I do not believe in OSAS and I assure you this is not even remotely happening in me, lol.
The truth is, the fact that I can show contempt for God's grace has taught me to shrink before him in helplessness when I'm being defeated by sin. That's hardly a performance based belief in God and somehow trusting in myself, lol.
Do you believe salvation can be lost? If your answer is yes, I have a hard time believing you when you say you are motivated by grace.

Grace is umnerited favor. If you claim it can be lost. then the only conclusion one can have is that it is merited.

This is just as bad as the licentious person. Taking Gods grace and using it for his own purpose. which is a get out of jail free card, Just in case this god thing is true, but don't tell me how to live my life, I live the way I think I ought to live it. And my drunkenness, My fornication, My lying and cheating, Well i need to take care of myself so. I will do what I must.

It is amazing, but when we get down to the root of it, Both legalism and licentious are based on pride. One says he is not evil and can live any way he wants, and how dare anyone tell me otherwise.

The other says I do not do these particular sins, and I do these works of God. so I must be ok with God, and how dare anyone tell me otherwise.

That's what OSASer's say. It's just that they think the only consequences are that they lose rewards. And the way many Christians live it's apparent they don't even care about those! Speaking from their viewpoint of OSAS, it's like they are okay with giving up the only thing they think they can lose (rewards) in exchange for a godless, uninterested, lazy, undisciplined, sinful, so-called 'Christian' life now. Hebrews says all they have to look forward to is the wrath of God that the enemies of God are going to get (as opposed to the chastisement of the sons of God).

lol.. As usual, you attack what you do not understand, It is like meggido and Sully were saying earlier, it is attack on OSAS vs works..and not what people actually believe,

Show me one person (well there may be a few in here as Ariel said,) but show me regulars in here who teach this nonsense?

Your attempt to fight what you call laziness with legalism is taking one extreme, which leads to hell, and replace it with the opposite extreme, which leads to hell.

Your quick to point out Jude and James, which were attempting to fight a licentious gospel. and ignore Paul. who spent his lifetime fighting the legalism you are trying to preach..

Did i say God will continue to cut of your bad fruits until the day you die ? nope you said that not i..

Please do not misquote me either. I said nothing about bad fruits. I said that as those in Christ we are bearing fruit as we continue in faith. I said nothing about cutting out bad fruits until the day you die. Go back and look at the post and you will see that I did not say what you claimed.

I believe covenant relationship best defines the nearly to good to be true Gospel and it's truth lies between reformed Covenant Theology and Wesleyan Arminianism Covenant theology......especially in regards to the doctrine of Apostasy....

The truth is a single coin with 2 sides....many here have tried to attempt to state what it is, but the OSAS crowd does not want discussion they want to be right...

God has and always will be a covenant God...The remedy is the free gift of Jesus Christ and him crucified, buried and risen....and the gift's eternal security is based on free choice to remain in covenant relationship or not....Jesus said in John 17.3 to KNOW him and Father are eternal life....

[SUP]3 [/SUP]This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

If God kept me against my wishes and my belief it would make God a man that would lie....it also means that Satan and 1/3 of the angels would have never fell<<<<<<<<<<<<that single fact should prove to OSAS people the fallacy of part of their entire message....The central theme to any creation of God is that they are given free choice to believe or not and at any time....Calvin got this wrong and so infected much of the body with the leaven of eternal security.....

To know God and Jesus Christ is more than mere faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross.....it is to become one with him....and his sacrifice....

When Jesus says I never knew you in Matt 7, it is the very same word he uses in John 17.3 and it means depart from me, because you were never one with me....

Many here pound their fists that they have faith given to them and know Jesus and Father and have zero to worry about.....that is certainly a correct, but only a one sided view of the coin of 2 parts......the other side asks.....Does Jesus and Father have faith in you and do they know you....

Nahum 1.7

The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble,
And He knows those who take refuge in Him.

