All I can say is WOW!.. just finished HACKSAW RIDGE, what a movie. Thank you Galatea for first recommending it and thank you Zerobulence for making me move it to the top of my list. This Andrew Garfield seems to have his "calling" in Christian movies, because he brings faith alive in both these movies SILENCE and HACKSAW RIDGE. And the thing is, they are both based on true events. "Lord, let me get just one more" led Doss to amazing miracles saving soldiers. With Martin Scorsese directing one and now Mel Gibson directing this I'd say this actor is well on his way , wouldn't you say? I'll be watching this again, for sure ! Now I Got THE SHACK added too ..thank you Willie T.

With all respect to Willie as a brother in Christ...I would recommend researching The Shack before you watch it as it is definitely not one some Christians care to see.

I'll never forget years ago a movie that came out that was considered very controversial concerning faith where this salesman fell in love with a lady who happened to be a true Christian, and he decided to ACT like a Christian just to impress her. He had the charisma to move everyone to believe he was a man of the cloth. Actually, he was found out through a prostitute friend of his who came forward and told the sister who he REALLY was. Some Christian movies move us to learn how NOT to be. ELMER GANTRY is a good example of this, written by one of the best authors Sinclair Lewis. As long as we are good with God, He will guide us well . I have learned from having the privilege of meeting true Christians, while they may be kind and humble, they are NEVER fragile.

That is an absolute fact. This is one movie that will have a lot of church people fuming and sputtering for months. Twenty years ago, you couldn't have gotten me to watch it for all the tea in China...... it really IS that fantastic.

Yeah, it is not one I will be watching but I'm really not a movie-watcher anyway so the fact that I'm not watching a movie isn't very wonderful :D

I found Hacksaw Ridge to be an incredibly inspiring movie, though the telling of Doss's life was fictionalized somewhat, and also, though I cannot say what it was, one aspect of the war story completely baffled me, and perhaps we can talk about that after you have seen it :) I did also see Silence, and enjoyed it immensely as well, though it was a bit long. One Christian movie I have mentioned a number of times that I really liked was called Do You Believe?, from 2015. Cybill Shepherd plays Lee Majors wife, Mira Sorvina is in it, and Sean Astin, as well as quite a few others... it tells the story of multiple people in NYC struggling in some way to make faith real in their life, to overcome their trials, and believe in the power of the cross to turn lives around, and rejoice in life with gratitude for the amazing gift that Christ has given us. Some Christian movies are boring to me but this one was completely engaging :) It is available to watch on youtube

I loved Sergeant York, too. You can't go wrong with Gary Cooper, :) But I think they did a good job of depicting York's faith and his convictions.

You are very welcome for the recommendation. If I think of more, I will let you know.
Then you will love "FRIENDLY PERSUASION" Cooper and his wife are Quakers, but she finds his worldliness intolerable at times.

I watched it about 10 times.

We watched Courageous a couple weeks ago because it was on TV. Man, that was a good movie, my wife cried a lot. Thanks for all the other suggestions. :)

My wife and I went to see this movie a couple weeks ago. It was sort of an edgy version of Grumpy Old Men. We both enjoyed it.

Yes! I loved it. Was just curious of that scene you mentioned.
What perplexed me is why he was left alone at the top of the ridge all night to work alone. Someone could have gone up to help him and possibly save many more. It struck me as odd that nobody made any attempt to help beyond collecting the survivors he delivered to them.
