There seems to be two fairly consistent assumptions on this site made by a large number of members.
1. Upper-class/wealthy/large-business executives are evil greedy people.
2. Pharmaceuticals/doctors/medicine is evil. Only homeopathic remedies work, and eating just right is the way for Christians.

Where do these ideas even come from? Who teaches this stuff? And why is it considered wrong to disagree?

Those Ideas come fom hippies. Hippies teach it, and hippies are crybabies when you disagree with them.

Pharmaceuticals are evil. A few years ago, Kermit, WV has a town of less than 200. Over two years, there were over 8,000,000 opioids shipped to one little pharmacy. The owner of that pharmacy owned a ‘pain clinic’, and had all scrips called into his pharmacy. Two pharmaceuticals didn’t alert the FDA. I live about ten mins from Kermit and about five mins from the now defunct ‘pain clinic’.

Hey, now. I'm married to a hippie. (Well he used to be back in the day.) And I'm from the generation right after. Don't go blaming us for that.

1. Upper-class/wealthy/large-business executives are evil greedy people.
... I don't know what to say. Evil and greedy is found in poor people, too. However, I wouldn't correct someone who said "Upper-class/wealthy/large-business executives are evil greedy people". I would probably say "yeaah!". I wouldn't become their lawyer.

2. Pharmaceuticals/doctors/medicine is evil. Only homeopathic remedies work, and eating just right is the way for Christians.
When I was younger and was reading a lot of conspiracy theories, I also believed that. I believed (but didn't share my belief with many) that the government tries to dumb us down and break our faith through TV and processed food. It's stupid, I know, you can laugh if you want. I wasn't circumspect about medicine, doctors, pharmaceuticals (maybe about pharmaceuticals, yes - because they are chemical, blah, blah), but about food yes. I even tried to become raw vegan. I failed :D.

So, religion is at the basis. Now, I have a child and I am glad that I am no longer obsessed about these conspiracy theories, but I see a lot of parents who refuse to vaccinate their children and that makes me very mad and angry, but then I remember that I could have been one of them.

These people are brainwashed (like I was) by ideas such as: Bill Gates wants to reduce the population so that's why he provides vaccines (because he said vaccines are a mean to reduce the population - of course, I, now, understand the context), a lot of additives in food can produce drastic body changes which will make girls enter puberty earlier so that they start their sexual life earlier, or it will make children confused about their genders etc.

There is also the Illuminati who wants to corrupt society, starting with children, with their food. Also with the tooth paste because it contains fluoride which damages the pineal gland (your third eye, your awareness). They (it's "they" or "the government", "the system") want to control easier the population and that can be done if the population is: 1. stupid 2. sexually corrupted 3. satisfied

So, these are some ideas that would occupy my mind when I was 22, 23. Enough old to know better, I know, but I got really scared and once I digested all this crap, I felt like an illuminated person, one of the few who really knows the truth.

When I first moved from California to Oklahoma in '74, my coworkers called me hippie because I had facial hair. I knew better because I knew some real hippies. Believe me, they were but a small part of the population.

Out of all the folks put on pain meds for whatever reason (from the 1-3 pain pills you get after root canal to cancer patients) 3% of them become addicted to the meds. 97% of us don't!

What you had there were doctors doing the illegal/immoral. That's not pharmaceuticals. Glaxo is a pharmaceutical. Baush & Lomb is a pharmaceutical. Procter Gamble is a pharmaceutical. Pfizer.

And we get those kinds of bust too. Meanwhile, 100 hospitals in this city, and I get stuck with the same pain doctor who only tells me I should get shots in my back or surgery, because that's all he knows, and most doctors won't prescribe any pain pills for any reasons whatsoever. I've never gone to a pain specialist who starts from scratch knowing what the problem really is, (I was lied to for 15 years), and working it out from there. All because the federal government has had no problem prosecuting doctors for writing scripts.

Because of 3%ers, I'm treated like a criminal. And the funny thing is criminals, (people who smoke pot), are now treated like honest people.

I'd laugh at you, except I too was believing a lot of junk when I was young too. Actually, I'm still laughing because I haven't kept up with the latest junk, so some of the things you remember are new to me, (and pretty funny. Could have used the toothpaste one when I was a kid and hated brushing my teeth. lol)

Now you did it. Now I feel like letting my chin hairs go wild and visit OK to see if they still think I'm a hippie. (Or maybe just the bearded woman. lol)

1% of the world's population controls 90% of the world's wealth. No that aint evil.

Big pharma jacks the cost of lifesaving drugs to the stratosphere totally independent of cost due to their monopoly. That ain't evil either.

It's called CAPITALISM. Right Tommy?

It's not quite that easy, Ricky....

What would you do to "even out" the control of money? Take it away from the entrepreneurs and wealthy (no matter HOW they got it... inherited, or earned) and give it to poor people to manage?

It is a known fact that the more money you have, the more likely you will be to make more money. "It takes money to make money"....

There are, obviously, exceptions to that rule, but they are rare enough to be major stories... Apple being started in a garage, etc...

I agree that many drugs are insanely expensive... I've had to take one of those drugs, over 4 infusion sessions. It's crazy how expensive they are.

But, I also work in the medical manufacturing field, and get to see first hand just how difficult, and time consuming it is to get anything approved by the FDA. The costs involved in getting a drug or medical device to market would amaze you.

So, yes, it is capitalism... and it is still the best system in the world, with a lot of room for improvement.

Fixes for Capitalism:

My home is very warm and comfortable, and everything about it works quite nicely, and what's more, I didn't rob or exploit anyone to get it.

But my home isn't perfect.

As comfortable, and warm, and functional as it is, it still isn't perfect.

Sometimes the toilet clogs up.

It's funny though, when the toilet clogs...
I don't fix it by tearing down the whole house.

I don’t remember which two companies they were, but they were required, by law, to notify the FDA when abnormal activity took place. They didn’t do it, but kept shipping over 8,000,000 opioids to a pharmacy whose population is < 200. So, they were culpable, too.

Well Jesus says that it is very very hard for a rich person to enter heaven, and he also suggests that doctors can make things worse for people.

Actually, it's very expensive to get through the government regulations, and bring a drug to market. Combine that with the limited time on the patents..... it's a perfect storm for high prices.

Watch the movie "Dallas Buyers Club." You'll see a real example of the problem. It's a true story.
