I just came from a thread that someone posted about leaving CC due to all the bickering. The thread: http://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/99449-so-much-arguing-4.html. That thread inspired this thread.

Unfortunately, even on that thread, people began fighting. I've seen several people post threads about leaving CC due to all the strife; I don't know how many I haven't seen or how many people have left quietly like I almost did. But here's a different approach: instead of saying what everyone already knows (that people argue a lot on CC), I want to mention some of the reasons people fight on here (and basically in every other Christian setting). Here we go:

1. Pride. I rarely ever see anyone say something like, "You're right" to anyone else except that other person is a part of their clique or 'circle of friends'. People rarely say, "I learned a lot from that" or "That helped me a lot" because some people feel their pride will be hurt if they come across as not being knowledgeable, and they want to appear to be more put-together than they really are.

2. Insecurity. This is closely linked with the above. Some people are insecure about things in their lives and can't afford to be wrong as it would betray that they do have imperfections. They 'fail' in other areas and try hard not to 'fail' here.

3. Entitlement. This is directly linked with pride. It's the sense that what a person knows should have precedence over everything else-- the belief that a person should have their way.

4. Self-righteousness. Again tied to pride, this is the belief that a person is actually more righteous than others and should therefore have preeminence or an important place (along with their beliefs and opinions) over others. I've been surprised to see this facet (of pride) suddenly jump up and attack or slander others.

Except for those who are trolls or causing problems on purpose, the root of all the fighting is pride which is a stubborn refusal to yield [to God first, then to others]. Solution? Those who argue and refuse to budge from pet doctrines should realize that even if others don't know it (because they are guilty of the same thing), all they are doing is putting their pride and their insecurities on display. Only true biblical doctrine is able to unify Christians which means that as long biblically unsupported opinions are flying around, there will be fights and debates and quarreling. If someone shares something you agree with, share your agreement; and if someone says something before you say it, let them have the credit. Yield:

"Be kindly affectionate toward one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another... Do not be wise in your own opinion" (Rom. 12).

sadly this is all the the rage on CC. You have people who think they are right, and that you should only listen to them and not one else. Were a forum is intended to be a shared informational site, to give some reason, to give some answer to questions that arise in people's journey. But Because this is a multi Christian Forum, People will find it hard to accept one's belief or faith. Because everyone has there own belief's and faith's and religions. So people will get confused, specially the young Christian's. who I mean? are those who recent has given there heart to God. So there will be arguments, fights, agreements and disagreements, its sad that new people join, some of them are genuinely want to know God. But how can they know God, if there are many gods here on cc? So when people decide to leave because of what ever reason they have. deep down, they not found the God they are looking for here.

In an ideal world, we as christians from what ever religion or faith's or beliefs, should be a level of unification. and acknowledgement and good fellowship. but there isnt, because there is an attitude of, I am right and you are wrong, or dont listen to anyone else but me, or my god is better than yours. Its getting out of control to be honest. There is no love, no true friendship. and before anyone has the chance to check this site out. What do they see? is all of this negative. So no wonder some may turn away, or leave.

If people would take note as to who starts the slandering, bickering, disdained statements, and put them on ignore, then like a miracle, it all stops.

As a side note: If people believe that to be me, then, by all means, put me on ignore and be refreshed. But, on the other hand, if you do not, I hope you have gleaned even a small jewel.

well, if we could " agree to disagree", most of this could be avoided. we do not have to agree on EVERTHING 100% to be brothers and sisters in Christ.

People with a lot of time on their hands + People with strong opinions + People who think their side issue opinion has the literal backing of God + Some people potentially having relational/emotional issues = AHHH!! AHHH!!! AHHH!!!!

The above equation might give you part of the answer to your question. :p

That falls under.. (having relational/emotional issues)

Not necessarily, most trolls just want to have some fun at the expense of others.
They topic argued is rarely close to their heart.

Richie_2uk, you said, "So when people decide to leave because of what ever reason they have. deep down, they not found the God they are looking for here." There are lots of people cycling in and out of churches for that reason, and some Christians that stay still feel the same way.

Blue_Ladybug, there will be no arguing on this thread. :)

Cfultz3, how do you ignore people? I have only one in mind. Surprises me that the mods haven't yet banned him from the forum.

Just_me, really love your avatar and signature(s). Sounds like you've lived a full life.

I'd like to get long-winded and expound on things, like I sometimes do, but I guess there's nothing left to say.

I had a thought some days back of starting a thread with the Question.
Does becoming an intellectual book smart Christian harden ones heart?
I do not have that problem due to the fact that God put it in my heart to read the bible more three years ago. Something that I still have not done.
I am struggling to quote any scriptures now days. For it seems that I forgot the little that I once knew.
Not all is lost. I sure like my Christian radio.

People like to argue because they think only they have the truth and the rest of us are always wrong and ready for them to stomp on? (imo)

Simple solution : avoid the troublemakers by posting an opinion in a few posts and move on. There are posters that I completely avoid.

yeah, there are some folks on here it is best to not interact with that much. i'll just say that you will never get folks who think they are " perfect" to admit otherwise.
