I have a heart for the unsaved - a heavy heart and I'm guessing most Christians are the same. I guess the most opposition to God from the atheist/agnostic is science, it seems to be the one thing that is constantly thrown at us. For me though there is no contradiction to the Bible from science - both are open to interpretation and science is forever changing as old findings are dismissed and new ones become fashionable - such as the modern global warming phenomena. Does anyone else remember being taught we were headed for another ice age? The word of God is steadfast, unchanging and reliable. If we are that interested there is so much material available for study on the internet and in books and DVD's.

I love to listen to arguments for God from sources such as Hugh Ross, Ravi Zacharias, John Lennox, Amy Orr Ewing, Ken Ham and Ray Comfort - there are so many more. My favourite apologetics ministry is this one: Reasons To Believe : About : Mission & Beliefs

When I was considering God I wanted answers to the scientific questions but once God had come into my life they no longer mattered to me and I stopped asking them preferring the personal relationship what was now developing between God and myself. I think that is how it is with most women who are emotional beings. With men though I guess they need answers to scientific questions regardless.

does anyone else have an interest in apologetics and/or evangelism? If so, where do you look for sources of inspiration?

From an atheist and unbeliever's point of view or at least the scientific minded science is basically the answer to life itself. They need hard proof, something they can touch see and know 100%. I admit I like science I enjoy being able to know things about our world and the universe and I like thinking logically and being able to explain and teach things with great info and knowledge.

However I have always believed in God and I am the type of person who even though enjoys science am more prone to believe in the unbelievable. Perhaps it is this reason that I am able to have such faith in God, but of course never having an actual relationship with him I was not saved. I like to think that somehow science and God and faith somehow all go together, of course both unbelievers and believers oppose this but I think that God created everything and if science didnt come from God then where did it come from? I mean sure we humans like to think we created it but did we really? I mean the evidence to support all our theories and all our facts about science already existed before we were born, we simply study these things and call it science. But then if the study itself is what is called called science then what of bible scholars or demonology and such? are those too considered a type of science?

Im sorry I seem to have derailed the thread lol

Well science is knowledge - what is known but like I said it's forever changing. The NT is also knowledge, the knowledge of and witnesses to Jesus, His life, death and resurrection. There were hundreds of witnesses who saw Jesus after his death - this kind of evidence would easily stand in a court of law.

If we took the time to study science, comparing it to Biblical accounts it matches. I know a guy who has studied the Bible for 30yrs, in English, Greek and Hebrew and he told me he has yet to find a single thing that doesn't add up. If you go back to original Hebrew you can often find meaning lost in translation. I have read a lot about the flood in Genesis and how the layers and fossilised remains fit perfectly. I have a DVD about the Cambrian explosion that talks you through this. It's just a case of putting the time into study.

I have found that apologetics is beneficial to the believer as it helps sweep away the dust of doubts cast by the skeptics.
But I have found it of little help in encountering the unbeliever as their true barrier between them and God is their sin ...not anything intellectual.

MPW, there's a cool little website called bethinking dot org.

if you go to the link at the top that says 'explore', a drop down menu will list apologetics at the bottom.

you can filter by type: read it, hear it, see it
and what i like is you can filter by level...introductory, intermediate, advanced.

one of my favorite speakers there is Michael Ramsden...but you're free to do with it what you wish,
including nada! lol

love,

Michael Ramsden used to teach philosophy at a university,
and he said it's the secular equivalent of speaking in tongues...

except even angels don't know what you're talking about. :)

When I hear of something scientists have discovered, to me it is just more proof of the fact that it could only have been done by a Supreme Being; science proves God.
