How's your Hindi?

Do a lot of the churches around Delhi use English rather than Hindi, in any case? (I think your state in the Assam region uses Mizorami or whatever it's called...or maybe I've got it wrong.) Blessings.

In Delhi, Many Churches/Fellowships have both English and Hindi services at different timings. Like for instance, in my church, we have English service in the morning and Hindi in the afternoon. Northeastern people excepting few are not very good with Hindi and since most of the Christian populations in Delhi be it in Churches or Fellowships are from Northeast, English is the common medium for communication.

In northeast (Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya), every community speak their own mother tongue however in schools and colleges, English is the medium for our education.

*It's called "Mizo", the language spoken by people in Mizoram

I guess you did your higher education in English, too.

I'll remember Mizo... :)

Blessings.

PS: Ms. sanglina: Maybe these days you use English more than the language of your home state!

Blessings.

A little clarification here: What I mean to say is here is that in Delhi most of the churches/fellowships have services in English medium since the Christian populations are mostly constituted by North easterners who are not good with Hindi. However, for the sake of the local populations with difficulty in understanding English properly, many churches/fellowships (like the case in my church) have separate services for Hindi speaking Christian community. But whenever there is some combine programmes or services, we conduct it in English medium unless it is an outreach programme in the outskirt of the city among Hindi speaking people.

Actually, I speak 4-5 languages/dialects almost equally on daily basis i.e. my home state's lingua franca with people from my home state, my mother tongue with my family and community, English and Hindi with friends and colleagues and sometimes a couple of other dialects that I know with friends from those communities.

Ms. sanglina: Well, this is good; it doesn't surprise me, actually; because India is so diverse linguistically.

Blessings.
