What do you do when people insult and revile against you? As a Christian what should you do?

I just brush it off and pray for that person.

It takes a lot to learn to do it, but you can just forgive them and ignore it. After all, if you are following what the Lord has told you to do, all they are doing is proving what they think of His work. Of course, if you think there is any point to what they say, you should pray about if there is any truth to it.

I just ignore it and move on. I always remember what Jesus said to the disciples when he sent them out - Matthew 10:11-14 Whatever town or village you enter, search for some worthy person there and stay at his house until you leave. As you enter the home, give it your greeting. If the house is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you. If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town"

People don't usually insult me. But if they do, I just figure it's because they speak a different mind language than I do and they might look at life differently than me. That's why they misunderstand so badly and say mean things about how they perceive me. It helps me not to take it too personally.

another thing to consider too Relena is if you are Christlike, people of the world will hate you and the more Christlike you are the more they will hate you

It is a hard one - disembowling them sounds good (only joking!).

We can all speculate as to what we should do but when caught up in the heat of the moment it can be difficult, I tend to just ignore them.

If they are in the wrong then God has heard and seen everything which has taken place, let him deal with that person. They have not just insulted you they have insulted a child of God - and daddy is watching!

Sometimes though there can be some truth in what they say or a bad attitude in us has enflamed the situation. If this is the case I try to learn from it - othwise let God deal with it.

to be completely honest as much as i try to live a positive life there are times when you get caught off guard and i have done the praying for the person , walk away, ignore them but occasionally i have said something back to them and walk away and it seems like once they have gotten you to that point where your angry and you want to give them the finger , you have made them happy , so i try my best to ignore

because if you notice once you are steaming mad they are happy.but i have to remind myself that i am a struggling Christian and not perfect


beside where in the Bible does it say you have to tolerate people's insults?

the bible tells us there is a time for everything and there are examples of Jesus and men of GOd ignored insults and examples of when they insulted and reviled back...I think Paul did on one occasion when he called Philip the magician to task..the insult was the truth and he said it for a good purpose..Jesus also insulted the Pharisees but I should not use Jesus as an example because He is God and God alone has the authority to do certain things that we may have no right to do...I like the example of King David when he was fleeing from Absolom and a certain man hurled insults and stones at the king..how David reacted was very honourable and noble and it is very very interesting what happened to that man who insulted the righteous King

Hi, I have been thinking a bit more about this and God directed my attention to Matt 5 v 11
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. v 12 rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Wow - while hard to take, if the problem is caused because you are a Christian and because of Jesus, then blessed are you.

I once heard someone say that if you don't bump into the devil, then it probably means you are both walking in the same direction. :)

THERE IS A VERSE THAT SAYS, THEY WILL INSULT YOU. THE THING TO REMEMBER IS THE SCRIPTURE OF" YOU SHALL RISE UP AS EAGLES RUN AND NOT BE WEARY. THIS IS THE WEARINESS THAT COMES WITH THESE THINGS THAT ATTACK OUR SPIRIT AS BELIEVERS. THE EAGLE TAKES IT'S PREY HIGH INTO THE ATMOSPHERE AND IT JUST SUFFOCATES IT FROM LACK OF AIR, DROPS IT AND DEVORS IT. PRAYER AND GETTING CLOSER TO THE LORD WITH THE PAIN, TILL A RELEASE COMES. THE OTHER THING IS" TO REMEMBER JESUS WORDS" READ JOHN 17 IS HIS PRAYER FOR US." THESE WORDS CAN PLAY OVER IN YOUR SPIRIT, AND WEARY YOU. SOON AS THEY COME BACK AROUND JUST BRING IN THE WORDS OF THE LORD. THE ENEMEYS GROWL ISN'T AS GREAT AS OUR LORD WHO IS THE LION OF JUDAH, HIS WORDS WILL DEVOUR AND DEADEN THOSE INSULTS QUICKER THAN THE BLINK OF THE EYE. :)
