I had my first set of piercings at age 10. Both got infected as I did not take care of them. My second set at age 14, I never wear earrings in them though. Belly button at 17, just a scar now.

We had my daughter's ears done at six months, they never got infected as I kept them clean for her. Getting babies ears pierced are quite expensive as you must buy real gold with srcewback backings made for babies/toddlers. She is four now and loves them.

We did not have my son's ears done. My husband does not like earrings for men. Like farouk said this is a personal preference thing.
Yes, in some families it's customary for sons to have theirs done, too. Especially if mom and a sister have doubles, for example. Sometimes sons are taken for theirs around the time that daughters would be taken to do navel, like you mention.

If dh had left it up to you, would you have maybe let your son do his ears, as well?

Blessings.

Re: tattoos........I know.......just speaking of me.....

Re: earrings............I agree, BUT, IF we are going to seriously discuss the issue/option, then we must also discuss what the "acceptable" standard is yes?

Example: IF the guy pictured came to your/whoevers church one Sunday morning, dressed in a nice suit, wearing a tie, carrying a Bible........would he be accepted in Christian love and fellowship, or would he be cast out?

It is a worthwhile question.........

I had this discussion about piercings with my daughter and my grandson......but I allowed them to decide for themselves what they would do............

So, given that..........what is the "acceptable standard?"

THIS ACCEPTABLE?

Interesting questions...

I'm not surprised that your granddaughter and grandson wanted earrings, though.

Blessings.

Oh I must have assumed that the fact that they had the discussion with you, meant they were interested in them.

But that first photo was something, anyway!

Blessings.

If my husband was indifferent I would not care but my son would have to make that decision when he was much older.

I personally prefer men with no jewelry except watches and wedding bands but that is strictly my preference.

Oh okay; I guess I was assuming someone a bit older anyway.

Seems to me that moms often are quite relaxed about a son having his done. Kind of a moral argument, really: if mom and daughter have a few, not letting a son have one each side may not kind of seem fair, or whatever.

But all families are different. It would be a boring world if they were not.

Blessings.

Well, it doesn't surprise me. Grandsons as well as granddaughters.

I think it's a well established custom and I'm perfectly comfortable with it, anyway.

i didn't get my ears pierced untill i was 13. Then I did it 2 more times. So i have 3 on each side. A couple years ago I tried piercing my upper cartilage twice, each time in each ear, but got really infected both times so I gave up. The second time i really tried to be patient, but after 6 months and it was still really puffy, red, and painful no matter what I tried to do. So after 2 tries, I had a feeling that God really didn't want me personally to have one. I was very frustrated, but will never try anything like that (on my ears) again! Only tats for me now. ha ha

So do you still use the 3 holes each side that you have?

Anyway, multiples now are widespread on women of all ages, I think it's fair to say.

Yeah, My mom didn't mind as much because she used to have 2nds, but they closed up after a while.
...
Sounds like she doesn't use her 2nds any more, while you do use them. To each her own, but hard to see how she would 'mind' that you did them, if she had them also.

Blessings.

My second set of piercings, were around 13 or 14 I think. For some reason my parents, mostly my dad, was hesitant to let me, But I don't think anyone has a problem with it now.

..
ronnie: Anyway it's probably now that today a lot of ppl would reckon that getting seconds are simply part of growing up, if this makes sense.

Blessings.

jjtj22: Think your dh might change his mind, if your son decided eventually to do it?

(Seems like a lot of moms and dads do change their minds about stuff: e.g, the moms who years ago were 'against' tattoos but so many of whom have ended up getting them.)

Not a big deal either way, I guess.

Blessings.
