So my first week of college is great; however, I got that one professor that seems bent on reforming all our minds to his way of thinking... Such as non-religious ways of thinking...

How do you deal with that? I have to get this class done for the degree I want... I just don't want to loose my faith over it... I am already extremely week in my faith... And I can tell my faith is going to be tested beyond what I have felt in a while...

I know every time I reach the bottom I look up because there is no more looking down and I see God again... But I don't want to be the seed that fell in soil filled with thorns...

Post some arguments here. We'll help you refute things. Knowing the truth will give you the edge you need.

Well, firstly I would make sure if I was you that you PLUG IN with a good group of Christian young adults in a local church that works with the college community there, so you can connect with individuals that may be facing the same challenges. It's always harder alone.

Secondly if you ever have a topic you want to bounce off of me feel free to message me in here. Also, the idea of the previous poster may help, but if you want one on one conversation friend me. I've been through a lot of that kind if struggles.

Third, if you read at all I would suggest reading JP Moreland's book "Love God with all your mind: The role of reason in the life of the soul. ".

We will never be able to argue someone into the faith and even the bible tells us that there are those who are enemies of the Cross whose God is their belly and whose end is destruction so I wouldn't stress too much just because someone seeks to knock you off track. it would benefit you for your sake though to know more about why you believe what you believe.

Lastly Pray Pray Pray- it's a lot harder to question a relationship with someone you are in constantly in communication with. I once read a book called "Practicing the Presence" or something like that... It was a collection of writings by a guy named Brother Lawrence. You would think that someone who has chosen to live his whole life in the church for the glory of God would be In good and be fairly secure in their own knowledge and relationship with God. He questioned all of this regularly until one day he decided to start doing every little thing(to include putting forks in a drawer) as unto God. This constant acknowledgement and interaction with a very real and living Go eventually led to those questions fading.

Anyways I hope this helps. God bless. Praying for u.

I am not out to set the professor wrong or to look like this great bible scholar in front of my class... I just don't want to loose my faith...

He hasn't attacked me or my faith directly yet; however, he did say... "I used to be spiritual then I found science and it just made everything click and answered all my thoughts." He was explaining it like you are about to see how wrong your faith's are... And every time he starts on a evolution rampage, he stares at me almost gearing his discussion towards me... Maybe I am overacting...

I think I am just in shock because just about every room I go into there is 2 people debating God and they are always on the atheists side... In high school it was more nonchalant, people didn't really 'brag' about being atheists or anything of the sort.

Science explains the universe at it is found today. But faith determines what of God's many options are visible in the universe for the scientists to find. It takes quite a while to figure that out, which is why you hear so much talking about the problem. The university is a place to figure things out in words, which is why you hear so much science and so little faith. The talk does not change the reality. All that will happen is you will figure out better ways to account for your faith.

Lots of people very proud of their ability to reason and think get carried away with how great they are. Someone called them educated monkeys. They have discovered a tiny piece of how God created our world and operates it. Just because you are learning what they know about it doesn't mean you need to be taken in by their chest pounding about their great ability to figure something out. They are completely dead spiritually and blind to the lasting way of the world.

Actually, there are people just like that in God's world, too. They learn of God in the bible, then extract verses to use as a base for their intellectual gymnastics, and come up with strange ideas of what the bible says. Bible reading takes a humble listening mind.

Don't ever let even people with a genius score overwhelm you. That mind goes into the grave, the spiritual mind lives eternally.

Also, fear no science. For it only reveals God's majesty. If your teacher holds up something, such as the Higgs Bosun, marvel at God's creation. Science is part of God's creation, as is mathematics. God is the supreme genius. On earth we call a man a genius because he figured something out about God's creation, think how much greater God must be, since He is the creator.

Pretend to sleep, it distracts them from what they are saying and eventually they get bored and go back to lecturing about the REAL class topic.

OR, you could make a face like this every so often. So he kicks you out of class and you won't have to hear it anymore!

well the semester must be over or getting there soon, but Professors, worked hard to get to where they are, some could break or make your grade. The bible says to respect those in authority, and regardless what anyone says, nothing can seperate you from the Love of God. He looks at you because his spirit must feel the warmth of the light of the LOrd, and his Love, sometimes the best attitude you show, is the one of respect and silence in prayer. Public places are just what they are, and if you don't like it they will show you the door. :)

Lol I used to do physics at uni and lets just say the department was not a fan of creationism :). Needless to say after uni I became a christian so I guess evolution and quantum theory didn't deter me. I wouldn't worry :)

What are you studying?

One thing you have to learn when starting college is that the teachers are often wrong; especially in fields like biology, history, and economics. Some of the times it is because they have some sort of ideological motive and other times it is just because they don't keep up with current research and are still stuck with the information that they learned when they went through their schooling. After all, they are only human. They make mistakes and they overlook details. If something sounds wrong to you, you don't have to accept it. Just understand the concept and pass the class and then look up to see if it is accurate when you have the time.

It doesn't matter if science can explain it or not, either way, God created it and put those mechanics in place.

There's a generic one liner you can use that will likely shut up most of his science based arguement while keeping you out of long winded, fruitless, and pointless arguments.
