What were some things, people, situations and places your expectations were not quite as reality? Right now i am thinking of fruits like fresh plum, wc i have only had as a dried prune before. I thought it would have been more tasty and juicy, but maybe i got the wrong varieties. And persimmons from Japan have very different vit. C and A content from the american varieties, it seems, so the tastes must also be very different. Hope the thread doesnt get too serious.

we both have found out over these many years of living in this fallen-world,
that our only 'expectations' should be Christ centered - yes, having great expectations of 'others',
especially those in the world, is not a good habit, for worldly expectations can only come to naught...
and many times, our Spiritual expectations of family/others will also come to naught...

This was a thread i originally thought not going to be about people, but rather food again, then thought we do have certain expectations not necessarily bad, but not exactly near to what a situation or a person we expected something or someone to be. Sorry, this wasnt a literary thread on dickens' novel, as some probably thought. I have read novels a long time ago, and could not discuss much even as i wanted to. But i hope you will still share abt some of these expectations, and esp. how you dealt with them.

Maybe i could share what someone else expected and got disappointed with: I did not meet a sister-in-law bef. i was married, and after i sent some wedding pix, she said she thought i was sosyal (sort of highbrow). Later when we met, she saw me lie down in mats on the floor, eat kamayan (NO PLATES, often banana leaves - NO UTENSILS - JUST YOUR HANDS) and did silly things, not quite what she thought, she said.

I want to sing the Lord a new song for he has been good to me :)

Just remember, he knows what he is doing, just continue to have faith and God takes care of his children and knows all of your hopes and dreams.......

Here is kind of a positive spin on expectations. New York City was at one time, known for being rather dangerous. When we went, I felt perfectly safe walking around at 1:00 and 2:00 in the morning. I expected to feel unsafe- and felt safer than walking around at night in the city near where I live!

A book that my siblings had been lauding: And Then There Were None by Dame Agatha Christie. I was very anxious to read it because my siblings had said it was a fun and creepy mystery. Well, I did not find it as creepy as everyone was predicting. I still liked it, though :)

But for the most part I try not to get expectations, because that is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Crooked House by Christie is her creepiest, imo. Although, I wouldn't call Christie creepy. I am a romantic, so I am opposite of you. I constantly have great expectations, and sometimes I am disappointed, but sometimes they came to pass. I have been warned all my life about getting my hopes up, but I still do it. :)

I've not read Crooked House. You're right though, Christie isn't very creepy :).

It is different personality types. I prefer to know everything bad that could happen so I don't expect too much so I am not as disappointed, but for some the anticipation is one of the best parts and (APPARENTLY!) makes the disappointments worth it.

Yes, anticipation of something wonderful is rather sweet. I don't think I would give up my anticipation for calm pragmatism.

where I live, in the 'south=east' region of the usa, pineapples are a lot like growing avacados,
you just 'pot' then and they just seem to grow in their own way...of course in the cooler regions
of the us, you would have to grow them in 'pots' and bring them 'in' in the cold weather, -often these
days, people mostly just don't want to be bothered with 'bringing plants 'in-an-out' according to the
weather, but we don't mind...:p pines' are easy to grow, and very visionly-rewarding...

mar,
ALWAYS -FEED'...:)
