"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."

"bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."
I can see your point, given what you replied to in my earlier post.

Might should give fasting a try. Just really never thought about doing it.

I have to be honest.
I'm confused by it.
I have been told many different things about what fasting is.
So I've shyed away from it because I have no idea what a true fast is and the genuine purpose.

That's my nutshell

Tonight I was looking at the stars and enjoying the pleasant weather.
And asking the Lord why it is that Yecheskel(ezekiel) was guided in the Spirit of understanding so strongly to speak of noach, iyov, and daniyyel.
In the Spirit of knowledge so much Wisdom is freely offered as far as I can see.
Such a king of the east compared to two other men remind me of Yeshua calmly resting while a storm raged.

Even so I am reminded of the three men.
In the torah(law) scroll account of the Lord and noach there is a time when a certain bird goes "to and fro", and so in the scroll account of iyov we hear of the enemy who goes,"to and fro".
I've shared before what the Lord has given me in the water, wind, and fire.
Who here is couragesness.
Who here knows of sacrificial love.
I know of a bird who isnt.

I, too, do not understand it nor how it is to help a believer. Ashamed to say my ignorance on this subject is great.

[h=1]Matthew 9Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)[/h][h=3]9 So he stepped into a boat, crossed the lake again and came to his own town. 2 Some people brought him a paralyzed man lying on a mattress. When Yeshua saw their trust, he said to the paralyzed man,

“Courage, son! Your sins are forgiven.”

3
On seeing this, some of the Torah-teachers said among themselves, “This man is blaspheming!”

4 Yeshua, knowing what they were thinking, said,
“Why are you entertaining evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Tell me, which is easier to say — ‘Your sins are forgiven’ or ‘Get up and walk’? 6 But look! I will prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” He then said to the paralyzed man,
“Get up, pick up your mattress, and go home!”
7 And the man got up and went home. 8 When the crowds saw this, they were awestruck and said a b’rakhah to God the Giver of such authority to human beings.

9 As Yeshua passed on from there he spotted a tax-collector named Mattityahu sitting in his collection booth. He said to him, “Follow me!” and he got up and followed him.
10 While Yeshua was in the house eating, many tax-collectors and sinners came and joined him and his talmidim at the meal. 11 When the P’rushimsaw this, they said to his talmidim, “Why does your rabbi eat with tax-collectors and sinners?” 12 But Yeshua heard the question and answered, “The ones who need a doctor aren’t the healthy but the sick. 13 As for you, go and learn what this means: ‘I want compassion rather than animal-sacrifices.’[a] For I didn’t come to call the ‘righteous,’ but sinners!”
14 Next, Yochanan’s talmidim came to him and asked, “Why is it that we and the P’rushim fast frequently, but your talmidim don’t fast at all?” 15 Yeshua said to them, “Can wedding guests mourn while the bridegroom is still with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them; then they will fast. 16 No one patches an old coat with a piece of unshrunk cloth, because the patch tears away from the coat and leaves a worse hole. 17 Nor do people put new wine in old wineskins; if they do, the skins burst, the wine spills and the wineskins are ruined. No, they pour new wine into freshly prepared wineskins, and in this way both are preserved.”
[/h]
Well, i was only sharing what ive discovered while walking the last few yrs.
Difficulties may come to distract a person from the Faith in our Lord at times. But consider it joy, for the times do tell.
The treasures to me are always Yeshua's Word and authority over every account. The comfort of hearing of a Life with him leaves me no room to fast.

I have fasted. The key is to fast while spending much time in His Presence with the fast. Not just to not eat.

And be prepared to receive. :)

John 14:27Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)
27 “What I am leaving with you is shalom — I am giving you my shalom.
I don’t give the way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened.

Philippians 4Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)
So, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and my crown, my dear friends, keep standing firm in union with the Lord.

I beg Evodia and I beg Syntyche to agree with each other in union with the Lord. 3 I also request you, loyal Syzygus, to help these women;

for they have worked hard proclaiming the Good News with me, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow-workers whose names are in the Book of Life.

Rejoice in union with the Lord always!
I will say it again: rejoice!
Let everyone see how reasonable and gentle you are.
The Lord is near! Don’t worry about anything; on the contrary, make your requests known to God by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving. Then God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua.

In conclusion, brothers, focus your thoughts on what is true, noble, righteous, pure, lovable or admirable, on some virtue or on something praiseworthy. Keep doing what you have learned and received from me, what you have heard and seen me doing; then the God who gives shalom will be with you.

A true fast into God is to fast from Evil and the fleshly desires of this world...not just food and drink.

To DO GOOD AND BE JUST. Not dishonestly cheating people of their money or beatng your servants/dependents or robbing widows and orphans.

.I can give you the Bible verses...

Isaiah 58
“Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.
Declare to my people their rebellion
and to the descendants of Jacob their sins.
2 For day after day they seek me out;
they seem eager to know my ways,
as if they were a nation that does what is right
and has not forsaken the commands of its God.
They ask me for just decisions
and seem eager for God to come near them.
3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,
‘and you have not seen it?
Why have we humbled ourselves,
and you have not noticed?’

Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please
and exploit all your workers.
4 Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,
and in striking each other with wicked fists.

You cannot fast as you do today
and expect your voice to be heard on high.
5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,
only a day for people to humble themselves?
Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed
and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?
Is that what you call a fast,
a day acceptable to the Lord?

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter
when you see the naked, to clothe them,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness[a] will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
9 Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
11 The Lord will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.

A true fasting is to abstain from dishonest practices. To abhor evil.

That confuses me. As a believer aren't those what we should do anyway?

I've always connected fasting with abstaining from food, etc during a time for spiritual growth.

It's abstaining from anything that we depend upon besides God. Sometimes that is food. Sometimes that may be money or technology.

When Jesus fasted for 40 days ...the first thing Satan tempted him was to turn a rock into bread.
.the lust of the stomach is strong.

Can we trust God to keep us alive or do we trust in the food we feed our bodies?

Jesus said that we don't live by bread alone but from every word that precedes from God.

The next was to throw himself off a cliff and wait for God to miraculously save him.
.Jesus answered that we should not tempt God. It is implied that God might just let us die,

Gtg but you get the idea

Many pagan religions are about physical asetism but Got looks at our hearts....that doesn't mean He may ask us to physically live out certain things.,,just that if the heart and reason for fasting isn't right...then it's just false religious piety.

Like praying in market places or wearing fancy clothes just to be seen by,men...some folks fast to show how super religious they are.
.Jesus said to wash your face and no one should know you fast but you and God.

Those scriptures that Ariel posted are some of my favorite. Especially the pointing of the fingers.

But, a fast is from food. Eat of Him while withholding from food.

Am listening to CBN and Robertson just said it heightens your sensibility. That's what I meant about being prepared to receive.

My first fast was three days, and it was powerful. It was the catalyst to more of the gifts. You go higher.

Eccl. 9:12 - Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come:

As fish are caught in a cruel net,
or birds are taken in a snare,
so people are trapped by evil times
that fall unexpectedly upon them.
