Yeah and at the University you get your titles like Dr, Prof.,....

So -- 'University' is what we call 'Grad School'? ( i.e. - "post"-graduate school -- getting another degree after you already have a degree )

I try to go by it but I'm sure when you retire it starts loosing its importance.
Actually I find that older people go by it because that is what they were taught, but those young'uns who grew up with phonics can't tell the difference and don't care to because they got trophies just for showing up.
Exactly!

And, we care because we were taught to care... ;)

Hey...........HEY........HEY!

I resemble that........ :)
Demi - do you understand this joke?

'I resemble that' is a comical mimic of 'I resent that'. It's origin is from television of long ago...

:)

I'm sorry - I should have given you the full phrase. I wrote it this way because of the way p_rehbein wrote it in his post. The full phrases are:

"I resent that remark!" is stated as "I resemble that remark!"

It comes from an "accidental word play" that makes whoever says it seem to identify with the remark ( that someone makes about them ) rather than refuting it - and thus - it makes them appear to be an 'idiot'. The joke is made when someone "self-imposes" it upon themselves.

( Something like that --- I hope this makes sense... )

It is a very old joke in the U.S.A. that goes back several decades - even before I was born, I think...

p_rehbein was "playing on the joke" - in reference to your comment:

I try to go by it but I'm sure when you retire it starts loosing its importance.
AS IF he felt insulted by your remark -- because, he is of retirement age. ( in the U.S.A. )

Of course, I am pretty sure he was not really insulted - he was just "being funny"...

( Waiting for a "yes-I-was-really-insulted" comeback now... )

:)

Spelling...spelling the right(vs rite vs write) version of a word...or spelling az in misspeling werds?

With a computer, I can see a person still using the wrong version of a word, but not misspelling a word, since computers have spell-check.

People in the UK who are in their thirties and forties went through a period where grammar was not taught in school.
What was behind that crazy nonsense idea?
Then there's that auto fill in thing... Some of the word programs get a little weird placing words where I thought I typed something else... lol

That's a great attitude and effort. What did you study at university?
Thank you Laura-charlotte, I studied pharmacology many years ago. I spent a number of years working in a lab. I have returned to university and I am training to become a Physician Associate. The course is tough but God opened up the opportunity to retrain. I have been blessed with good friends who are very supportive and who are willing to proof read my work.

Grammar and spelling really don't matter at all.... UNLESS you indend to occassionally communicate with other human beings.

Bru / bro. actually that's not hard to pronounce I was practising the German word ' big' that's so difficult to pronounce I couldn't get the exact sound its like not gros its between that pronunciation and gous kinda like the english word gauze but it's neither. The word big has one of those special inflections - I think that's what you call it .#tricky#
