Bring up the bible in a group of about 10 people and by the end of the conversation there will be 2 people left. Wonder why that is ? conviction ? are they ungodly ? do they not want the gospel? oh well --- THANK U JESUS ...

IMO,when people talk about the bible they tend to look at the scriptures In a fleshly minded, law mentality type way and no one wants to hear how wrong they are and how condemned they are.

Thats just my opinion.:)

It's not the Bible that is the problem, but the people talking about it and the way in which they talk about it. Religion tends to be a topic people would rather not discuss openly because it's almost impossible to have an adult, rational, productive discussion about it.

People who are not born again are not generally truly interested in Scripture.
They would rather talk about just about anything else, once they get passed
expressing how harmful religion has been throughout the history of humanity,
and how antiquated the Bible is, as if Truth were relative and not timeless.
They are blinded by the god of this world, and yes, they are probably aware
on some level that they stand in fearful condemnation being a non-believer.

I seldom talk about the Bible or Religion IRL....... My conversation is usually about Jesus. But that runs off Christians too a lot of the time.

God has mandated us to go tell them. Some don't even care that they will pass into non-existence. I can't say I blame them in their ignorance, for they have nothing to look forward to but death from their perspective, anyways. Death to some shall be a respite from this world. They only see as the worm they are crawling around in the dirt in this sinful world, and not the butterfly they are to become in the heavenly realms promised.

Definitely! That's the enemy within them that has nothing else but negativity on their side - remember - satan's already lost the battle, it's sad those people going down with him instead of wanting to be raised up by Jesus.

It can make them feel uneasy because the longer the discussion remains on the scriptures the more likely people are going to feel conviction.. This does not mean that they run away because they are anti-christs.. For some that conviction smolders away and the discussion has planted a seed and sooner or later they will be moved to investigate the Bible and the message of God more..

But yeah a lot of people get offended and don't like having their consciences pricked..

Honestly religious talk turns me off because it has very little to do with faith. It can be a wall between truth and the real lives we live. People are not turned off by Jesus, they are turned off by people who seem to use them to accomplish an agenda. It is offensive to be treated like that. The gospel needs to be lived to be seen. The world is full of words and philosophies. We need to live such radically different lives; we need to love so lavishly that people are stopped in their tracks. We have to choose our actions rather than just reacting. An authentic life lived for God is so unusual that people will want to know what makes you so gracious, forgiving, insightful, compassionate, interesting and humble. Those are my thoughts.

We have to ask ourselves if our lives actually reflect what we say we believe.

You say people aren't turned off by Jesus? Really? Tell that to Jesus. I think He'll tell you otherwise.

To be honest the same thing happens here on CC.

Start a thread about alcohol, gays, denominations, bible version etc and it
gets many pages long.

But try to discuses a bible verse or bible principle and you might get a few
responses maybe even 10 replies. That's unless it get contentious and arguments start,
then it goes on forever. But the original concept is lost.

ive tried to start several such threads but they just quickly disappear as no one is
interested. I know others have as well.

The longest threads on CC are the argumentative ones, or a few casual chatty ones
where everyone agrees to keep them casual and chatty - like speak your mind etc.

That is so true, I have had the same experience and I know others have too.

Light has come to our world, but the world loved the darkness.

And I dunno, I mean this is a Christian forum. The title is literally "Christian Chat".

I have a hard time believing anyone whos not a Christian comes here hoping to find a site not dedicated to God where they can say anything and not expect people to correct them : p If people are coming here, who arent Christian and merely seeking fellowship, theyre probly either here to learn about the Word of God, or merely to express their opinion on why the Word of God is "evil" or "illogical" and arent really all that interested in hearing the opinions of others.

I wouldnt worry about the "bible talk" here, as all of this is implied in the forums name : p Anyone who comes here should absolutely know what to expect, we are Christians and we follow Jesus Christ : p

The bible is a book, but it is the foundation of many different faiths and groups.

The audience know the confusion around this subject and the conflicts.
So often it is simpler to walk away, in a conversation that will never be able to
meaningfully cover any of the issues.

A better idea is to talk about a single issue like Jesus or morality, or faith.
At least in the end you can leave people with a sentence that can lead to other
things.

I have often chosen the gospel of John and Jesus and why John wrote the book.
It deals with the testimony of John and his sincerity, and the power of this work.

It also quickly gets to the crux of witness, and who we are as followers of Christ.

I remember your thread on about what the bible says about women rulers, asking if anyone had anything from the bible to share on it. I remember being interested too, posting that Id like to learn more about it, but got no responses. And one member even quoted my post, said all the exact same things I did, but responded by correcting me and teaching me a lesson with the exact same thoughts I had expressed in my post, which I think was due to them not reading it through but assuming my stance because I said Id like to know what God had to say about it : p

People will generally react more to things that make them upset, I think. When I see a post about "why Christians should accept and approve of homosexuality", you can be sure Im gonna respond to it, yeah.

This is an interesting observation.

The other one I would make is it costs a lot of time to read and digest a lot of the material
here. So as most do, it is easier to skip and go with the gut response, which as you point
out is often not reading the content.

What is impressive is the lengths some go to to write reams of stuff which hardly anyone will
ever read, and repeat the same things time and time again. But I suppose if they are happy,
God bless them.

I have learnt a lot though, from people with vastly greater experience than me, and even in
opposition but can get to the facts or points of an issue, which otherwise would take too long
to find out about. lol.
