Good for you, man! It sounds like you are taking all the right steps.

My personal belief is that every able-bodied man is called to protect and preserve those around him. I think the chief virtue one must exhibit and exercise when armed is discipline. Handling a gun day to day requires discipline. Knowing how and when to use it requires from the stage where you assess your situation to the point where you (God forbid) need to have your groupings controlled.

I have a CCW permit, but seldom carry on my person. I just don't feel the need in my area and for the situations I get into. When I drive somewhere though (think road trip), then for sure I have a weapon on me, plus another in a hidden location in the vehicle. The main reason I got the CCW is so I don't have to renew my permit to acquire every year so long as I keep my CCW up to date. It's nice being able to show my CCW at the gun store and get sped right along through the background check before I take my new toy home.
