When you say we are REQUIRED to ask for forgiveness or face the consequences are you talking about the renewing of the mind?
When we ask for forgiveness, one of the consequences is the renewing of the mind to what God values and wants.

Not all consequences are necessarily bad. If it's from God then it's good, especially if it makes us more like Him in righteousness.

Hebrews 12 says we don't like discipline while it's happening but the fruit is worth it,

i have a feeling all of us on this page so far are brothers and sisters in Christ

;)

lol

may God bless all of you

anyways

is someone who is born again
saved already
made new

required to DO anything (including ask for forgiveness)
in order to MAINTAIN their own salvation?

naaaaah

but we OUGHT to examine ourselfs daily wether or not we are denying our flesh

walking in the spirit

and confess our sins to our Father and give thanks... say sorry... ask for help and strength

working FOR salvation is a fruitless chase that rejects the sacrifice of Jesus

working OUT our salvation is fruitful...and should be an accurate description of any mature brother or sister in Christ

amen?

Whoever's saying that....

What I am saying is why would a born again believer ever even say that we can sin and don't need to even worry about asking for forgiveness? I mean really, what would cause someone to not want to ask for forgiveness?

Now if this isn't what you all are talking about then forgive me...but like I said in my first post God does chastise us for doing wrong and being unrepentant.

If my child does something wrong, but is truly sorrowful for it and asks for forgiveness then I'm going to go a lot easier on that child than if he just said oh well and went about his business without having any remorse for it.

So should we ask forgiveness or not? And why would anyone not?
I think the problem Is understanding the difference between asking for forgiveness for our sin In the noun form before salvation one time and apologizing for making a mistake of sinning In the verb form while we are In the process of renewing our minds to GOD's WORD.

1. That's what I say.

2. But some say they "believed" 20 - 30 years ago, and that's all they need to do.

3. They can't understand without faithfulness we can't prove faith is even there.
1. I am glad. Most folks I talk to agree also.

2. Most the guys here believe that salvation is MORE than a one time confession but that it only takes a saving faith (often expressed as a one time confession) to ensure salvation.

I have said over and over that faith is the BEGINING of our journey...the end is agape love for all humanity, even our enemies.

3. We don't need to prove faith is present. We have the Holy spirit to testify we are God's children. However the question is are we babes who don't know the basics and refuse to drink milk, or are we mature and able to eat meat and discern good from evil?

1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Above shows that to deal with a matter of conscience we need the blood of Jesus to cleanse us from all sin.

But, notice that the blood cleanses us of all sin when we walk in the light, as Jesus is in the light. This cleansing naturally occurs once we are returned to fellowship.
1 John 1:6 - If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. Walking in darkness is descriptive of children of the devil.

*Walking in the light is descriptive of children of God. Only those who are saved/believers are in the light.

Acts 26:18 - to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.

2 Corinthians 6:14 - Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

Ephesians 5:8 - for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light. Children of the devil walk in darkness, not in the light. Children of God walk in the light, not in darkness. IF confirms these positions in verses 6 and 7. It's one or the other.

In 1 John 2:9, we read - He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now. In verse 11 - But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

*Compare with 1 John 3:10 - In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, (compare with 1 John 1:6 - does not practice the truth) nor is he who does not love his brother. *Notice that "walks in darkness, hates his brother" is descriptive of children of the devil.

I suspect he is referring to Universalist?

Anyway didn't see your post just the quote but yes, working out your salvation is different than saying you have to work for salvation.

Some of the disagreement is semantics...some is personality clashes...some is true disagreement in ideology

Can't make blanket statements. Just have to address folks each personally.

How we speak does make a difference....but way is to listen real hard and pray...in real life I tend to imitate accents unconciously.

Don't know who you think darkness and light are but I would pray before speaking to my little brother again....cuz we have an Advocate and we know He is the Light of the world.

Hopefully you have the same Advocate.

lol absolute drivel

no born again Christian wants to sin

if they do whatever they want

they walk perfectly without any sin out of love

youre speaking of someone who isnt made new

not an adopted child of God

(comes with new heart and spirit)

assurance in Gods promises does not = license to sin

anyone who claims this is either not made new

or lying about Gods grace

anyways

mr.93

it is amazing what God can do

you should seek the truth of what it means to be kept by the power of God

(for the record... those who have recieved a new heart and spirit from God are saved... and this does not change... His sheep remain His sheep)
I know what the truth is young man. And part of that is that you are a very disrespectful youngster. You show what is in your heart. Now, you might think God is leading you, but you just proved that you're not listening to Him.