Someone posed this scenario to a group of us in Bible a study:

You have died and Jesus meets you at the gate of Paradise and asks why you belong. and why he should let you in.....Oh the answers that came out are much like some of the peeps on this thread...I am written in the book of life....he saved me...he did this, he passively worked in my life...a young minister schooled all of us....their answer?

"The fact he knows me is enough....."
and may i say this is also Gods beliefs and not just yours amen..

Funny thing, the nearly to good to be true gospel is not complicated, only defense makes it complicated...
It is not unbiblical to defend the gospel message.......

Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will; the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition, rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment.

So let's talk about this "covenant" and WHO has agreed to fulfill it.

Genesis 15: Talking about Abraham here. The first Biblically recorded instance of righteousness attributed by faith:
6 And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. THEN>>>>

7 Then He said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”
8 And he said, “Lord God, how shall I know that I will inherit it?”
9 So He said to him, “Bring Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” 10 Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. 11 And when the vultures came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.
12 Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. 13 Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. 14 And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. 15 Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. 16 But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.”
17 And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. 18 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying:
“To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— 19 the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

NOTE, Abraham was sound asleep when ONLY the Lord made the covenant with him. It is UNCONDITIONAL. Abraham, didn't have to do anything to earn or maintain that covenant.

Now.... Ephesians 2 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

WE believed in the Gospel, in Jesus Christ, and that faith is accounted righteousness to us. At this point God makes a covenant with us, and secures it by sealing us with the Holy Spirit.

Earlier in the chapter...

[h=1]Ephesians 2New King James Version (NKJV)[/h][h=3]By Grace Through Faith[/h]2 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

We WERE dead. Not hurt. Not sick. DEAD!

There is NO WAY we can have any part in bringing this covenant into being EXCEPT through the faith that God has given us.So we were not just sleeping like Abraham was, WE WERE DEAD!

How does a dead man make an agreement?

No. God's promise of eternal life through His Son, is just that eternal AND unconditional.

theese are your words not mine .....................originaly posted by Ahwatukee] No, I said the process will continue until you're dead or until we are gathered and changed into those immortal and glorified bodies. We will never meet God's standards of righteousness in this life and in this body of flesh. In the mean time we are becoming more and more like him throughout our life time, if we remain in him.

So you reconise one minute we have to remain in him and the next you dont what is it

Well said PennEd!

God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself. We see the 2 of them in this by the agency of the Holy Spirit and thus we have all 3 participating.

The covenant is between the Father and the Son as the Son of Man - He is our representative. Abraham's covenant is a type of that which was to come in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NASB)
[SUP]18 [/SUP] Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,

[SUP]19 [/SUP] namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

We are in Christ and Christ is in us when we believed the message of the forgiveness of sins because of Christ's work on the cross and resurrection.

We then become "partakers of His divine nature" as Peter puts it and we have become a new creation in Christ which has been created in righteousness and holiness - as Paul puts it.

My faith is in what is proclaimed.. I recieve goodness from his vine and daily bread..

in recieving his Goodness i express his fruits carry his honor and dignity and proclaim that what he teaches..

I know if i dont express his fruits his Goodness is no longer working in me.. coz i am no longer expressing them..

What does it mean to carry his dignity and his honor ?

Does it mean i should walk by whilst an elderly lady gets mugged ?

Does it mean i should go round chopping hands off and chopping heads off ?

Does it mean i should declare im the done deal ?

You know the answer to that. You should do good. and not evil.

But that will not determine where you spend eternity.

is ther any limit on forgiveness for you..

We know of one limit of 77 times you must forgive a brother but have you stretched that limit to 777 million times ? and the sky is not blue its just a reflection

Paul certainly disagrees with you:

"...you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; 21for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.22Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness..." (Romans 11:20-22 NASB)

The interesting part is, I've posted this in response to forum folks who insist that God does not use fear. They read it, and then they continue to think God does not use fear. Indoctrinations are very, very powerful things.

That is talking to the gentile group. Not individual believers. If churches are not doing what God wants them to do. They should fear that God will remove their light. I have seen many a church fall for this very reason. Paul even had a fear that he would do something which would disqualiy him from being a good sound teacher accepted by people..

