I don't carry a knife on my person, but I keep one at my office desk and one in my car. Of course, my kitchen has quite a few, my workshop has several, and my hobby desk has those pointy-sharp X-Acto knives that tear flesh with abandon.

The one at the office has been with me since I was about 11. It's a venerable Victorinox which has long since lost the red plastic covers. It's blade is concave from careless sharpening, and it has peeled a few thousand oranges and nicked many more bananas. I bought a replacement once... and never used it.

In Canada, I could carry a knife around. Many people do.. some even carry Bowie-type (hunting) knives, but they aren't common. I just haven't found a need to carry it constantly. A Leatherman-type multi-tool, maybe. Office workers have little need for such things on a regular basis (although, when I do need a tool other than a staple remover, I can't find one!).

getting your pocket knife from dad was a big deal, it was a right of passage, like when he took you shooting.
I have always carried on, sometimes two.
Nothing is a weapon until it is used as a weapon.
Case makes a great knife, are they still around?
We need to get the young ones to carry them again.
nice thread.

The orange micarta "whittler" that I haven't used yet... whittler.png

The yellow delrin small trapper that I used to carry daily... trapper.png

I lost my kershaw a while back and just went without carrying a knife for awhile.

I have a gerber multi tool that is attached to my backpack that I carry to work.

I recently replaced the kershaw with a winchester pocket knife. I carry it everywhere I go because it is handy to have. I don't think it would ever dawn on me that it could be a weapon as well. I never think of it that way.

That's it isn't it, we don't think of harming anyone so we don't think in terms of "weapons".
In the corrections environment anything hard, sharp and portable is a weapon, a pencil, paperweight, etc. can become a weapon.
It isn't a weapon until it is used as a weapon.
I'm partial to Buck as they are a Christian company and Leatherman as they have made the commitment to stay in America.

I can't like, carry it for a trip to town no.
..but a few years ago I made friends with a group of reenacters, we'd meet up once or twice a week and "fight",
either in a sports hall or at the local fortress. :D (as you can see it is blunt, so as long as you don't hit hard, it's perfectly safe)

Nope.
Well... no one is going to bother you for bringing one to a camping trip or something like that, but you better leave it at home if going to town.

When I was in high school (1980-1984) I knew people who carried Buck knives in a sheath on their belts (mostly rednecks or hillbilly's, as some people referred to them) yet today, I hear it's illegal to carry a knife to school. How times have changed.

Speaking of how times have changed. :p

I recently heard this joke about how times have changed from the 1950's to now.

1957 - Billy goes quail hunting before school, pulls into school parking lot with a shotgun in the gun rack of his truck. The Principal comes over, looks at Billy's shotgun, goes to his truck and gets his shotgun to show Billy.

2017 - Billy goes quail hunting before school, pulls into school parking lot with a shotgun in the gun rack of his truck. School goes into lock down, Swat team called in, Billy gets arrested and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

I recall kids walking to school with the rifle to plug a rabbit or two on the way home, teacher set it in the corner till school was out, now some leftist teachers flip out if a kid points their finger and goes "bang".

Hornet guy- I have seen the damage a guitar pick can do, as I have heard a lot of horrible guitar playing and music! ha!

Yes... I rebuilt a Springfield rifle when I was a senior in HS, and one of my teachers asked me to bring it to school and show it to him. I took it right in the school in a guncase, and nobody blinked an eye.

Different times. Most of us had gunracks in the back window of our pickups, and nobody worried about somebody stealing your .22 rifle or shotgun out of your truck.