Disrespect is learnt behavior....

I have found if you want respect you have to give it.

Jesus said to turned the other cheek. How many people actually live out Jesus teaching?

It's easy to feel insulted and to insult others. However God calls us to love...not only those who show us respect and love, but even those who don't.

God tells us that heavenly wisdom is kind and willing to yield. What do you think that means?

I always thought it meant you didn't beat people over the head with the truth. You present what God has taught you, then pray that others read and understand as His holy spirit brings into their hearts and minds.

How does God's love manifest in strife?

I am stuck....does it matter (affect your salvation) if you believe that Jesus is God or just the Son of God?

Is it a sin to believe and preach a different Jesus than what most churches believe?

****

I know personally I accepted Jesus as my savior before I accepted Him also as God. However now looking back, I can see a lot of false doctrines that could be created if you didn't believe that Jesus is God...the "little gods" heresy or the Mormons get your own planet as a god false theology.

Hmmmm....some thing to pray about.

If the Holy Spirit convicts you then yes. repent and know your only dependance is in christ. of course your salvation is secure. But we must confess them to christ so we do not hold them back in some way and may hinder some things.

I have to ask those who insist we have to keep asking forgiveness for sins.

What happens if you don't?

Will God stop listening to your prayers? Will He stop helping you in times of need? Will He stop loving you? Will He snatch your salvation from you?

Please be specific.

your salvation is always there. But there is times in the Bible when maybe we are stuck in pride or our own sin sometimes our prayers can be hindered or maybe the lord won't bless us because we have not come to him about a certain sin we may a struggle with. If the Holy Spirit tells you to repent then you must repent. Its all about showing dependance upon christ.

What sins are left unforgiven and unpaid for in the Christians account?

Depends on the sin...,,

If your sin is that you are angry and refuse to forgive.

Then God allows you to reap the seeds you sow out of anger and bitterness: broken relationships, ill health from the stress, inability to be a light to that person, lose of peace and joy.

Hopefully you will realize you have been walking in darkness and return to His Light.

If your sin is doublemindedness and adultery with the world?

Then God tells us that Yes, he will not answer those prayers for wealth so you can spend it upon your sinful lusts.

What will happen is you will drift further and further away from God and eventually have to choose whom you will serve: God or the world?

By His grace He will send people to call you back to Him, but will you answer?

Well look, if you are confused about your salvation this is what you need to know. Jesus is God, and He is the son of God part of the trinity. But it is a sin if you preach a gospel contrary to what the Bible says.

Well what is the gospel?
The gospel is good news.
Good news of what?

Well we are sinners, we have rebelled against a holy and just God and justly deserve hell. Our good works will not save us, going to church will not save you, your priest can't even save you. According to the Bible our good works are nothing but filthy rags before the Lord.

But here is the Good news!
God so loving sent Jesus Christ into the world. He fulfilled scripture becoming flesh. God became flesh for you! He lived a perfect and sinless life that we can not live. But He was rejected and put on a cross and on that cross Jesus bore the wrath of God which was reserved for you and me. He paid the price which you and I deserve Justly for our sins. The wages of sin is death. Jesus Christ paid that price with His life. He rose from the dead 3 days later defeating death.

So How can I be saved?

You can't be saved just by merely believing God exists or that Jesus existed. Thats mere vague thinking. You must have a relationship or eternal life with Jesus Himself.

You must first Repent of your sins, go to christ and confess your sins asking Him to have mercy and save you from the wrath to come and be merciful to you.
Second, Put your faith and trust In Jesus Christ alone. In Christ alone can your hope be found, nobody else. Cling to him like you would a parachute you trust to save you when falling out of a plane.

also lastly the apostles warned that if anyone preaches any other gospel contrary other than that which is faith and repentance, then you should stay away from them. Sadly many in the last days will stand before Christ saying "lord lord didn't we do this and that and all this good?" but Jesus will say "depart from me, I never knew you"

Make sure you give your life to christ. The good news is christ came to die for sinners like us and we must repent and believe that good news trusting in Christ alone for salvation.

Other religions will preach that good works will save you. That your good will outweigh the bad. But jesus did all the good work and imputes that good work unto your behalf when you repent and trust in Him.

I agree that we will reap what we sow, I disagree with those who claim God will sever the relationship based on behavior.