As for fearing our father, I believe what God said, why don't you?

2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Romans 8:15

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

You want to live in fear, which can only breed bondage, loss of hope. and despair, or arrogance, pride and judgmental attitude (Thank God I am not like you greasy grace sinners etc etc..) feel free.

I will go to my Abba Father knowing he loves me..

A child who fears his father will never obey his father, He will perform out of fear. But never out of love.

A child who knows he does not have to fear the father, will gladly do what the father asks without hesitation (unless his flesh gets in the way) and even then, after he realizes he has sinned, He wil not be afraid to go to the father and confess. Because he knows he has the fathers forgiveness, Even if the father is going to bring out the rod of correction. He can take it with a sound mind, knowing it is done in Love.

Amen, I must spread some reputation. but this deserves a rep. so will publicly rep it.

someone did a thread on end times vs gifting. to see how many people believe in end times stuff also believe gifts have ceased.

I wonder what the result would be if we did a pole on those who think God is fulfilling his promise to Israel spiritually through the church, and also believe eternal life is a spiritual thing, not an literal term.

this is covenant relationship...You desire God and he desires you and the redemptive work of Christ ratifies the relationship...

Now Jesus & Father never divorce anyone, nor do they leave them......but people divorce Jesus & Father all the time....

John Wesley called this divorce, apostasy, and said it could be final and there were only 2 reasons for a permanent fall from grace, willful unconfessed sin and actual expression of apostasy....Wesley believed that most apostasy was not final....and could be rectified....he stated this, because it is what the Bible teaches...
Yes and I agree with that defining of apostasy and falling away. Probably why I feel comfortable at a Methodist church even before i studied Wesley's sermons in more detail.

Personally I can't tell someone what God will do for eternity to someone who walks away from Him. However I know He calls them to come back home and when people run away instead, bad things happen to the person and their life. Mostly because in the darkness is evil beings who hate and seek to destroy all of God's children.

Why people run away varies but I believe God calls us to help them step out of the darkness into His loving presence even if the light illuminates their sins. Jesus blood can wash them clean. They don't need to hide. God sees them and loves them and wants to heal them.

oh yes it will you just dont see it..
Oh no it will not, If it does, we are under law and not under grace.

Are you under law? if so, you reject grace, and as scripture said, you better be perfect and not break it once, for that is your only hope.

This is not a good argument and you know it..

If the whole of the law applies to us, we better not sin once, Because once we do, we are done for (we are seen as transgressors and under a curse). Jesus is not going to come back down to die again, And the annual sacrifice on the day of atonement never removed the penalty of sin, and it will not in the future either. You would be doomed forever with no hope

So you better be perfect. Otherwise, I suggest your take your faith out of your own ability, and place it on Christ, who promises to save you completely.

grace is something you recieve daily its called saving grace not the the final reward but a daily one.. perhaps you can define grace for us..

saving grace is not a once in a lifetime event.. the father is full of grace
john 1:14

14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

5 Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake. romans 1:5 grace is a fruit that we must bare also..

8 Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people. this comfirms bare Gods grace..

peter 14:10

10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms once again God saving grace to make us perform his duties..

titus 2:11
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. ( to perform his duties in return as illustratede here 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms

James 4:6

6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

there you have it for remaining humble you recieve more grace

SO RECIEVING GRACE OR SAVING GRACE IS NOT A ONCE IN A LIFE TIME EVENT

I am scared for you, You preach works, and law. and call it grace.

The mere fact I am granted the opportunity to live me life is grace, I do not deserve a job, I do not deserve a wife and kids, I do not deserve my house, my cars, my toys, my church my friends.

The mere fact I have them is but by the grace of God.

Salvation is a different story, I can never earn salvation, So I can never be any point in my life where I deserve the gift of God. This I will always be in the need of grace, every moment of every day. That is saving grace, Which is either a one time thing, or not grace at all.

Your trying to mix sanctifying gracem which changes from day to day, with justification by grace, which is a one time event.
