Due to my love for everything greasy and fattening, as well as my love for cooking and health, it has become a necessity for me to find healthy versions of "bad-for-me" things that I normally crave. Of course it will never be exactly the same, as we're removing everything actually tasty (jk), but it certainly satisfies the craving.

As an example, I'll use my craving for pizza- because I know many others can relate.

So0o0o0o for pizza... here is our alternative.

Source: GK

Ingredients:

2 whole zucchinis
1 cup of Parmisan Cheese
1 tblsp of oregano
1/4-1/2 cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 cup of your favorite tomato sauce or, even better- homemade!

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Prepare a baking sheet with a strip of aluminum foil.
Slice up the zucchini into thin discs.
Brush the discs with olive oil on both sides (don't just immerse them in oil- they'll absorb almost as much as if you were frying them).
Dip the discs into a bowl of Parm cheese so that both sides are coated.
Bake for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is crispy.
While still hot, sprinkle with oregano.
Dip into favorite tomato sauce, and enjoy!

Non-Dairy cheeses are usually horrible, I definitely feel for you.

Cauliflower is a wonder vegetable that has a cheese-like nature. Instead of the Parm Cheese, take some fresh cauliflower and throw it in a food processor/blendor until its fine. Throw a generous dash of sea salt on it and it should mimic a cheesey taste!

oooh really?? wow okay cool!! I'll see if I can try that :D and yeah, my family's used sea salt for a little over a year now! so definitely can do the sea salt thing, too!

Though I've heard goat's cheese is good...have you tried it before? I'm gonna try and see if I can find some and try it.

A good idea for finding 'replacement' foods is checking out vegan sources. I'm no vegan, far from it =P But i have been to a vegan restaurant a few times and they had some really amazing foods. One of my favorites was the chocolate brownie with peanut butter sauce. But they also had a pizza, and lots of other things... here's a link to their blog... ~~> Native Foods Blog: Recipes

If you crave chocolate, try carobs. Supposedly it's the healthier version of chocolate.

And Lil, I've tried goat cheese (Specifically feta), it's good.

Vegan places CAN give great ideas... but just because its vegan doesn't mean its healthy. Alot of vegan in fact, isn't healthy. Much of it is packed full of gluten- a natural inflammatory and insulin booster, and also an unhealthy amount of soy- which has more hormone-effecters in it than what is good for someone. They also use nuts as a substitute for alot. Nuts are great, but when you have an entire cheesecake where the base is pureed cashews- the fat content soars. So just be careful =]

Such a good one! Chocolate in and of itself is difficult to replicate because its so close to being a whole-food. However, I can help you with chocolate ice cream =D

3 banana - peel and freeze them in a ziplock bag for 4-6 hours. After freezing, throw into a blender or food processor. Add a 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder, a teaspoon of honey, and 2 drops of vanilla extract. Blend, and you have yourself chocolate soft serve without all of the dairy and added sugar!

Add fresh berries and coconut flakes for garnish ;) Enjoy =]

Just remember, not everyone is designed the same way. Gluten is not bad for everyone, just those who have a tolerance for it. It's basically, everything in moderation.

-----------
Also, as for the mock ice cream, I've made a version of it where I used about a cup of milk. You can substitute rice or almond milk. instead of real milk. Basically, the rest of the recipe is what you've stated above, although those who are on dialysis, only use 1 banana.

Another tip with that ice cream is to slice the bananas before freezing, and they blend better.

Use a waffle iron. It might be interesting to see what happens.

Or you can bake it, but to just done. Let it set for a couple of minutes, carefully pull it out of the pan, spray the top with olive oil cooking spray and toast it. Not sure if it would work, and it might cause a mess, but hey, all fair in funnel cake and wars.

Most nutritionists, food experts, and doctors would disagree with this. Whole wheat, oats, and barley used 50 years ago WOULD have been good for you- I agree. However ALL gluten products today (at least in America- I can't speak for other countries) have been genetically modified and are no longer healthy for anyone. Also, whether or not your intolerant, gluten is an inflammatory in anybody. So if you have arthritis, joint pain, an injury, etc... it is going to enhance that pain.

Hmm ok. So we want something soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, with the light sweetness on top.

Instead of a wheat dough, get 1 head of cauliflower and grate/food process it. Soften the grated cauliflower in the microwave or a steamer for a few minutes. Let it cool. Add 2 egg whites and 1 cup of vanilla yogurt, mix together. Scoop the mixture into a coconut-oil-greased muffin-tin sheet.

Preheat the oven to 425F. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the muffin tin and "dough." They won't have finished baking yet, but they'll be firm enough to work with- here is how you get your CRISP=]... brush each "dough" with olive oil all around. The XVOO will brown the outside. Pop it back in the oven for another 25 minutes, or until its browned to your liking.

It will look something like that- but yours will be more crispy and shiny, as these ones aren't coated in olive oil.

Lastly, for the powdered sugar, you're going to make you're own! Instead of using sugar, get some granulated stevia and grind it until it is a fine powder. Sprinkle it atop your "dough" while it is still hot, and enjoy!

Yes she is right! I meant to type that but forgot, definitely cut the bananas before they freeze.

Mmmm vanilla almond milk mixed in sounds like it would be yummy =]

Does that include the unbleached kind as well? Because last I knew, the unbleached is usually not manufactured the same as the bleach. Partially, because it's also usually organic.
