"It" = stress. I've got a lot of it lately, and while I'm hashing out ways of managing it, circumstances aren't improving (mostly it's all work related).

So to all of you cool cats: How do you deal with stress? Do you vent? Pray? Meditate? Exercise? Eat? Scream? Cry? Drink? Smoke? Practice a musical instrument? Take it out on the dog?

I've tried all those things to little avail. Lol... But seriously. How do you deal with stress?

"Stress" is not an external force.

It is a self-induced response or reaction to internalized perceptions to external happenings. In other words.... "You stress yourself out." Nothing and no one does it to you.

I appreciate the insight, and didn't mean to imply otherwise in mentioning my circumstances.

That aside, do you have suggestions?

Congrats on being betrothed! No doubt that planning a wedding is both exciting and perhaps stressful. If I ever get engaged, I will be sure to have Pizza Hut and 31 flavors on speed dial.

From your list... A, B, E, E, F, F, F, F, G, (if soda counts as drinking), H, and throw stuff. (No dog. lol)

So far? B/Praying seems to work best.

Okay, so right after your stroke, when you knew you couldn't help your wife at all to do what you used to do around your house, and you knew you had a heaping boatload of abilities you had to remaster, along with worrying how she was taking it all, plus the worrying that is usually associated with a huge health risk like that, then, what did you do instead of stress?

I tend to journal my thoughts and feelings as a way to vent, take a walk with my mp3 player and listen to upbeat songs/songs that make me wanna dance. Some other suggestions I can offer would be watching a comedy flick or show on Netflix, if you're really artistic or interested in drawing, you could sketch or paint a picture or color in an adult coloring book. Adult coloring books are pretty popular. Write a poem or read a good book. Turn on some classical music or jazz. Dogs are good with stress therapy when you play with them and adore their cuteness and silliness(depending on the dog's personality), but I definitely wouldn't recommend kicking them or lashing out at them. I wrote a blog post which I encourage you to read as they offer more suggestions and encouragement. http://christianchat.com/christian-teens-forum/148153-being-positive-midst-negativity.html

I'm in no way suggesting you should replace spending time with God through studying His Word and prayer with these things. Do you have a good support system? Good friends from church? It's good to reach out to people you can trust to talk things out and get wise feedback and support. Hope things will cool down for ya.

It seems to me my stress has usually been the result of fatigue. I needed more rest and relaxation.

If you are having a problem at work, you might discuss it with your boss. If a person is causing you difficulties at work, perhaps you need to discuss that with your boss. I never liked snitching on people, but sometimes they leave you no choice.

Been to an outdoor range once, but never gave the pipe a go. Domestic beer, or import?

Thank you kindly for the detailed reply, suggestions, and for the well wishes. I have supportive family, a few supportive friends. I... tend to avoid relinquishing my baggage, and instead withdraw when I feel overwhelmed. Probably something I should work on, though I'm not convinced yet that avoiding being candid is entirely a bad thing.

I approached management with a potential solution rather than a problem on several occasions. Alas, things haven't changed.

Tennessee Whiskey and a smoke.
Nice.

Within about three days, I assessed my path, and began the journey back. I have never been one to lament nor live in "what-if's".

By the time six months had passed people I would meet for the first time were shocked to hear I had experienced a stroke.

I am also slowly going blind right now, but it doesn't stress me a bit. I realize it, and I deal with it.

Every time I see this thread, I think you're referring to Pennywise the clown, and I frankly don't want to deal with It.

Aw, c'mon, Tim Curry is such a lovable antagonist... right?

Fanks for giving me something else to stress about: Nightmares.

Creepy child killing clowns are always pleasant to think about before going to sleep.

I would just crash on my bed with 2 Coke Zero bottles, a bag of Skittles and a fully charged iPad Mini, which I would search the Internet for the dankest and classiest of memes on, and my phone, which I would play my favourite songs. That's all there needs to be said.

Too bad my mother wouldn't allow that.
