This came up in another thread and I didn't want to move that thread off topic so I started another.

Is it required to be baptized in water?

Personally, I do not believe it is required.
And you are right, it is not required for salvation, but it is part of obeying the Gospel.

And of course we all know that obeying the gospel is not needed for salvation.

Why don't you think it is required.

Regardless of why, the gospel of Christ is not something that must be obeyed for the remission of sins.
If I may ask what is the gospel of Christ to you and what does it mean to obey it?

Nor do I. Perhaps it was something that went along with the signs following in that if you were baptized by somebody with the 'signs following' gifts and they gave you those gifts but you could not pass them on to others as it died out somehow. They were to show God had sent that person, it might show up again in the time the two witnesses are active in earth.

As far as baptism being required I do know that it is something that almost every Christian does and it is true that all through out the new testament when one chooses to accept Jesus in their hearts baptism always followed but honestly if one does not get baptized I cannot imagine that would keep them out of the loop with god. I believe he looks to the heart more than he does to being dunked in water, however I also do not know what the issue is with getting baptized, for me I wanted to wait until I felt it was time to get baptized but I was hounded by other believers how I need to get baptized and so under the pressure I did, but I think I should have done it on my own accord when I knew it was time because for me baptism meant something special it wasn't just a symbolic act of repentance to me and I think had I not fallen under pressure baptism would have been much more special to me.

I don't know if it is required or not but I do think one should do it when they and God know it is time not because that is the Christian thing to do

If you don't follow it you cannot be alive during the 1,000 year reign. You are still resurrected at the GWT event and from there the next event is the start of the new earth. I read the 1611kjv exclusively as I like to debate the book.

The good news of Jesus Christ is that in the midst of the darkness of sin there is hope. A hope that if followed will lead to our salvation. We may debate on what is needed to obey but not the need to obey. There are many here who will boldly proclaim that obedience is not needed for salvation, that obedience is a by-product of salvation. This goes against the very flow and form of the Bible. The Bible speaks of us knocking until the door is opened but many here will foolishly stand at the door refusing to knock falsely thinking the act of knocking as a work of merit.

I do agree that obedience is important and that we have no free ticket to sin and do as we please but as for it being a by product of salvation I can understand how that may be true. I mean it's not just obedience but also the heart behind the obedience a changed heart that has been born again will obey not because it's mandatory but because they want to that is the flow of the holy spirit he changes our hearts to not just obey but to find joy and in doing so and not doing it because we have to but we very much desire to. A heart that has not received the holy spirit and has not been born again can obey but will not do so for the same reason of that of a changed heart and the results will also be very different.

There is only way to salvation and that is through the blood and sacrifice of Jesus, we cannot obey and be saved because only a changed heart and born again believer can truly obey to begin with.
however some go so far as to think obedience is not so important and that we can simply do as we please completely disregarding the commandments and what we are taught by Jesus himself to do and be.

Blain I read your post about being goaded into baptism, and I went through something similar. If God is communicating with you, you have already been baptised with the HS. If you have questions feel free to ask on forum or PM. I am a preacher, missionary and great grandfather. Yours in Christ, Deade. :cool:

Ty it would be pleasure :) The only baptism that really made any huge impact on me was when I was first saved and I was suddenly consumed by this blazing fire burning strongly and fiercely inside me and all around me, this fire was absolutely filled with his power love and life itself I had never felt anything like it. I believe this was baptism by fire that is spoken of in the scriptures.

What about the verse that says "I baptize you with water, but there is one who will come and baptize you with fire"

Is there mans baptism and Gods baptism?

Well I wouldn't call it mans baptism and God's baptism, I think they are both of god but different.

Do you communicate with God; it's like telepathy, not audio but He speaks by putting in your head these whole thought streams. Don't try to hard, just let it happen. You had a vision at your baptism, be satisfied with it. God is alive and He speaks to his children.

If there is baptism by the holy spirit then is water baptism even necessary?

No it isn't that baptism is for the ones on earth that survive the 7 vials. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is what Jesus was baptized with and that is what He baptized His followers with. The signs following came with that baptism. I assume you do not have those powers.

Zec:13:8:
And it shall come to pass,
that in all the land,
saith the LORD,
two parts therein shall be cut off and die;
but the third shall be left therein.
Zec:13:9:
And I will bring the third part through the fire,
and will refine them as silver is refined,
and will try them as gold is tried:
they shall call on my name,
and I will hear them:
I will say,
It is my people:
and they shall say,
The LORD is my God.

This is probably one of the better anti-rapture references.

1Pe:4:12-16:
Beloved,
think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you,
as though some strange thing happened unto you:
But rejoice,
inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings;
that,
when his glory shall be revealed,
ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
If ye be reproached for the name of Christ,
happy are ye;
for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you:
on their part he is evil spoken of,
but on your part he is glorified.
But let none of you suffer as a murderer,
or as a thief,
or as an evildoer,
or as a busybody in other men's matters.
Yet if any man suffer as a Christian,
let him not be ashamed;
but let him glorify God on this behalf.
