This came in an email with awesome pics of the omelets, neatly rolled by the bag into burrito style. I can hardly wait to try it for us.

ZIPLOC OMELET
(This works great ! Good for when all your family is together. The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet!)

Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into roiling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes [we did 15 minutes]. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.

Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and a great conversation piece.

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready. And in 15 minutes, you've got a nice omelet for a quick breakfast!

We did something like this once on a Boy Scout Camporee. The difference, is that it was suggested as a possible "survival" technique; not something to use commonly, or if unnecesary. Why? Ziploc bags are made out of plastic, which has chemicals that are released when heated. Much like why you shouldn't be around plastic fires.

"Ziploc bags are not designed or approved to withstand the extreme heat of boiling and therefore, using Ziploc bags to make any recipe that requires the bag to be boiled is not recommended.

Sorry to try and burst your bubble.

I like this idea a lot. I noticed many people here are scared about the possible chemicals being released as am I so I did some research. Any how I have the FoodSaver Vacuum Sealing System the bags are a little more duriable than most ziplock bags today. Their website says that you can use the bags to use the Sous Vide cooking technique. Many chefs use them to Sous Vide meats and vegtables. I say if it's a good cooking style for meats and vegtables then it would work on eggs too. It says to cook the food around 165 degrees Fahrenheit. It specifies not to boil, but rather simmer. I'm going use the FoodSaver bags to try the idea you posted and Sous Vide my omelets. I will upload pictures if it works or reply back to tell you the results. Thanks for your post. :)
