains everything and the nt reveals ebverything in truth what all the old meant is found in the new and what all the new means is found in the old

And while we are learning how to walk in the spirit - God does not throw His beloved children bought with the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ into hell because they don't walk in the spirit all the time.
why did you post about repentance, then say in this post, we are a new creation, because of a new covenant.

i am wonder, why your on a pogo stick, in and out of law and grace with your posts, etc

Right.
He throws them into the fire because of unbelief. At which time they cease to be children of God. Only the person who has the Spirit in them through a continuing faith in Christ have the Spirit of sonship in them. Those who stop believing are no longer a part of Christ that God still has some kind of obligation to them as a member of His Son's body.
That is an ungodly thought - that God sends His children into the lake of fire. That is the outcome of the false doctrine that Jesus forsakes His own children that He bled and died for.

That is not even remotely the "good news" or also called the "gospel" of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

So, let's say that you have listened to teachings that said you were not a human. In your own mind you believe this - does that belief make you not a human anymore?

What about you hear bad things about your father so in your mind you choose to believe you are not his son - does this make you not be his son anymore. of course not - it's a sign of a sick mind and thinking.

We can get sick in our minds but true belief is of the heart just as Paul said. There is no such thing as Christ going in and out of us. It is religious nonsense.

Have you not ever heard that the Lord is faithful?

As far as being sons.

The son does remain forever in the house.

John 8:35-36 (NASB)
[SUP]35 [/SUP] "The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.

[SUP]36 [/SUP] "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

Once we are in Christ - we become sons/daughters of God.

Galatians 3:26 (NASB)
[SUP]26 [/SUP] For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 4:6-7 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"

[SUP]7 [/SUP] Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

1 John 3:1-2 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP] Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

[SUP]2 [/SUP] Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

I encourage us to start to believe in the gospel of the grace of Christ. It is "good news".

If we see ourselves as children of God we will walk as children of our Father and our true nature in our new creation will transform our minds to reflect that nature outwardly in our behavior powered by the Spirit of God inside of us.

thats exactly what it is. you guys have the " work of th cross backwards" its not freedom to sin without Guilt, its power to repent of the sin and not just " inwardly " lol but repentance has always meant to stop sinning. know what repentance is by going back and seeing how many toimes God called for israel to stop commiting iniquity and tun and obey Him. they refused and it didnt end well. repoentance is just what its always been. the cross doesnt excuse ongoing sin through the cross and resurrection you are supposed to receive the Holy spirit, and if you have then doing the wrong things will always bring Godly sorrow Heres an example

1 corinthains 5:1-5 "It is reported commonly that there isfornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

Godly sorrow for our sin produves the reason to repent of them meaning plainly to stop doing what we know is offense to God. those things that are forbidden......thats satans will. it was his will that the man followed to take His fathers wife, and it was satans lie that the church then were proud of the man. people have to just learn from whats there by accepting that its all plain and right before us and all applicable so then we dont have to re define what something like repentance is. its plain throughout the ot what it is thats why we need to study the ot, to understand the term used in the new .

the ot explains everything and the nt reveals ebverything in truth what all the old meant is found in the new and what all the new means is found in the old
then you ,would need to prove, by scripture, you were given a law, so that you can repent from your sin.

a form of repentance of sin, was already in place for the jewish people, they had to take an animal to the temple to gain forgiveness. if repentance was only required, because of law.

they are going to have, a bigger problems ,with not having a god. etc

ie a new covenant, never asked you to follow, a old covenant. etc
