'it's always a sad hoot when those who understand then turn the curve for their own benefit...
it's great sadness, but oh so redundant!!!

i used to to get the same messages

I reported them but I also went into my private settings and stopped messages from anyone who was not a “friend”

If you receive persistent messages and friend requests from a member and those who know them too, ensure you record and report all such harassment. The image they may attempt to maintain on the forums can be vastly different to the reality behind the scenes. Be discerning and stay safe.

Thank you sister. I know.
but I can tell you that all the regulars here are not any of those who I reported. It was someone new who never even posted one post in any of the threads

That's very cynical of you
She might have been madly in love with you
maybe
Well, waggles-if the poor lady was madly in love with me, I'm still married-though separated-to an unbelieving lady(long story). And even after I get a divorce, I probably won't seek another relationship.

When I was younger I could've kept her in salmon, but the way we catch it is too hard for an old timer like me. No, my name isn't a John West. Am I missing something here?

Ah! I knew John West had to mean something! Growing up, the only canned salmon I saw had USDA on the label. I saw a can recently, but the brand is Pink Beauty.

Gentlemen, if a "woman" contacted you via private message, saying she needed your help, but wanted your email so she could send you a picture-what would you think was really going on? Hint-rhymes with hammer.
damper hamper(smells like a fishy email)

Optimistic perhaps, naïve definitely not. As yourself, I am certainly not a novice on relationships, I've had my share of heartbreak and have been burned a few times too. I have extensive dating experience, and have made my share of mistakes. I have been married 3 times, divorced once, lost another spouse to premature death and currently happily married to my current and last wife.

I did say that I would not give out personal info to a complete stranger but it would depend on how well I knew this person. A person that desires a relationship but is afraid to act will remain lonely and alone for their entire life. There are risks in pursuing a relationship, calculated risks that I was willing to take.

Let's say that a guy is lonely. One day this guy sees a pretty girl close to his age at the 7/Eleven that has his interest. As he was paying for his Slurpee this girl smiles sweetly at him, comments him on the T shirt he is wearing and slips him a piece of paper with her phone number on it. This guy now has a choice, should he call a this girl that he hardly knows or be afraid to take a chance, crumbling the paper as he walks out the door and puts it in the trash can next to the Pepsi machine.

I would not say that I'm entirely optimistic either but do know from experience that a man with a feint heart will not win the hand of a fair woman. No, I'm not naïve but realistic. I have been around the block once or twice. I've been there, done that, and bought the T shirt.
You said if a stranger sent a pic and a request to talk off site you would think "that perhaps this woman was lonely and looking for love with a lonely man" and that's what I responded to. Saying if your automatic belief is that the individual is just a lonely woman looking for a lonely man that was naive. Where you saw me mention relationships, heartbreak, etc... or where you saw me say you were an entirely naive and optimistic I have no clue. There was a specific, clearly defined point I was responding to and you turned it into all this? Things that never even crossed my mind.

Someone pm me and asked if I wanted to chat and have a bible studies chat.
I said sure.
They responded, can we chat via Hangouts?
I said why, what’s wrong with chatting here?
Then he replied and asked for my email because he wanted a picture.
I was like, bro I have a picture in my profile. Lol.
He was like, it’s not clear enough for me and still wanted my email addy.
I replied (knowing that this was dodgy as) we will chat here.
I had to look him up and this man had a pic of him and a lady (possibly his wife) and a child (possibly his son).

Sorry, but I ain’t like that.
I did an accidental social experiment. (Accidental, as in I wasn't planning on doing this. It just happened.)

See my avatar? It's a stuffed animal. I change it every month, yet there are always one or more of my stuffed animals in the picture. I average about three of those PMs a month.

One month I posted a picture of me (when I was in my 40s) and some of my stuffed animals. Four of those PMs that month.

It seems to me women with avatars of them being women, (and you can even be dressed up for a costume party, and looking frightful lol), will raise the levels of those kinds of PMs.

Four in one month or three a year? Meh. In my case I don't really care. I tend to find the typical spammers amusing.

On the other hand, I would love it if for one month most of the people on this site would have a picture of the opposite gender as their avatar. I'd be curious if there was an uptick or downtick in spamming PMs.

Lol. I was playing an online game when a guy sent me a message and wanted to know if I have a snap chat account. I said no I’m not on Snapchat and then I said “and you look suspiciously like a man in my community who I know is married”.

After that he.....“disappeared”.
Oh, yeah. Because your avatar is so manly. lol

Amen, thanks.... my age is actually lower than myself.... i act 16
I dunno. I've done a lot of studying over the years about how kids grow up, (wanted to be a teacher, so took the college courses, and then was writing a novel for grammar school kids, so had to see if they had changed in the last 40 years. lol) The information about how puberty happens has remained the same. Girls really are two years older in maturity than boys. I just don't know if that means boys are immature for their age or girls above mature for their age.

Good news though. You are the normal mature for your age. (Somehow this sounds like you could mistake this for an insult. I can't figure out how to fix that, so just going to say, "you're doing good. I worry about teens who are too mature for their age, or too immature. I'm not worried about you, because you seem about where you should be in your maturity.")

Love your sense of humour Dcon!! Lol!!

Just remember, NZ is different to AU hehe.
Yeah, you guys are the land of Lord of the Rings. AU is the land of Quigley Down Under and Crocodile Dundee. (And to any Aussies. If'n you want more modern movies to describe your land, then get to it. I'm all about the scenery in movies, so would love to see more Oz movies.)

We were once their age and thought we were wiser than our moms
I've always been a slow learner. I didn't think I was wiser than my parents until I was 17. And then became shocked how smart they got in the next 6 years! lol
