Default Grilled Brussel Sprouts and Apples

    6 brussel sprouts per person
    1 apple per two people
    Green onions optional.

Cover cookie tray with aluminum foil and then cover it in oil spray.

Cut apples into apple pie size slices. put them down the side of the sheet. Cut up the onion to bite size bites.

Then add the brussel sprouts evenly.
(We use the rest of the tray for burgers of chicken thighs. Since there are only two of us.

Back at 35 minutes at 425.

Apples go great with brussel sprouts, and the onion adds a bit of zing.

Sounds great, Lynn. But brussel sprouts aren't a favorite of mine. I'm thinking maybe I could substitute broccoli instead. I already do roasted broccoli with onion. An apple sounds like a nice tasty addition.

    Thanks for the recipe!

Hubby had an unfavorable outcome () when I made this the first time, so couldn't talk himself into eating brussel sprouts again for quite some time. (In all fairness, maybe it wasn't a good idea to have 12 brussel sprouts per serving.) Thanksgiving was in that "quite some time" period, so we went with broccoli. It works with broccoli too. lol

This thread reminds me of a sorry tale of woe.

My aunt use to enjoy sprout sandwiches (yeah I know!).

So one day she decided to put some sprouts in the microwave to cook them and
make a sandwich. She put in about 4 sprouts and put the microwave on for about
    20 minutes.

Well i was upstairs and got a whiff of this awful stinky burning bonfire smell.
It was like burning tyres mixed with - well sprouts!

I went downstairs to find smoke pouring out of the mocrowave so quickly I turned it off.
When I opened the microwave, there were 4 burnt looking sprouts. I just gently touched
one and it disintergratd into ash.

Oh but the smell...it just wouldn't go away, I opened all the doors and windows but
no matter what we did, this awful tyre burning acrid smell of sprouts just invaded every
molecule and lingered for days in the house.

I banned her from cooking any more after that.

I have tried them - I even ate the ones I cooked. I agree that there like little cabbages, they're in the same family of cruciferous veggies. But I get this condensed flavor, cabbage I'd milder in flavor.

I will eat cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, kale collards, book choy and other cabbages. I wish I liked the Brussels sprouts - there cute!

I always warn DH when I eat them. Not that I have to, the aroma speaks for itself! Heehee! . I make a stir fry with a lot of those veggies and make cauliflower rice. The oder could run me off if I didn't like it so much.

Hubby hated brussel sprouts. The only food he ever hated. (He likes liver, for Pete's sake. lol) He would eat them for me on occasion. But once I added the apples, he truly liked them. Whatever that back-of-your-mouth-yuck taste is that brussel sprouts does give off, the apples take away. I don't know why.

Always use garlicky Italian salad dressing for any dish which contains Brussels sprouts. It adds an immense amount of flavor and is great for broccoli as well.

Brussels sprouts are rather tasty, especially if you get them fresh and
don't over cook them. This way when cooked they have a milder
    sweeter taste to them.

The overcooked to death stewed version tastes bad.
Or even worse I went to a friend's house on Boxing Day and we had
Christmas left overs for dinner, including warmed up left over stewed sprouts.

Yuk, it was like eating old unwashed socks!

    Miri,

it's really surprising that you were never taught to wash-old-socks before you eat them...

hubby likes to 'stir-fry' them, they are delicious this way, cut in two and also spreading them out
under the oven-roaster, they are also very delectable...one of my favorite ways to eat them is
to 'boil them in organic beef-broth and water...

down here in the way-south, they aren't really that 'popular', but they are an acquired TASTE for many...
, some 'down-heah', unfortunately have never tasted them...just shows to go ya, there's always
    ROOM to GROW..

Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and gravy just wouldn't be the same without
    sprouts. Yum

    just a share,

    for YOU, REAL OYSTER LOVERS,

hubby and spent a whole $30.00 on a 'half-bushel' of said-OYSTERS, FRESH, a couple of days ago - they
really weren't bad, but, hubby and were blessed enough to get our own, in season, many years ago,
and they were the 'choicest' to be had where we lived...and, they were FREE! it's illegal now to harvest them,.,
= we ATE the ALL in about 35 to 45 mins..
